Oh My..Is that how much daycare is these days? Now I know why I opted to stay home with mine. lol
Congrats on your new found raise and time! I cried when mine went to school, but now they are teenagers/adult and although I love it when they are home during school breaks, I am also glad when school starts. Have been deciding if it is time to find a job now that they no longer 'need' me as much. But would have to drive 45mi. to the next town over just to find work. With gas prices, I am just not sure it would be worthwhile?? Or maybe that is just my excuse now. Wink I always said I would work again when they were old enough to drive themselves. But it just doesn't seem that easy to do now, after all these years.
I tell my DH that I deserve some 'me' time now for awhile...Is that selfish? I hope not cause I am enjoying it so far. LOL
Absolutely NOT selfish!! shake head We as SAHMs have far more than full-time jobs, and it can get very exhausting. I'm sure you will get bored at some point and want something meaningful to do, but I say take time now for yourself and do things you always wanted to do but never could before!

I just got home from HT and T, and I am pooped. Did great at both places, so that's good. I am literally counting the days ... well, I would count the days if I knew exactly what date hubby's review is going to be ... but anyway, I am just sitting on the edge of my seat until his review happens and we find out what type of raise he's going to get. I am so ready to be done with this craziness!!!

I do get a break on the morning school run tomorrow. I am babysitting a little one whose mommy teaches elementary Spanish and needs a babysitter until lunchtime. Just a one-time thing, and this little one loves to play with my youngest, so it will be a pretty easy time of it.

TM4D, glad to hear your little one loved her first day! If we could have swung the tuition last year, I know Lillian would have had such a blast in preschool. Some kids just need that earlier than the standard kindergarten. It sounds, from all you've posted, that you have moved to a great place for your family. So happy for you guys!!!

Where have GT and bunnies been hiding?!?

Dh's coworker had a baby in July, just came back to work this week, and her daycare is about $200 per week for an infant. EEK! I used to get upset about paying $90 per week, 15 years ago, when my oldest was an infant in full time care at the base daycare.

good morning. First day of school for my DDs. youngest started Kindergarten this morning. She was very excited to get on the bus this morning. I didn't even cry. I'm so glad that they have started school. It would take me an hour drive to drop them off at the babysitters and then another hour to pick them up. That is TWO hours of my life back. Plus I no longer have to pay the babysitter. That is $225 a week that I get to keep. It's like the best raise I have ever received :
Congrats on the raise woot I am sure you appreciate the extra money!

225 was just for an in-home babysitter for 2 kids. If I had to send them to daycare it would have been $337 per week EEK! I would have love to been a stay at home mom. But I was always the breadwinner when I was married and now that I'm not married I have to save every penny I can get.
Quote from Photos101 :
OMG..I know that it all depends on where you live as to the price of daycare but that is expensive. AND I used to be a state Daycare provider years ago, so this should really not be such a shock. I know how hard it is to care for little ones.
I was also a single mom so I do appreciate that aspect of having to save money. I guess that is why, when I got married to my DH, I made it a point to discuss our options. lol In other words, I gave him an advance notice as to wanting to be a stay at home mom with them. Then I opened a business with my parents and worked a schedule that let me be there to take/pick them up from school and be off on their days off. It worked out great. Then we closed our business and I have been at home with them ever since.

I really feel for those that have to pay daycare, it is a huge expense. My sister and aunt both have state licensed daycares and I am almost positive that the going rate around here is nowhere near that.
I am so excited for you!! Such a huge financial weight off your shoulders!
Wow, I am way out of the loop.. I had no idea daycare had gone up that much. Mine only went a few hours a week to the hospital day care so I could do some certifications, classes, etc.. and even the drop off rate wasn't too bad. Thankfully, they never had to go too much..
I can't even imagine $337 a week EEK! That is a house mortgage payment! It would hardly benefit me to work if I had to pay that much! I feel sorry for those who have to pay those kind of fees hug

In the center I worked in before SAHM-hood it was $150+/wk. for an infant (went down and they got older) and that was considered a good deal for the quality of care for our area OMG

Well, dd's 1st day of preschool went really well. She didn't even want to say goodbye to us when we dropped her off nor did she notice me when I came to pick her up laugh out loud Well. She enjoyed herself and can't wait to go back tomorrow.
Glad things went good on her first day.. Is she going everyday or just a few days a week?

