I apologize for bringing business into the chat thread, but I'm hoping for lots of feedback here...

What does everyone think about the Target debit RedCard? I've never used the Paypal debit card, but it sounds similar to that program: a regular debit card with the same functions, except it is exclusively funded by money you transfer from your bank accounts. Do overdrafts & associated fees get drawn from your checking account?

Have there been any account security issues?

Is there an option to use it as a credit card, or more like an ATM card in that sense?

In short, is it worth it despite any drawbacks, inconveniences or other issues? I absolutely don't want the credit card. I don't shop at Target every week and we have a regular T, but the 5% off alone seems worth it.
You don't transfer any money into it. It comes directly out of your checking account. If there is no money in your checking then you would overdraft and be charged whatever your bank normally charges.

It's not like a credit card at all. I'm pretty sure they don't even run a credit check.
When you do use it at the checkout, it gives you an option to request cash. I don't think that you can use it at a ATM, but I never tried.

I have never had any problems with mine except when I have tried to use more then three times in one day. Then I got denied. I'm not sure if that is a security check they have in place or if it was a one time glitch.

Also it doesn't come out of your checking automatically, it takes a couple of days to clear. (just like a check would)

I buy everything with my redcard. Then I don't have to keep track of receipts in case I need to return something, because I know that I paid with the redcard. They can do a reciept look up on all charge cards, but it's easier for me since I know what card I used. There is a glitch in their system about returning something the same day you bought it. But that problem is with all cards, just not theirs.

It doesn't bother me if they are tracking me. They still don't send me any mailings. Mad

I'm thinking about my Mama today. 27 years ago today she died of cancer.

It's amazing how much she influenced my moral compass, how she passed on her couponing skills (L O N G before couponing was cool) and how she shopped for specials and stocked up on good buys has affected me. I pray that she would be proud of the woman I've become.

Comfort Tn. Sending you peace and lots of love. My heart sinks that my kids never got to know my mom. I pray she can feel that her love lives in them.

We have lost power since Friday night. Happy that the basement is cool enough for us to sleep but unfortunatly our stockpile in the frigdes/freezers is probably lost. I keep hopng the power will come back on and that we could keep the stuff in the standup freezer :praying: we gang out at stores and just had lunch at harris teeter. Maybe a trip to T for a bogo frappuccino is in order LMAO

What gets to me is that my granny's senior apartment building is out toi but she wont leave. She lives in another town not far and didnt even call us from the loby. I decides to takes the kids and check on her today. I had to clean out ger fridge of the moldy/defrosted stuff that she wanted to keep. She was okay with it though and let me give her new milk, bread, and ice to keep it cool in the freezer...I snuck in plain salad too. Called my cousin to come see her tonight. Ill go back tomorrow. But OMG the paper said it could take a week! Anyway we can get $$ back for all the food losses laugh out loud

I miss SD LMAO my phone doesn't have much service and I charge it in the car.

can i just ask why you wouldn't want a target credit card? you get a free 30 day float. i always say money in my pocket is better than money in their pocket. does the target cc give back 1% back everywhere else like other cc's? i have always had cc's w/ money back for the last 15yrs+. as long as you pay them in full every month i don't see any problem. the 1% back is great. i get $200+ back in hard cash every yr from costco.
Simple as me not wanting another credit card at all - I have one I'm happy with at my credit union. I know many people balance multiple credit cards with different benefits & profit from it, but I prefer to just have one card right now.

Thanks for the advice, everyone!

i can understand not having many but there is a benefit to having minimum one amex and one visa/mc, esp if you travel.

i have refrained from getting a target card b/c i just don't spend that much at target. the costco amex is good b/c 3% back on gas and restaurants all the time, 2% on travel and 1% back everywhere else and getting it back in cold cash just cannot be beat. however, many places we go to do not take amex so need a visa/mc. and of course you also need to belong to costco for their amex. BofA supposedly came out w/ one similar to the costco amex. i need to look into that but i don't see giving up my costco membership anytime soon. will be buying tires there this yr.

Ok, I need some advice on how to handle a situation. I went to Target yesterday to price match an item. I was told that the limit on the target coupon I was using is one offer per guest, which I agreed with but I asked if I could come back tomorrow. At that time, she said no because I would be the same guest and also told me that I can't use the coupon with another cashier if she sees me. I told her that I think I would be considered a new guest on a new day. So, she read the line very loudly and slowly as if she was talking to someone who could not comprehend, "Limit. one. coupon. or. offer. per. guest!" And she continued to repeat "per guest!" I told her I disagreed and she said "Fine!" I decided to leave at that point.
I went back today and she was there again. It was obvious that she told her fellow cashier at CS. She honored the coupon, but as I walked off she told her friend that she will be calling the GSTL next time I come. Did I do something wrong? She was so condescending and I felt so humiliated yesterday. Can someone please advise me on how to handle this situation so that I don't have to deal with this every time I want to price match at CS and use a target coupon. TIA!!!

you can't really argue w/ them when they want to be ballbusters and stick to the letter of the law figuratively. she can't work there from opening to close 365. just go when she's not there. there is another rule to slickdeals besides *don't call*. *if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again.*

and to be a true slickdealer, you really have to have a thick skin. otherwise it's best to fly under the radar and don't push the issue if you can tell they are a stickler. i don't ask if i can do stuff, i just go some other time i don't think kelley, my target ballbuster gstl, is working. she makes the cashiers ring up the free after tq stuff in separate transactions. makes everyone behind me incredulous and sigh very loudly. but hey, not my fault they want to waste everyone's time.

You shouldn't have asked if you could come back tomorrow. When you did and she said no, she is going to make a big deal about it every time. Either go when she's not working or go to a different store.

Unfortunately, there are 3 of them who work in CS and they are the 3 stooges. They have horrible attitudes, and one or two of them are always there. My sister used a $1 off 10 picture prints tq a while back to get 10 prints for free (because they were on sale for 10 cents each), and one of them flipped out that she can't walk out of Target taking their stuff for free. She told my sister that if she is a resident of CA, then she must pay sales tax, so she added a charge of 8 cents and made her pay it. EEK! She is not even allowed to do that. She was very rude and angry, but we just let it go at the time. I am getting real tired of this team. Any other suggestions???

I would say illegally charging sales tax would be a start. Perhaps write a letter to the store manager about the issue. Overcharging is one thing. When someone collects sales tax - that must be paid to the state. The sales tax doesn't belong to the store. It belongs to the state.

If she messes up enough and you call her on it each time, she may learn to stop the crap....or it could get worse. It is a risk.

I thought that nbc report was a bad joke or that pepco was just covering their a$$ w/ the worse case ....but nope one of granmy's friend's son works at pepco and they said the same but also that they can't get through because of fallen trees and they wait for whomever's job it is to clear them out before they'll come in. Ugh I think our area needs a transformer...we heard a loud bang two nights ago after our light/ac came on for 2 seconds...TEASE!

I think you need to sit down and write a letter to Target's corporate office about the person. They can't illegally charge sales tax. Though I am not sure why they know where your sister is from, did you give them your whole life story or something? I guess I don't talk to employees much in any store when I shop so a conversation like that would be uncalled for.
