Updates to answer questions

Q: Will this automatically renew?
A: NO!
Quote :
The automatic renewal provisions in the Amazon Prime Terms & Conditions (which would require you to pay for Amazon Prime) do not apply to this membership, even if we decide to extend the free Amazon Prime offer beyond one year.
Q: Can I get this if I'm not a student (even if I have a .edu e-mail address)?
A: You might be able to. And you might not.
If you do not qualify and they catch you, Amazon will make you reimburse them for their costs
Quote :
If you do not provide documentation indicating that you meet the eligibility requirements above, you may be required to reimburse us for benefits you received as a result of your Amazon Student membership.
*I am not the arbiter of morality, but please don't abuse this by signing up if you do not meet Amazon's requirements*

Q: What happens if I already have a prime account?
A: I'm not sure, however people are reporting that if they currently have a prime account and they sign-up for the Amazon Student account, the following happens:
1. Their current prime account gets cancelled and they get a pro-rated refund
2. They get signed up for the free 1 year amazon student prime

Q: My .edu address isn't my Amazon.com address -- do I have to create a new account?
A: No
Quote :
If your .edu e-mail address isn't listed on your Amazon.com account, that's OK. The only e-mail we'll send to your .edu e-mail address is the verification e-mail. After that, other Amazon Student e-mails will be sent to the e-mail address listed on your Amazon.com account.
Q: Ohh my gosh, this is amazing, how can I thank you!?!?!
A: Students are notoriously poor. Many have to work minimum-wage jobs while taking classes to pay for rent, tuition and food. Let a student know about this deal and help them save money. Also, donating old books you have lying around the house to schools and libraries (especially those dealing with budget cuts) could potentially enrich a child's life and help them get interested in many different subjects and put them on the path to higher education.

"Join Amazon Student and get FREE Two-Day Shipping for one year with a free Amazon Prime membership ($79 value), as well as e-mail alerts for exclusive promotions. There is no cost to join--simply sign up by providing your school and major. If youre not a student, you may still be eligible for a free trial of Amazon Prime."

EDIT: This is really crazy!! Almost 2750 thumbs ups and counting! -- Over 3900 reps (I started with only 17!) Thanks everyone for all the support!

Here's the back story of how this deal came about: My sister-in-law really wanted a prime account since their's had just ended a short time go. She kept asking if I wanted to split one with her and my other siblings, but the rest of us weren't so keen on the idea because we didn't have that much of a need for it.

Fast forward to yesterday afternoon, she calls me and tells me about this Amazon Student thing and asks if I've ever heard of it. I told her no and did a search on slickdeals and google and couldn't find a thing on it. I went to the website she gave me and saw that you get Prime free for a year if you're a student, etc. etc. I verified it worked and that you could add family members to the account.

As soon as that happened, I posted it here since I've been a member for a while, but never posted a deal before (everyone is really quick on the uptake for this kind of stuff so by the time I find out about something, it's probably been on here for days already). I wanted to give back to everyone and this was the perfect opportunity.

The rest as they say, is history (1 day old history!)

Try creating a free .edu email address at https://eims.maricopa.edu/MAW/MAW.html

Just select the option:
I am a new student and have never attended any Maricopa Community College or Skill Centers.
HAHA...It actually works! Would not be my first choice of colleges... EEK!

(We already have a Prime account, but was just curious/bored so decided to see if one could really get a .edu address this way.)

I can confirm, you cannot share on student prime.
Currently my free student prime is shared with one other. I did this the same day it was posted on here. When I renew at the end of the month will they take the sharing away? Maybe that could be why no renew option is shown on my prime page now since they want me to start it over after it expires?

I see on their site that it says, "Upgrade now to get Amazon Prime for only $39/year (normally $79/year) and enjoy: "

I'm assuming a year is... 12 months.

Mine expires on 02/28 as well. I'm HOPING they keep the $39 deal until the end of the month and not switch it back to $79.
I think this offer is here to stay. I am free student prime member and for me under account, Manage prime membership shows....

Trial Membership Dates: September 8, 2010 - July 25, 2012

Preferred payment method for Prime: Amazon.com Visa ***.

As an Amazon Student you received six months of free Prime shipping benefits. You will automatically upgrade to an annual membership for $39 on July 25, 2012.

I am confused...Right now my Student prime membership will expire on 2/28.
If I were to sign up for another free 6 months...do I need to use a totally different email address and create a new account? There is no way to renew another free 6 months using the same email address as we did in the past?

I'm wondering the same thing.

If I could just get another six months through August I'd be happy renewing at that time.

I guess I could make a new amazon account and use a different .edu, but will Amazon cross check my personal/address/payment information? I'd hate to put my current account in jeopardy. Plus, I'd end up having to renew my new Amazon account when it expires, and I would then have some gift certificate balance on my old account (along with my Amazon Visa and its cash back credit, which I'm guessing would not be linkable to my new account if I wanted to not arouse red flags).

Seems like a lot of risk. I'm perfectly okay with renewing for $39, but I want my yearly cycles to start and end in the summer, not February.

If you are already sharing, then you will continue to share. They won't take it away.

I want to ask, when do they send you an email to renew at $39 for the year? I will play it safe and do this, my Prime expires at the end of Feb. as well, so I would like to know.

I opened another account with another .edu address. There was no checking anything. But I don't know if there is a way to transfer the balance and other stuff.

Go to your Account and Manage Prime Membership. I got the email to renew at $39 several times already.

If I don't renew immediately after my free trial expires, can I sign up for the $39 Student Prime a couple of months later?

I'm guessing the answer is no, but thought to ask anyways.

Is there even a renewal option in the My Account page? I don't see such an option when I click on Amazon Prime Membership. Haven't received a renewal notice either and my membership expires on February 28th.