slow, what happened sweetie? i am so sorry - you don't have to talk about it if you don't want. sending love and hugs and prayers your way.
i got triggered watching an internet friend's dd singing and playing the guitar on youtube. last yr a college friend who'd lived in the same dorms committed suicide. his daughter also plays the guitar and sings and has videos on youtube so i of course i then went to go see what she'd been up to. she has a very breathy, airy, sweet voice, so then i started thinking about my friend and i just started really crying over the sadness of it all. his situation was rather tragic in that it might have been avoided if he'd gotten proper diagnosis and treatment for his mental illness. we'd just reconnected the yr b4 and now he's gone. i also think he kinda knew or made plans. when we reconnected, i picked up discount season passes to the amusement park for him and he insisted on driving 60-70 miles one way to pick them up and he brought his kids w/ him. then i found out he also made a trip out to see another college friend who lives nearby around the same time. i have my suspicions about why he insisted on driving so far when i could have easily fed-exed the tickets to him.

this yr his daughter will be a freshman at the same university we attended. internet friend's dd is an aspiring singer who wants to major in it in college so when i watched her video, one thought led to another and the sadness was just overwhelming. in the dorms he would pull out his guitar and try to sing this one song. he'd sing *lady* and we'd always start laughing and he'd never finish the song (my sweet lady by john denver). so now i always cry. i'm tearing up again so i will stop. the next day was totally blown b/c i had a huge headache from crying.

i got some stuff done which is better than the none that got done on labor day and the day b4. i just have to keep plugging away.

alien from another planet story- so last wed nite i changed the seats, springs, o-rings, cam and packing on the kitchen faucet. on thurs the plumber changed the hot water heater. on friday i hear, *something must be wrong. there is no hot water.* dh is washing dishes and he has the handle straight back and blasting as usual. so i move the handle to the left and lo and behold, Hot Water! sigh!

I have a friend with twin boys and a dd who's my dd's age (her boys and girl are only 1 yr. apart) and when she told me how much they paid in childcare costs my jaw about hit the floor. I guess I just never thought about the whole # because I'd never been confronted with the situation but wow. I mean, it was little enough to justify a whole separate salary I suppose, but if half or more of my whole salary was going to childcare I think I'd rather just be home with 'em if I could. I know there's more factors than that too though.

Thanks Flug!! Yeah she is just such a social kid.....she is loving having little friends and her teacher seems so nice and everything - most everyone is just really nice here Smilie There is no way I'd have sent her to the public school back where we used to live. It was by no means large but it was waaaaay too big for me. Love being somewhere that has these small programs.

Oh, and she went with her little L.L. Bean backpack that I ordered when you posted that deal awhile back (I think it was you laugh out loud) I really got it thinking she could play with it or that it'd make a good one to stuff all her normal everyday stuff in but it sure came in handy!

M-Th 8:15-11:00 It is a little early to get up than I'm used to but not much. Gets me up and gets me goin' Smilie If dh ends up with one of the later schedules I got to thinking he'd be home when she gets home from school (and could even pick her up if I was out running errands or something) and would have time with her for a good couple hrs. each day so this may not be too bad.

Yep, it was me who posted that deal. My daughter LOVES hers - I almost wish I'd ordered one for my youngest, too!

I do love summers for sleeping in, but I have come to appreciate the earlier start time to my day - it helps me get up and get going MUCH faster. laugh out loud Once I drop the kids off at school, I'm already dressed and ready for the day, and its only 8:30!

I am debating whether or not to bring these two little munchkins out somewhere or not. They are both well-behaved, just not sure I want to maneuver two 2-yr-olds in the rain...

Off to think about it while I drink my coffee. laugh out loud

all this child care reminds me of a friend who was sending hers so she could still work. we figured it out she was losing 2.50 an hour from working and paying for child care. Which is why I am a stay at home mom lol.

good morning.

so it rained all day yesterday, sometimes fairly hard and the sump pump pit was bone dry. however, it's supposed to rain or chance of rain every day for the next 7 days except sunday. like we need more rain, not!

flug- your weather should be fairly similar to mine so if you have something that needs to get done, may as well bite the bullet and go out. i think the rain is supposed to be on and off unlike yesterday where i kept procrastinating when it started raining harder. maybe you could dodge the showers.

so last nite i ran out to target to buy a couple gallons of vinegar for cleaning and maybe get some free/cheap stuff since i was gonna have some oop. i'd checked online and the target brand was showing 2.39 so even if my target was more expensive than that, how much more could it be? i can pay a little extra until it's time to go to the supermarket where the store brand is 1.77 to 1.99.

first of all, they didn't have any which is not uncommon. many times they won't restock what i want for 3-4 wks sometimes. second, the tag said 3.39!!! i even checked the price on the scanners.

went to SNS which is the closest but usually .50 more for just about everything than the supermarket i usually go to. 2.69 so i bought 1 gallon so i could keep cleaning.

just checked shoprite online and shoprite vinegar should be 1.77 this wk. it usually is, but sometimes it will go up to 1.8x or 1.99. the one time it recently did that i bought another brand, farm flavor, which is usually 1.89. i'll buy heinz for eating, but not for cleaning and laundry.

why-o-why is my target so expensive??? that is almost double the price! and it's not a super, so i have to go the the supermarket anyway. makes getting freebies and cheapies very difficult cuz i'm not saving any money if i'm grossly overpaying for the other stuff. and i almost always don't need the freebies and cheapies, just nice to have or give away.

