Ooma Telo Air 2 is a simple Wi Fi home phone replacement that works well for keeping a traditional landline alive, especially for households that want clear voice quality and app access. The service is described as reliable over the long term, with several reports of years of steady use, voicemail notifications on a phone, and outgoing calls working even from a cabin. The main tradeoff is that it depends on Wi Fi and has no battery, so it will not help during an internet outage, and it does not include SMS. Monthly costs still run about $6 to $9 in taxes and fees, with premium plans costing more.
Long-term use can deliver reliable home telephone service with consistent connectivity on home internet.
The monthly cost structure can be predictable when bundled under Premier, with taxes and fees included in the stated total.
The service can work over Wi‑Fi without a battery, which supports flexible home or cabin calling.
The device can replace an older Wi‑Fi Telo that required frequent power-cycling, and the newer unit may run flawlessly after setup.
The overall monthly expense can be higher than expected because premium plans may add fees beyond the base service charge.
The service relies on Wi‑Fi availability and can lack features like SMS support.
The device can randomly fail to connect, which can interrupt the ability to place or receive calls.
The service can still route calls to Ooma voicemail even when the phone line does not ring, which may be inconvenient for important calls.

Edit: Forgot to mention, although not relevant for this deal, AmEx has for some cardholders one of their offers for Spend $70, get $50 statement credit when purchased through the Ooma site directly.

That said, for elderly folks or people with hearing issues, the voice quality is largely better than via cell phones, at least that's what my parents say. If they have to make an important call with a doc or anything else really important, they will ditch the phone/FaceTime/WhatsApp and use their "VoIP Landline", even though technically it goes all through same the Internet. So, don't discard the use case just because you are young and grew up with smartphone.
I am! I went from grandfathered Ooma hub to a grandfathered tello. going on close to 17 years with ooma thus far.

I have a few hubs still operational around the world, and I have a telo grandfathered under lifetime premiere with no charges and fees. I'm an ooma customer for life lol.
The amex offer is good, I'm thinking about picking up some hd3 handsets or another bundle from ooma to have a spare for myself or friends / family.
