honey, it's going to be cold on the water. no, mum, the sun's going to be beating down on us. no honey, you need to take a sweater and a wind jacket, you'll have ocean winds, it'll be windy.

don't have any.

i don't buy that junk. and i wouldn't be caught wearing that stuff - even on the north pole.

but TM4D, listen to ST on clothing layers cos I tend not to like hot weather, and tolerate much more "coolness" laugh out loud than others. so if you're one who gets cold, it's true, you will get cold on the water or walking down blustery NYC streets.

there, ST, better now? heart

laugh out loud Funny thing is I am less concerned about temps. than I am about rain. I just don't want to deal with rain....and umbrellas....and yuck. I have a pretty broad range of comfortable when it comes to temps. It has been and is supposed to continue to be in the 50's or so here in IA through the week. I always guess I thought it'd be colder in NY Huh 60's are quite the nice surprise. Highs in the 60's are about my favorite sort of weather....hoodie weather Smilie

i don't have the patience to deal with umbrellas. they always get wonky in the wind and it's hard to control em in the blustery wind tunnels in manhattan. so i always just use a baseball cap and an anorak.

if it's drizzling, the anorak and cap are enough. if it starts raining harder, i just open up the anorak hood and pull it over my cap and that's that. plus a pair of snappy looking rain boots so your feet/trousers don't get soaked and you're good.

highs in the 60s = hoodies? EEK!

ok, yes, i admit we have different temp scales. hoodie weather = low 30s, or high 20s. laugh out loud 60s for me is dress weather. or a polo shirt.
50s = a light jean jacket.
40s = a leather jacket or light fleece or suede jacket or a suit jacket and light trench.

The kids don't often surprise me but monkey toddler, well the 4 yr old monkey toddler laugh out loud, has changed that. Today, we met an older lady at a play place, and the lady was talking to him about when she was a bus driver. She introduced herself by name, and was telling him what a sweet boy he is. We sat down to eat, monkey boy pointed her out to the older siblings, and called her by name.

Hours later, when dh came home, I asked monkey what the bus driver's name is. He remembered it! He has finally shown an interest in potty training, usually he's too busy to be bothered, but he can remember the name of someone he met once. For the longest time I felt like I was failing him somehow because he couldn't tell someone how old he is- until I realized that if you ask how old the TRAIN is, he will tell you how old he is. laugh out loud Today he also told me that it's his house number. I knew he was a smart cookie but this even surprised me (the name recall, that is).

Applause for monkey toddler. Sounds like he's growing up.

Yawn Why can't I sleep? I got a new bed 3+ weeks ago and haven't had a good nights sleep without medication intervention. My old mattress/box springs was 20+ years old, but Crying I miss my sleep! I feel like a zombie throughout each day...

So its hubby's b-day today, and he took the day off. I'm trying to think of something fun and cheap that he and I and the little one can do. Any ideas? Its raining, which knocks out anything outdoors. Not much more to do beyond that beyond shopping, which I'm not sure he'll go for! Big Grin

TM4D, if you are flying in or out of LGA, you can see the Queens center mall T. They have a huge bullseye on the roof. laugh out loud That is also a very friendly T if you have time to shop Coverlaugh

I totally recommend seeing a show, you can get cheap tickets at the TKTS booth in Times Square. I can also recommend a couple delicious off-the-beaten path restaurants if you are interested.

I miss living in NYC. I mean, it's crazy expensive and I always felt like I would never get ahead, but boy, is there a lot to do.

i'd eventually love to become a snowbird but we'll have to see. dh doesn't like it hot. he likes 60's and 70's and wears shorts in the 60's. i like 80's and up. high 70's are ok. dh likes to go to watch spring training games in florida in march but usually that's a little to chilly for me in central florida. closer to ft lauderdale/miami area was nice and dh could drive half and hr to an hr to the games.

maybe your new mattress is too hard? that happened to me b/c in the showroom it had a box spring but at home we put it on a platform. i had to buy a thick foam eggcrate mattress pad. the 1" ones don't do anything. has to be 2-3" at least. i wish they still made them perforated w/ holes b/c they can get hot in the summer.

unfortunately ny1 (local cable station) is saying chance of showers on tues.
http://www.ny1.com/content/weathe..._forecast/

when dh's family went apple picking last month, the forecast had been for rain that sunday. sil didn't have another day free so we didn't make the call to go till that morning. fil was watching tv and ny1 was the only one to forecast hot and sunny and was the only one to get it right. weather.com and all the major networks got it wrong.

the temperatures will be more moderate by the water than in the middle of the country, not so hot and not so cold. just like seattle, san fran, etc. however, it's a little unusual that the range is only 10-15 degrees. it can be 20-25 degree difference between night and day. it's the clouds that are trapping in the heat. the nights that are forecast to be in the 50's are cloudy. the ones that are in the 40's are clear or partly cloudy.

mid 60's can be s/s tee's but only in the sun, of which there is not a lot of in midtown and downtown nyc. but if you go to central park you could catch some rays.

nowadays, when it's raining, many places will hand out plastic bags for your umbrellas, esp places like macys. what i'll do is carry a compact folding umbrella in a plastic bag in my handbag and when i go in and out the wet umbrella gets stashed in the plastic bag. yeah, it's annoying but what can you do?

As part of my constant reminder TNBAF (to never buy another Ford), dh's car is 3 years old and has 32,000 miles. So far, he has had the a/c repaired, power mirrors repaired, his radio is BROKEN, battery stopped working today, transmission has been repaired, brakes and tires need to be replaced before his safety inspection in January. I don't freaking believe all the problems on a car that is 3 years old. Mad Cheap, crappy Continental tires that Ford put on there, and now it's going to cost $550 for tires, don't have a quote yet on the brakes. Spent $100 on a battery today.

There are CDs stuck in the radio, and they have to remove the radio, sent it to the factory, and someone there will take the CDs out and hopefully mail them to us.

I could see having a bunch of problems if the car were older, and had more miles but 32,000? Really Ford?? Quality isn't job one any longer. eta car in question is 2008 Ford Taurus X, in case anyone is wondering.

woot Thanks, I will look for it Teehee I totally want to visit one of the 2-story T.'s just to say I was there Stick Out Tongue My luck I'd find a bunch of stuff I wanted to bring home though. I don't plan to take coupons. Don't want to lug them along. I have now crossed off seeing the totally cool red and gray shopping carts (we have the old red & metal ones here) so now I need to see a two-story.

laugh out loud Well, if grandma lived closer, we would! But one grandma is 24hrs drive away, another is 14hrs drive away, and the third is, well, a 10hr plane ride away. Wink

But we did manage to have fun. My youngest wanted to watch Tangled, so hubby chilled on the couch with her, and then we went shopping and had lunch. He said all he wanted to do today was bring his kids to school and pick them up, so he's getting his wish. And I'm happy because I get a little break from it!
