Yawn yep, still up. My brother called about 3 pm as I taking mandatory Army training and woke me up (kidding). If that doesn't put you to sleep, nothing will. No sound, just read 200 slides and then have a test at the end. It was on Sexual Harrassment, so I should be an expert now on what to do and what not to do.

I'm gonna push to not go to bed until 10. Maybe I can get my body back on a decent schedule.

I ventured into a new (to me) grocery store. Called Lucky's, but the ads look just like the Piggly Wiggly (Shop My Pig dot com) ad. The Nabisco Saltines were over a dollar cheaper than Publix, bananas for 50¢/lb, Grands Frozen biscuits were over a dollar cheaper than Publix, a box of Jiffy Corn Bread mix and some $1.79 ground beef. I've got chili on the brain, so cornbread sounded good (yeah, I know it's not REAL cornbread...too sweet, but it will do in a pinch).

My local Mom & Pop has 99¢/lb Skinless/Boneless Chicken Breast tomorrow (Super Saturday!). Hoping to grab several pkgs at that price. I can't even get good hot dogs for that price.

The reds have great health benefits but a lot of them tend to be dry and hard to drink if you are a fan of sweet drinks. A wine I like is Apothic Red. It's a red wine but it has hints of chocolate and vanilla. Quite enjoyable. Smilie

good luck! a wine tasting is a great idea. Wink
I've never tried a Moscato, but I want to.

Tomorrow is our big Pirate & Princess party for the kid's birthday. I'm excited, but mostly for it to be over. Ugh. So much work.

hi kay! did you get the toy clearance list i emailed you yesterday? just checking.

you may want to start w/ fruit-flavored wines, white zinfandel (that's pink) or beaujolais nouveau. i'm sure there are many people way more knowledgeable than me who could suggest some brands. i also suggest going to wine tastings. these days lots of liquor stores have wine tastings on the wknds. you don't have to go to the vineyard anymore. in my area, many of the stores will post outside or in the window when they will hold the next one.
I did sent reply before venturing into TCC.. Did you receive that???
I had mascato wine and tasted about 4 oz, and DH was asking, how i was feeling..grrr, for godsake, I only had very little and he thinks i am already drunkRoll Eyes (Sarcastic)
We ran out of milk, so i was trying to get out, and he has been cautioning all along drive carefully and while i shopped for one hr, he called me atleast 10 times :sigh:Embarrassment

kay, thank you SO MUCH for the sparkling water qs! we guzzle through several PS sparkling water bottles everyday! :bo unce:

wine... i personally think finding a vineyard that makes fruit wines and going for a tour will be great. we did that last summer. went to a highly rated winery that grows several kinds of fruits - peaches, plums, apricots, apples, grapes etc and then makes fruit wines. they showed us their whole process and we got to taste 8 different wines.
and then shop in their store, where you got a discount for buying. we brought home several amazing wines. some are dessert wines - rather sweet. some are drier wines. some are very full bodied. truly their wines are like a fruit cocktail in your mouth - full of amazing flavors, without being nauseatingly sweet. very nice.

those wines are also designed to be consumed soon after production unlike wines designed to be vintage wines. so they actually taste best when new, which means you get the freshest wines from the vineyard, rather than waiting for the whole distributor route with a store.
on the other hand, when you go to a store wine tasting, there's a wide variety of choices, so you are not limited to any one winery's production. and if it's a knowledgeable store and you tell them things you like to eat and drink, they can direct you to wines you may like and help you pick the right ones in a tasting.
I would live some wine sampler, but i decided to go with tootsie's choice of moscato, coz i heard about it from my co-sister's bff and thought it might work out and it did...
have to look around for winery, but not sure if we will do that with the kids..
I made goat curry and goat ribs soup today and was thinking about you...I kind of ventured into whole foods thread for a while, looks good there

yeah, this is what I purchased, I think i kind of liked it..... i might stick with it for a while... I asked DH about wine tasting, he said we could do that when we go to olive garden...
so Cheers tootsie

good morning.

animal control called bright and early right after 8am to get our address. mind you, their hours are supposedly 8.30 - 4.30 so my taxpayer dollars are hard at work. dh thinks it's b/c they have nothing to do :tee hee:. picked up the cage b4 8.30, released the ground hog somewhere else (at least that's what i hope they did cuz they were back real quick) and returned that almost $50 cage b4 9am.

another alien encounter story from yesterday-
using exact same computer the alien could not find the phone number for town animal control. since i know all the calls get routed thru a main switchboard, i know you just need to figure out the main phone number and then the extension, but first i checked the phone directory page (wasn't there). he's called animal control b4 when they told him he needed to buy a cage and trap the animal himself, so not like he's never called them. then i got the extension number from googling my town + animal control to go straight to that webpage instead of hunting around for it. then i went to the homepage and got the township phone number. alien dials the number and nobody picks up and he says there is no answering machine. i then dial the exact same number and leave a message. and they call back 1st thing this morning and it's all taken care of b4 9am.

yeah, that's why everything takes twice as long to get done in my house. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) can't even find a frickin' phone number and leave a message.
LMAOlaugh out loud I so much love your alien stories...

