This 14 inch MacBook Pro pairs the M5 chip, 16GB of memory, and 1TB of storage with a steep Costco price cut, free shipping, and Costco return and warranty coverage. The Pro screen, ports, and fan cooling make it appealing for heavier multitasking, development, and creative work, while the 1TB drive adds extra headroom. The main concern is 16GB RAM, which can feel tight for large browser sessions, Office and Teams, or more demanding AI and development workloads. A solid value if your workload fits the memory ceiling.
Common Questions (4)
Yes for office work, web browsing, light Python, photo editing, and light video editing under 1080p. It can feel tight with lots of browser tabs, Spotify, WhatsApp, or heavier multitasking, so users who already feel RAM-limited may want 24GB for more headroom.
Costco's price is $1,349.99 versus Apple's $1,999, and the M6 14-inch MacBook Pro with 1TB is also listed at $1,999. A 13-inch MacBook Air with M5 and 1TB was cited at $1,600, making this Pro a notably cheaper 1TB option.
The clearance price can be seen online, but purchase may need to be completed in-store. Costco also lists free shipping on the item, and stock can vary by warehouse.
If stock holds, a deeper clearance may happen later. The current price is already being treated as a clearance tied to the newly launched M6 model, so waiting risks missing inventory.

Looking to get a new Macbook but not sure which one I need (Macbook Pro w/ 16GB ram or would having Macbook Air w/ 24GB ram be better, etc).

Do you value the nicer screen/ports of the Pro? The Air is fanless if you prefer that and aren't doing heavy calculations/encoding etc.... If you are doing those then the fan is nice to have so it doesn't throttle.

For comparison, the 13" MacBook Air with an M5 processor and 1TB storage upgrade currently retails for $1600; the 14" MacBook Pro with the newly released M6 processor (comes with 1TB storage) retails for $2000.

What do you do? Data analytics, app design, local LLMs, video encoding, multiple huge excel documents? If none of those then 16 GB would likely serve you well for the next 4+ years. I do the above less LLMs on my 16 GB M2 Pro MacBook Pro without much issue on the RAM side (huge data sets I'm throwing on a server anyways)....

I'm a Software Engineer so sometimes regular development + I also do mobile app development (Xcode, Android Studio) while also utilizing different AI tools. I would definitely want to be able to run both Xcode w/ IOS Simulator + Android Studio w/ Android Emulator + other things without it lagging, being choppy, or having issues.
Most of the dev work I've done the past several months were work-related so it was done on my work 16 inch Macbook Pro which is a pretty high spec one from 2 years ago.
