3 modes/zoomable - kinda does everything but when its necessary it doesn't perform or under performs. Also, 4 AAs is wild. These kinds of flashlights are good for kids or for a quick glamping trip.
Just get a sofirn or something that lasts for $10 more

Don't agree at all. Why do you think the $10 more stuff will last? And, why is using 4 AA batteries is wild?

Simple: These are toys.
For $10 more you get an actual flashlight designed to last multiple years of everyday use and its rechargeable so no need to purchase AAs.
2 AA's is typical, 4 is wasteful. The cartridge design also also allows for lots of leakage leading to less actual use during storage. If you plan on using this for years the cost for the batteries would be more than $10
Compared to a flashlight that uses a 21700 battery (similar size) with higher brightness and battery life usage. Also, did I mention the rechargeability option? Batteries cost money. Even if you have or buy rechargeable AAs that might put the cost of the flashlight + batteries at or more than $20 anyways. Those Sofirns are typically USB-C and can be recharged via any source out there (powerbank, some phones, cars, etc.)
The only non-lion powered flashlight i own is a maglite 4D cell and thats bc those last multiple years in my car and doubles as a tool if needed

I took delivery of the two flashlights I ordered last week this afternoon, and I now have firsthand experience with them. The built quality is good, acceptable. It passed my visual inspection. I popped in four freshly charged NiMH AA batteries in one. The light is very strong on the high setting. I think it has 600 lumens. I'll cross check that with a known 600 lumen flashlight. What I don't like is the light has a halo. But I'll get used to.
I bought two of them. The second one is for spare and parts. You can bet I don't store batteries inside the tube. Sure, a 21700 battery powered flashlight is better; but, I don't want to spend $130 for one just yet. For $7.79 each, I don't have much to complain. The halo is just the way it is.
The 4 AA batteries doubled voltage of 2 AA. They push the light a lot more brighter. I use 4 AA NiMH rechargeable batteries. They don't leak. Or shall I say "much less prone to leaking"? They perfectly answered your recharge question.
Even I did spend $130 on a nice 21700 powered flashlight, I would still get these at $7.79 each. I don't mind to have some backup to the backup.

There are very, very nice 21700 flashlights out there for a small fraction of this mythical $130 price point. I'll give you one example: my Convoy S21E, which cost me $27 shipped including the battery, and I got to customize the body color, emitter, color temp, driver type, and the exact battery of my choice.

It's cheaper to buy 21700 with flashlights than it is to buy batteries when they're on sale at times. It's absolutely crazy but I do it all the time whenever its on sale bc its cheaper than buying 21700 individually - and you know they'll fit the flashlight since the standards are all farked up for 18650s but not as bad on 21700 but still some don't fit.
There's a wurkkos wk03 with a sst40 LED on slickdeals for $10 on their website for 1800 lumens with a 18650 battery.
I'm not talking about those $130 overpriced bs. You get 90% of the build for $30-40. If it breaks, you can buy 2 more and it's still cheaper than that.

Why buy this flashlight at $10? Check out the above link. The same flashlight is for $7.79. The code still works. I verified a minute ago.

For replacement 21700s, try liionwholesale, and 18650batterystore.
