we brought our havaheart cage to sil's 2nd home to catch the groundhog here and guess what they caught instead?

and bil didn't even know what it was. ummmm, black and white w/ a black pointed head w/ a stripe running down doesn't give it away......

Wave I'm recovering from my last 2 days. On Friday, I went to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg with 5 of my MOMS Club friends. It was sooo much fun since we were kid free! Cool

On Saturday, I caught up with my college roommate. It was another kid free day! We made our annual treck to the Green Valley Bookfair [gvbookfair.com] to get super cheap books. My kids have been reading non-stop since I got back. I recommend it for anyone in VA, you get some really good deals and the mountains are gorgeous this time of year!

That sounds like a lot of fun! We went the first weekend Howl-O-Scream was open, had the whole park mostly to ourselves that Sunday morning because it was raining.

Never EVER try to fix a garage door yourself, even if you think it's only misaligned. I did one of the stupidest things I have ever done in my life. I thought one of the rollers needed to be realigned so I began taking out the three screws that held the plate in place. As soon as the third screw was undone enough, the plate flew out and hit me in the head, just above my right eyebrow. I thought the cable, which attaches to a very strong and long spring, was attached to the door itself, not this steel plate. I was so wrong. The plate that hit me didn't just hit me... it was powered by that spring. I was extremely lucky in that I still have my nose and my eye. I do have ten stitches though, in a lovely "L" shape on my forehead. The swelling is going down some, although I looked a bit like Frankenstein's monster with such a swollen brow. The eye is already turning black. It's going to be a doozy.

So, do not ever ever ever mess with garage doors.

Yikes! Glad you are ok, it could have been so much worse. Those things scare me. It seems our springs break every 3-4 years, and we have to call the service out, but it's nothing I'd want to watch my DH try to handle.

so glad you didn't get hurt even worse.

hon... got any arnica at home? if not, get a bottle of arnica 30c pills from any whole foods or health food store. if you don't have one near you, let me know, and i'll mail it out to you tomorrow.

4-6 pellets 3-4 times a day.
the black eye will dissipate with arnica and the stitches will heal faster.

no side effects.

bil cut open a black contracters garbage bag, draped it over the cage so it wouldn't get scared and opened the trap door. then dh and bil went to play golf. came back, skunk was still there. maybe he was sleeping b/c they are nocturnal? he ended up tilting the cage to evict him.

meanwhile, on the way out to walmart to get bait so nephew and friends could go fishing, i saw the groundhog we were trying to catch run into the drainage ditch. when dh and bil came back from golf they saw him too.

Thanks for your well-wishes, guys. I feel like I've been shot in the head. The doc was very liberal with the anesthetic, and amazingly that whole area is still somewhat numb 10 hours later. I'll check into that arnica thing, gg... there's a whole foods not too far from where I have to go tomorrow. As bad as the damage was, it could have been so much worse.

just call em and ask for the whole body department - that's where they have the homeopathic remedies as well as many different supplements etc.

tell them you are looking for a homeopathic remedy by boiron. arnica 30c.

it's usually about 6 bucks for a bottle (it's a slim plastic tube). they have a special packaging set of 3 bottles for about 12 bucks. that's what i would recommend getting. each bottle has about 50 small pills (they're about the size of mustard seeds, maybe a tad bigger). you'll need a few bottles, so the 3-pack is worth it.

if you don't find it there, and want me to mail, just holler here, or by pm or email.

you can also order online from washington homeopathy (they ship nationwide), vitacost, or amazon (amazon's prices are much more expensive).

and oh, ICE darling. ice that shiner, and the forehead area above the stitches: you can just use a bag of frozen peas or corn. it will mold to your face more easily. put back in freezer when it starts to thaw. reuse in a bit. etc.

I SO almost asked you if there were any homeopathic remedies for pink eye this wknd. DD had the start of it Saturday and I was like UGH seriously on the wknd. when the Dr. isn't open and we'd have to go to urgent care just for eye drops ($35 copay) !!! Or miss school this week before we could get to her reg. dr. and she could get them started...and there's way too much going on this week for this laugh out loud BUT I ended up getting some Similisan (sp?) and getting her going on that this weekend and it cleared right up. It says on the bottle it's homeopathic - is it really?? If not what is for future reference?! I'm so glad it worked....and fast!

Morning, everyone! Wave Enjoying the steam from my first mug of coffee. Wishing I could go back to sleep on this overcast, chilly day.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! We had the privilege of getting the kids each a new pair of shoes. Faint Thank God for Nordstrom Rack. My son's feet are very fat, and so he wears out shoes like nobody's business, unless they are good quality. Found a pair of Sperry's for $26.xx for him. Much rather pay that and have the shoes last a year, than $15 at Target and they wear out in a month. nod

So many freebies on cold meds at RA last week and this week. My medicine cabinet is gonna be overloaded. laugh out loud Of course, so far this season, our house has remained healthy. :crossingfingers: I'm hoping that a fully stocked medicine cabinet means no one gets sick. Because you know, if I had NO meds in the cabinet, than everyone would get sick, and I'd have to pay full price. shake head