Okay, either I didn't type what I meant, or you guys have some mighty large mortgage payments EEK! I was referring to the 337 a week being like a house payment.. thinking 337 a week would be over $1300 a month..
Then you guys said you pay 4X that much OMG you must either have a much nicer house than mine laugh out loud (which could very easily be the case), or live where the cost of living is much higher if you are paying over 4000 a month Faint Either way, I can't even fathom paying over $1300/month for childcare..

I do, however wish my house payment was only 337.00 a month.. wouldn't that be lovely Smilie But, not gonna happen..especially when you have a family of 6!

Speaking of money.. The AC man came out and fixed our air this morning.. I am very thankful that he didn't have to replace the unit, or something really expensive.. It still cost us 150.00 for parts and labor, but that wasn't too bad.. DH was worried because we have 2 vacations coming up and we had to pay for an alignment on the van this weekend, plus 2 new tires.. He said it always seems like things break down or need repair when you are trying to save for vacations or Christmas!
And the nicest thing is that it was so cool yesterday and today that we were totally comfortable with no AC going.. as a matter of fact, it is fixed, but still turned off today!

Yeah Flug I agree....yesterday we weren't home much - Tues. is definitely becoming our run, run, run day I think because I had to change dd's gymnastics class to an afternoon one because of the school schedule if she wanted to keep doing it (and she did) and then I figure if I am alllllll the way over where that is I should definitely do some errands while I am out anyway. Plus another couple of unexpected errands....we were just gone so much of the day that I didn't get a feel for it. DD's school is about a 1/2 mi. away so we just walk her there as long as it's nice and then today dh and I walked the "circle" another time around for extra exercise (we live on this street that's just one big circle) and got home and got some stuff done before he left for work + I got stuff done after he left. OMG And I still have an hour until I pick her up! Smilie More than I would accomplish in a whole day with her here all day.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna run a few errands, and one tiny little grocery store run. Giant has Better Oats BOGO, plus there are .55/1 IPs, so makes it very cheap for yummy oatmeal. I figure it won't be too much hassle to do that. And the little girl I'm babysitting has a mommy who loves coupons almost as much as I do, so she is very much used to the whole shopping scenario. laugh out loud

And isn't this rain something else? I'm happy for rain on the one hand, but several days straight is quite enough, I should think! I'm hoping the skies stay clear enough Saturday morning - I'm doing a sale at my sisters' house and would love some mostly dry weather.

And our monthly rent just went up to $1500...for a dinky little house. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) Looking forward to moving to a hopefully bigger place and our monthly payment might even go down.

Hi creatures.

Rainy and grey and dark here. Second day in a row. Been pouring off and on. Talk about a crashing end to summer.

I'm feeling too lazy to multi quote and i'm playing message catch up, so suffer along with me, please. laugh out loud

jteef, thank you for the homeostasis and watsu info. Blowkiss i will read up on it and be armed with info when i go to see the neurologist on friday. right now they don't think it's muscular. they think it's a neurological thing caused by likely nerve damage during the accident. fun times.

ST... hugs and more hugs your way, hon. so sorry for your loss. i pray your friend is in a better place, finally at peace from all that troubled him/haunted him. and i pray for his family. i always think mental illness must be such a lonely experience - when you're physically ill or hurt etc, atleast people can see and some of them might commiserate. but with mental illness it's all within you. and you can't even count on your own mind to make sense of the world around you. that must be so isolating.

ST, your faucet story cracked me up.

so you know how it's raining there and here... i'm walking out of PT yesterday, in pouring rain, with crutches, and guy says to me "this is really bad weather to be using crutches in. i don't think you should be walking around in crutches in this weather" ummm, okay. so then he goes on to tell me how all the metal grates, manhole covers etc get extra slippery and do i know that? yes said i, i walked in this rain with crutches for 50 mins today already. he looked and me and said "as i said, you really should not be walking around in this weather"

umm, okay then sir. what is it about people that they feel the need to say something or the other to you if you're on crutches/with a walker/wheelchair/boot? don't they realize that the people having to use those devices are just as intelligent as those not using them, and hyperaware of the discomfort/dangers/inconvenience they face? shake head

L2B... it is indeed a cost of living thing. as mortgages go, 1300/month wouldn't even get you a tiny studio apartment mortgage around here. not even a basement studio with no kitchen. not even a basement room with an attached bathroom. nada. i'm always amazed at areas of the country where entire homes are about 100k, cos my neck of the woods a "cozy" (translated: tiny) studio would be in the 300k-350k range. Facepalm
