Now that Uber & DD are back at Costco, these are normal prices in line with other gift cards. A deal on these now from costco would be like additional $5 off. I hope we can see something like that again in the near future.
Costco's discounted Uber gift cards are mainly valued as a cheaper way to fund rides, restaurant pickups, and Uber One. The cards can also be used to offset an annual Uber One membership, and the savings stack with restaurant promos or other cash back offers. The main friction is checkout and redemption, with orders sometimes canceled, a 14 day purchase limit, and the full charge needing to be covered by the gift card balance. Some also note that Uber pricing and fees can vary by account, so the value depends on how you use it.
Travelers who mainly use rides and restaurant pickups, because the credit works well for airport trips and occasional food orders.
The cards can be used for rides, restaurant pickups, and Uber One-related purchases. One workaround is to pay the ride with a credit card first, then switch the completed trip to the gift card in ride history; the full charge must be covered by gift card balance, so split payments are not allowed.
Prices and fees can vary by account, even for the same ride or order. Some accounts with Uber One or gift card balance can see higher prices, while other accounts see lower service fees or nearly identical ride prices.
The purchase limit is 1 order every 14 days, down to the minute. Some stores also cap physical card purchases at 2 per day, with the daily limit resetting the next day.
Costco can be fussy about matching the name, address, and email across the credit card, Costco account, and delivery instructions. Using a virtual card in Google Wallet reportedly helped where a normal business card kept getting canceled.
In the Uber app, search for Costco and use the Costco membership banner to link your account. After linking, you can buy the discounted membership with your Costco membership number, and the annual Uber One price can drop to about $40 when paired with the discounted gift cards.
Only problem is the full amount has to be covered by the GC, no split payment when changing payment method. So you still end up with GC credit.

Still cheaper. I took two Ubers tonight. $90 total. Buying $100 to cover everything then have an extra $10 in credit left over, for $80
My comment wasn't regarding whether it's cheaper to use gift card, it was for those who feel they get charged higher rates if they have a gift card balance.
So how long does it take to send em? I bought them like 17hours ago and still nothing. Even tried putting my info in that digital portal portal site and nothing.
Edit: got cancelled. Never ordered them before, that's lame
Tried again, cancelled, tried again cancelled. What garbage.

re: canceled orders - Experienced this a few weeks ago, was able to fix it by using the "virtual card" feature of my google wallet. I'm not sure what the difference was, but ordering with my normal (business) card on Costco.com got cancelled multiple times...the virtual one worked the 1st time, so I'm continuing to use that
Honestly, Uber eats is a pain in the butt to deal with I cancelled a 6 year relationship with them because they wouldn't offer 10 dollar voucher after a driver was 3 hours late and all the other restaurants were closed
Yes for Uber rides and if you couple that with the AMEX Platinum card benefit $15/month and free Uber One it is even worse. The kickback from One makes it a bit more tolerable. I don't use Uber Eats any more because the food and/or driver almost always has an issue and Uber no longer provides refunds. Earlier this year I had to dispute a large Uber Eats charge with AMEX due to driver being continuously changed out (like 5 drivers!) delaying the order by an hour or so. Uber absolutely did not care. AMEX wrote it off by refunding me during the dispute process on their website and immediately closed the case. I've never used Uber Eats since.
Interesting. I've had them refund an order I placed with Uber Eats giftcard. They'll have a last possible time displayed that you need to take a screenshot of, as it'll keep getting pushed back. If it goes past that time, they will let you cancel and get a refund.

I just keep it to a.) Uber Black rides from the Airport (since those go all the way to the terminal, useful for International flights when you don't want to lug multiple suitcases to a ride share station or onto a shuttle), normal rides every once in a while, take-out orders (just taking advantage of the uber one membership perks) and the OCCASIONAL delivery order (usually a hotel order while traveling)
It does sound like depending on it for deliveries is a crapshoot, so I'm happy to dip out and grab it myself (or just use it for rides)
At a $80 up front cost (and $48 of that going towards an Uber One membership), I don't see this as much of a risk
