Hey...does anyone else think there are TWO smoke monsters? (ie. Jacob is one too). There is a subtle difference in noise when the smoke monster appears (one makes a noise like it is mechanical).

Is just doesn't make sense that the Others would build a fence to defend themselves from it, but Ben could summon it at will to help them. It also bothers me that the smoke monster and Isabelle appear together...how is that possible? I'm probably gonna look dumb for saying this, but oh well Smilie

I don't think there are 2 smoke monsters although the theory is interesting. There is always a mechanical sound when the smoke monster shows up but the differences in how it behaves seems to be based on if the which way the person's "Evil O Meter" is pointing.

Ben and the others didn't build the fence to defend themselves, that was the Dharma initiative, the others seem to have no need to defend themselves from Smokey since they were able to run around the jungle unharmed for years.

Isabelle in the Black Rock talking to Ricardo was likely the smoke monster. But Isabelle with Hurley was a real "ghost", Hurley is able to communicate with the dead.

what do you think that means, what Jacob can not do and what he is able to do?

aaaand, If Richard wanted to be with his wife again why would he choose to never die?

If Richard was told back then he wasn't dead, and this wasn't hell, why would he be saying it again now?

What has been keeping the MIB on the island, to keep him contained? oh, okay.

He asked Jacob to be with his wife as his first request (denied) his second request was to be absolved from his sin (denied) so the last request was to never die (since he would just go to hell and not be with his wife for eternity)

Also as to why he now thought it was hell.. I have a feeling it is because he was feeling used and abandoned by Jacob, he also felt that everything Jacob had ever told him was a lie so he was second guessing the Hell statement.

Yeah, I get that part. But you see Isabelle walk up the steps from the Black Rock and immediately attacked by the smoke monster (you don't see this part, only hear her screams).

As for the sounds part, you'll notice that the horn and the mechanical sound do not happen every time the smoke monster appears. I think this is a clue.

I'm interested to know why smokey is now stuck in Lockes body as opposed to all the other bodies he's taken over. What happened to cause this?

I don't think he's "stuck" per se. I think he can assume any dead person's form:

Christian, Alex, now Locke. If someone dies, he might be able to take that shape too. Dontknow

I feel like last night's episode gave more answers than the past 5 seasons combined laugh out loud

It seems he can be dead people, but not permanently unless there's an actual proxy (dead body) available to him. Also, we ASSUME they she's "attacked" by the smoke monster, when in actuality she may have simply reverted back to smoke monster form. Smokey probably did this to scare Richard, to further push his fear of 'el diablo', and to ultimately get him on his side.

So how is Ford still a candidate considering what he's done, even just on the island?

I'm not sure the candidacy is based on our regular known sense of morals and ethics. Dontknow who knows what goes into it.

QUESTION: about Smokey's goals and how to achieve them.

He wants to get off the island, but can't because of Jacob. Jacob's still on the island, but he still can't get off. His plan was to take a plane off the island, which seems weird. Obviously Smokey is limited to the physical realm and limitations. Why doesn't Smokey just take the Sub or another boat that he finds?

why does he need surviving Others and Sawyer?

I thought the "Lost" producers said they wouldn't have anymore flashbacks? Well, yesterday was the mother of all flashbacks - by far the longest and the oldest. Since it showed Richard (Ricardo - which BTW, the show never answered why his name was changed) looking to be his current age - 30? - in 1867 - would mean he's about 170 years old. EEK! Jacob proved to him he could make him live forever, and yet now he no longer is a believer in Jacob b/c Jacob is dead and wants to go to the evil empire of the MIB? I find that hard to believe. Good thing Hurley was there to bring him back to the white side via Isabella. laugh out loud

There were no flash-sideways scenes in last night's episode. Cool

I thought they said no more time travel, not no more flashbacks. I could be wrong. I'm guessing Ricardo became Richard because he only really spoke English after leaving the Canary Islands.

I get the feeling that MIB would need the other candidates to die and have the last living candidate to leave the island with him so no one would be left to take Jacob's place. No facts to back this up but just made sense to me.

I also think that Richard didn't have any issue with believing Jacob had powers but it was his faith in Jacob's cause that he lost. For example when I married my ex husband I knew his family had money and thought they were good people, when I got divorced I still knew they had money but realized they were jerks. Big Grin
