ok, why did my post get dumped into chat???

A- it's about target.
B- i was trying to help somebody find a deal item at target.

this makes no sense whatsoever.

Quote from slowtech :
too bad you missed the pale lavender children's fingerless gloves that fit my size 7 hands from the dollar spot clearance for .30. last yr my bff's dd said she wanted fingerless gloves so when i saw them and they were her favorite color, i picked them up. was told they were a hit and the twin sister was upset she didn't get a pair too. at my store they only came in one color so i only bought the one.

try this.

the online item number is above the dpci on the target webpage.

let me know if it worked for you and i will wiki this tomorrow. been busy w/ toy clearance.

Hi eveyone!

No target deals to speak of but I do have a question and figured no better place to ask opinions than the tcc peeps! lol

So my dd car completely went out (warped head apparently so would need new motor) so we will be doing our best to help her get a new(er) one. She has saved like crazy over the last year and has about 7-8k to put towards one. We are hoping to find a good, reliable, gas efficient car under $10,000 and we will help her with whatever the cost is over her amount saved. I am a SAHM and she drives daily to the local college (30min one way) and then back and to work everyday. Sooo...
My question is at what point do you all consider dropping your full coverage ins. down to liability? I did some research and it suggested when your annual premiums are 10% of cars value.

What I am trying to decide is if I should drop MY car down to liability and put her new(er) car to full coverage??? My car is OLD lol It is a 2002, has just at 100,000 miles on it. We bought it brand new off the lot in 2002 and have maintained it well. I hope to keep it until it falls apart! Smilie The car she is looking at is either a 2008 Ford Focus or a 2009 Nissan versa. I think it makes much more sense to apply full coverage to hers and let mine fall to liability. IF we help her buy hers we would have to save a few years in order to recoup that money. (which would be put back into a fund incase mine goes out lol)

Any insight or suggestions? Thanks for your help, you all are always so wonderful!

Go to kbb.com or edmunds.com and figure out how much your car is worth. That is how much your insurance it going to pay you if you total it. Compare that with how much a year you are paying for the full coverage. Since your car is over 10 years old, I would probably drop it.

My dd also just had to replace her car.
Just went thru a catastrophe with her very old almost 20 year old great running honda.

After that experience. I would ,look at can you afford to replace that very old car if something like
a car accident ,were to happen today ? I'm not sure in todays economy the old rule of thumb applies, especially when the old car has alot of life left in it.

Just make sure you take into account your total financial picture and your specific situation before you drop that ins. coverage.

By the way if you are checking edmunds and the insurance pays they should base it on retail reselling value.

This is a tricky decision at this point in the cars life.

photos... find yourself a copy of the April Cars edition of Consumer Reports magazine. It will have recommended used cars and those to avoid. My dinky county library even had a subscription.

ETA: I rolled 282000 miles on my car yesterday. 1996 Geo Prizm Lsi
Great Idea. My DD actually works at the library so I will have her check it out. Thanks!

Yep I did exactly that. We are right on the borderline of the 10% value of paying premiums per year compared to cars worth. We dropped my DH's truck down to liability several years ago (his is older than mine). But I am just afraid to lower mine, actually I was afraid when I lowered his but it had to be done, as we added our (then teen dd) to the policy and needed to save some $$.

Tricky indeed.Embarrassment Ok so based on retail reselling value...I will have to go look it up again as I was wondering which they would go by. I honestly do not drive anywhere except once a week to the next town over, otherwise I am pretty much here at home (for now).
As far as could we replace it financially? Well yes, but with the same value as it is worth. But anything above we would have to probably finance. That would be doable but we were hoping to get another couple years out of it at least. Then both kids would be paying their own way and would be more financially feasible. Big Grin
IDK it is alot to think about.

We spent 2hrs at a dealership last night and I walked out. They wouldn't budge the $500 I wanted them to. lol My DD stuck to her guns and wouldn't budge over the price we set. I was very proud of her. We went in with a final number and a plan and we stuck to it. There are so many dealers out there, we figure another deal will come along. So we will keep looking.
Thanks for all of the info and advice. worship

We found her car here ,great site, pop in your zip code and how close to hme, will tell you if car is overpriced, we still got them down from a "fair price", rule of thumb is 10-13% off asking
we did better than thatLMAO

No better luck so far. It seems like no matter what we set our budget at, all the decent cars are more and the ones just below are crappy. Want to get the least amt of miles/newest car for the money. So the search goes on.

Have you tried searching dealerships online, in neighboring towns? We saved $10,000 on our Expedition last year by buying from a dealership 150 miles from the DC burbs.

