I look bigger with full pads on. I stopped wearing shoulder pads about a year and a half ago. The hits I take in beer league aren't hard enough to require shoulder pads, so I stopped wearing them for more freedom of motion. Not that I'm big anyway, only 5'8", 150.

And yeah.. only beer league Sadwalk My dreams of going pro ended long, long ago.

I am 35 and I still play in a 30 and over baseball league. Still think I can go pro too. laugh out loud

laugh out loud All about having fun these days and getting to skate still. I enjoy getting together with the guys, having some beers, skating a bit, and just having fun. I keep meaning to get into a softball or baseball league too. I miss playing baseball a lot.

Too many guys take beer leagues too seriously. My team played tonight and lost 9-4. The other team was still trying to score. Most beer league players know when the score gets like that to back off a bit.

Like I said, I'd still take Landers on my team. He's probably got more skill than just about everyone I play hockey with. laugh out loud

laugh out loud I play on a mixed league team with AA-D players. I fit in around high B, low A. We were up 6-2 and one of our guys scored a breakaway goal with 2.3 seconds in the game last week. The rest of us gave him a ton of crap about it after the game, just unnecessary.

Be glad to skate with ya anytime, man. Again was cool to meet when you were in Houston. Hopefully we can grab a beer again soon.

Beer league hockey FTMFW! As you get older guys tend to take it a lot less seriously (which makes it more fun for old farts.)

You are a brave guy Landers (I sadly graduated from a shield to a cage 5 years ago.)

Last week received a roughing penalty because some shield dude tripped on an ice snake and cut his chin to the point of dripping blood (and I didn't touch the player too much.) Bah!

If I have to go back to Houston for any reason I'm taking my gear with me!

I wear a cage only because I have about 10k worth of orthodontic work in my mouth, and my parents wouldn't be too happy if anything happened to me. Well, that and I'd like to protect my face somewhat. laugh out loud

I got my first penalty ever tonight. I was trying to do a lift check and missed the stick and got the guy in the shoulder. The ref told me he knew what I was trying to do, but since I missed he had to call it. So I got to spend my first two minutes in the box. laugh out loud

I haven't had an incident yet that's made me switch to a cage. I have a couple buddies that have, and they both hate it. I only wore a cage in high school. Maybe something will make me switch eventually, but I like the half shield. Chicks dig scars, right? laugh out loud

Sounds like your refs are as bad as mine. There's one that always has it out for me. He gave me a double minor for a cross check earlier this week and threatened 10 minutes for my muttering "utter bullshit" under my breath. I think he's still pissed from a couple years ago when he made a crappy offside call and as he was skating over to pick up the puck I shot it back deep into the offensive zone. heh.

I'm not usually one to take many penalties, but I've kinda bumped up my physicality this year and I'm actually leading my team in PIM.
