The "Free Parts and Service for Life" is a scam. The tools WILL break, and when you drop them off at Home Depot to get them repaired, they will keep them for 3 months, then contact you and tell you that the repair isnt covered by warranty. Then you will have to pay for the repair (which costs more than the tool is worth) to get your tool, charger, and batteries back. This happened to me twice in a year with light use on the tools, then I stopped using them.

Not true at all. If you've properly registered your tools, the warranty/replacement process is really easy by signing into your account on the Ridgid website and printing out a pre-paid shipping label to send the broken tool to them. They then either fix yours and return it or send you a new one.

Home Depot hasn't accepted Ridgid warranty items for many many years.
