Roll 'fraid so.

I was really bummed about it at first, but honestly - she's been gone for so long that this is almost a blessing. She was trapped in that broken body and brain for a long time. I'm not altogether sure she didn't launch herself out of her chair on purpose. Frown

Slightly amusing note: My dad picked up her ashes from the funeral home there in Guatemala and is completely freaked about having them in the house. When they bring her to the states he wants to take them to the funeral home that's 2 hrs from my house.... and 2 hrs from the church where the funeral will be. I convinced him that there is no chain of custody for people dust and we'd just need to take her with us to church that day. laugh out loud He's not amused. DH says we can't leave her on the mantle while we wait for the funeral, she'll have to get locked in the study/ "Forbidden Room of Mystery" so the boys don't play in the dust. Shocking

I've heard that the "dust" is actually quite heavy...or heavier then you would think it should weigh...so pls confirm or deny that myth (not like M5 team is going do that one...lol)

Sure thing. She was maybe 90 lbs soaking wet, so I'll work up a ratio for you. laugh out loud

M5 could use a human analog for it. Scratchchin You should suggest it!

My great uncle's ashes were at my Grandma's for the longest time. I'd say about 10lbs. And the container they are in is sealed. Don't know if that is standard or not but Gram said you could get it open to scatter the ashes if you wanted but it want something you could accidentally spill like in the movies/tv.

My mom's estranged uncle died a few years ago. His whacked out sister wouldn't deal with the funeral arrangements and he had no $ so my mom had to. They had him creamated in Wyoming and sent to my mother. He was mailed in the mail. Facepalm Anyway, it creeped me the hell out that she had him on the DINING ROOM TABLE so she eventually moved him to the sunroom, still in the package, waiting for my aunt to finally come up from GA. My mom and my aunt were going to take him to my great grandmother's grave and spread his ashes there. Anyhow, his ashes were heavier than I thought they would be. I only say that because I picked up the package before I knew what it was. I don't know how much of that was package though. I will have nightmares thinking of that again.

I get way less grossed out thinking about a box of ashes than I do a well-preserved body slowly rotting in a sealed casket. vomit So nasty. I'm glad I finally got my parents on the cremation bandwagon. My Granny would be mortified to know we'd burned her up, but she doesn't get a vote at this point.
