That said, for elderly folks or people with hearing issues, the voice quality is largely better than via cell phones, at least that's what my parents say. If they have to make an important call with a doc or anything else really important, they will ditch the phone/FaceTime/WhatsApp and use their "VoIP Landline", even though technically it goes all through same the Internet. So, don't discard the use case just because you are young and grew up with smartphone.

Ooma Telo Air 2 is a simple home phone replacement that works well as a backup or traditional landline for multiple handsets. The Wi Fi based setup can be handy for cabins or homes where cell phones are not enough, and the app, voicemail, and caller ID features add convenience. Long term reports point to clear calls and years of reliable service, with some systems still running after well over a decade. The main tradeoff is ongoing taxes and fees, plus occasional connection problems or rising monthly costs. It fits best when you want a familiar house phone without a full landline bill.
The service can work with existing multi-handset cordless setups for a traditional landline replacement use case.
The Telo Air 2 can deliver clear outgoing calls and supports mobile app use for managing service.
Long-term use can be practical, since some setups reportedly run for many years with consistent reliability.
The system can provide voicemail notifications and playback through the device or the Ooma app even when the message light fails.
The monthly cost can rise over time, and fee increases have led some users to switch away.
The service relies on Wi-Fi availability and can lack features like SMS, which may limit everyday flexibility.
The device can randomly fail to connect, which can interrupt call availability.
Porting a number into Ooma can cost about $40, which adds an upfront expense for landline number transfers.

I am! I went from grandfathered Ooma hub to a grandfathered tello. going on close to 17 years with ooma thus far.

I have a few hubs still operational around the world, and I have a telo grandfathered under lifetime premiere with no charges and fees. I'm an ooma customer for life lol.
The amex offer is good, I'm thinking about picking up some hd3 handsets or another bundle from ooma to have a spare for myself or friends / family.