It's 5:00 PM...are you awake? Wake up!! This is your alien phone call...wake up!! Animal control is on their way over to drop off a ground hog or hedge hog (I can't remember which one ) :lo ok:
LMAO

Been a crappy shopping day. Could not even use 1 measly TQ on a Orange Juice at Target Cafe. Cashier said it must be something in the Cafe like a cooked meal! Give me a break.

Tried to buy something at WM and was told by cashier, after I switched lanes cause of an extremely slow cashier, "I'm fixin' to close". Left cart with her. Was in a rush and did not have time to hunt down a cashier that was willing to cashier.
hug Sorry that you had bad trip.. do you want us get there Swordfight no one mess with TCCers...

Morning everyone!

I was wondering if you SDers could help me figure out some techy things. I am trying to hook up internet service but I don't want it through the cable company and I don't want a land phone line. Do you know what the cheapest way to accomplish that? Also, I am trying to figure a way to not get cable and yet feel fulfilled when it comes to watching TV. Do you recommend netflix? What about live sports? I don't think I can get DH on board if he can't watch football.

I have DSL with the big business here that forces you into usingthem because they just take over the area and dont let any competators in. I pay $34.95 a month which isnt too much more than the $99 bundle they sucker people into. Dontknow

AT&T is advertising a special for $14.95 for DSL, with no phone needed. At the higher speeds, you would probably be able to use Netflix. I have the lowest speed, but still with a land line, and cannot stream Netflix.

I'd like to get rid of my land line too, but I'm not sure how cost effective it would be. I need to find out if all the taxes and surcharges they put on my bill for my phone would be applicable to Internet service alone. If it were just the $14.95 a month (for 6 or 12 months, then $25 to $35 after that depending on speed, I'd hop on it. Gotta check into it further.

We use Ooma [ooma.com] for phone service here. Completely free with the old Ooma box, can't remember what it is called or even if still available. The box cost me $199. Used my internet connection for phone service.

Phone/Internet/TV:

Loooooved service at our old house. It was DSL through the main phone company but no landline was required. $36.99 and that was cheap for here Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) Right as we were moving same said company was offering $15 DSL for 5 yrs!!!! Now we have to have it through the stinky Co-Op in town and just for the lowest speed plus the required phone line (because they're a CoOp they have to require it) it's nearly $65 Mad The telephone portion is less than $20 of that and the internet service is way less reliable than what we had. It makes me grumpy to even think of that bill each month. Cheapest option I know of out here and I've spent quite a bit of time looking into it.

TV: no clue really. I refuse to get cable. Neither dh or I need the entertainment that bad laugh out loud Even if we could truly afford it I just can't stomach the cost. It's even less affordable here than it was in town and I thought it was expensive in town!! DH constructed our own small antenna out of 2x4's and wire/copper/some kind of metal and it worked great in town to pick up more channels than we ever needed. Out here we are having trouble getting great reception because we are out in nowhere-land and our house is at the bottom of hills. We have tried several things but I'm still only getting 1 channel, ABC. Which is fine for now because I have waaaay too much to do on the new house so it's good that my TV-time is limited laugh out loud Hopefully we'll be able to get that figured out at some point and if not I may have to get something basic at some point....through the same stinky telephone company most likely...yuck yuck yuck!

GT --- drywall is patched and dried and sanded; wasn't really hard at all...did a little research and I do think I have a bit of an orange peel texture. There is a spray-on DIY product available @ Menards and I think I am going to get and do some test/practice with. I figure I've invested literally nothing at this point so I may as well see if that might be for me.

My basic, basic cable (not digital, no premium channels, 2 ESPN channels, the Food Network and HGTV) and cable internet is $135 a month. Mediacom has a monopoly here.

It could be worse.

On a brighter note, I now have 21 skinless/boneless chicken breasts in the freezer. They didn't have the 2/$3 Blue Bell Fruit Bars, but substituted Edy's Fruit Bars instead. I'd rather have Edy's anyway.
