Unless you plan to use them only on total/st/Verizon/tf and other Verizon mnvos these are pretty much useless as they need 12 months of paid service for getting unlocked. And these are entry level devices with not much value after a year. YMMV
not to mention, the dreaded id verification is another red flag

No different than any other plan. FP deals for MetroPCS right now, People just pay for the month, stick them in a drawer for year. unlock, use them or sell them.
Yes that works for metro but not Verizon and mnvos any more. Starting ~Jan 2026 Verizon and all mnvos have updated the unlock policy to have a mandatory 12 month paid service required
With metro after initial activation, no additional payments/service is needed and the device will still unlock after a year from activation.

OK, I see what you mean. I stand corrected.
No worries 🙂
However, I would also add that in some scenarios st/total/tf/Verizon deals still make sense ... For example buying iphones at a discounted price and trade in - iphone16e was under $200 at one time when bought from st and had an apple trade in value of $310 which is approx $110 in benefits if it suited the use case. Etc
Stay away from anything Verizon, I was affected by hurricane Isaiah last week and Verizon network was completely out for two days without even emergency calls.
I had to get a Lyca mobile number for a fraction of what I am paying for my Verizon postpaid plan and it was activated in a minute with eSim and worked like a charm.
Verizon didn't even apologize or anything, I see on FB some people with Straight Talk and Total Wireless still complaining about their service which shows you the priority of the customers of these brands on Verizon's unreliable service list

Lyca would give u a very hard time when you want to port out. Get out of it asap

Just get a throwaway number from portanumber.com to get the device, and you won't get stuck with total/st/Verizon/tf and other Verizon mnvos using your main number. That is what I did!