Good luck in your search!

another *my husband is an alien* story. so was in a little rush to get out of the house to make the 11:10am showing of the hobbit. asked dh to toast me an english muffin and put some philadelphia indulgence on it. he yelled up the staircase- should i put it on b4 or after i toast it?

seriously??? when do you ever put stuff on bread b4 you toast it? we have a toaster oven now, but we did have a regular 2 slice toaster b4 probably for longer than we've had the toaster oven. let's just think about it for 2 seconds......put the chocolate cream cheese spread on the bread and then put it in a vertical toaster.....and you are in charge of cleaning the inside of the toaster after.....if you haven't started a fire.......

the hobbit in high frame rate imax 3D was awesome. a lot of the movies i've seen the past couple yrs in 3D wasn't really worth the extra money, including the last harry potter. but i think w/ a large cast, large numbers of creatures on screen at the same time, majestic scenery and amazing special effects, the 3D really came into play beautifully.

lots of death and destruction and ugly monster creatures so i don't recommend for young kids. if they weren't into harry potter, i wouldn't recommend the hobbit. my 12yr old niece and 8 yr old nephew haven't gotten into harry potter yet, i think they thought it was too scary. i read the hobbit and the lord of the rings in 6th grade b/c my cousin who is 3yrs older than me got the books so my mom borrowed them after. at the time a tv movie of the hobbit had come out. i was also into my mythology period, so reading about a fantasy land fit right in. i got into science fiction and fantasy in 9th-10th grade, so that's probably a really good age for those kinds of movies.

oh, another- my dh is an alien story w/in 4hrs. dh- i don't know what those were that rescued the dwarves, bilbo and gandalf from orcs who'd tree'd them on the edge of a promontory. me- the EAGLES? the same ones that rescued frodo baggins from moria after he destroyed the ring in lord of the rings? he didn't even say birds. at least call them birds so i know you know more than a toddler.

seriously, we've only seen that movie every yr on tv since it's come out. his excuse? i didn't read the book and i don't want to or it will spoil the coming movies. me- i read it in 6th grade. i don't remember anything from reading the book 30 yrs ago. i remember from seeing the movies. (which we saw together!)

I spent almost 3 hours in a car dealership today, after 2 hours on Monday.

Monday I test drove the new 2013 Toyota Rav4. They have fixed the two issues I had with my 2007 one (blind spot and tail gate swinging out). I drooled over the new Prius V (it's a wagon) they had on display, but didn't drive it. I set up an appt for today to drive a Prius V and the "traditional" Prius.
I didn't really like either hybrid. Even though I have a Geo Prizm Lsi, I'm used to stepping on the gas and it actually going. It takes time for the hybrid car to figure out that you want to go, and to get off battery and use some gas. I would choose a V over the traditional one, if I HAD to buy a Prius. I also drove a 2013 Corolla. It's basically the same car I already have, only the newer model. Felt like "home". I'm not in any hurry. I still have the 1996 Prizm, with 282K miles on it and I won't be trading that one in, as they wouldn't give me anything for it, and it still gets 35 mpg.
Decisions, decisions.

Tha little geo sounds like a gem, that mileage is really impressive.EEK! We keep our cars pretty much till they don't run anymore also, or like the poor honda got toatled before it's timeMad It was a liitle over 150k and had alot more life in it mileage- wise, plus it wasn't driven far on a daily basis so had ALOT more years left it.

Maybe you could get them to let you test drive both those models for a day or two they let you do that around here.

Car hunting is a real drag,,,hope you can find something you're happy with.

Hi all,
I am at orlando, can you believe it? I was unsure untill yesterday morning if I will accompny DH, who has conference at the peabody conference center and he is booked into the peabody hotel.
Ok, decided that we all can come with him for a week and got here yesternay night. The darm hotel doesn't even have a DARN coffee maker. $18/person for super cheap breakfast that has coffee, toast and fruits. It horribly sucks.
Sorry for the rant.. I am puffing and huffing, DH already left for his conference.

I am taking the kids out somewhere... I have few questions for some of you regulars... Which disneyland themepark or universal studio that *I* can take my 2 kids [8 yr and 4 yr old]. I am confused and in need of quick suggestions since i donno where to start. I am left wit kids until wednesday, only when DH is free ad we have until saturday to go around.
I am thinking about hollywood studios for the 3 of us. DS#1 is little above 42 inches and DS#2 is small that someone newer would ask if he is 2 or 3... With their height in mind, will *i* be able to take the kids to rides?
With the four of is, we have planned to go to legoland, magic kingdom, epcot and one more themepark.

The painful part is now to shop some grocery like water, chocolate milk, banana, yogurt and some snacks for the kids.

I will truly appreciate the reply from you guys. Thanks a lot, i am still annoyed over the face that there is *no * coffeemaker in the room.grrrr

I didn't post this laugh out loud

Go buy yourself a small coffeemaker. Use it for the week and take it back (not big enough, not hot enough, whatever) and get your $$ back. I've done this for a hand mixer, when I didn't realize the "complete kitchen" in a residence inn didn't have a mixer while I was on travel 15+ years ago. You'll probably have to buy the coffee and filters though.
