The flash sideways can't be taking place in the future. Do you really think would all be on Oceanic 815 again and be completely oblivious to the past, to the point where they don't even know each other aside from a sense of deja vu?

Also, Desmond isn't disoriented because he's not traveling through time, he's moving from one reality to an alternate reality.

I thought the title of the episode, "Happily Ever After", would've referred to Sun and Jin. But I was wrong. I knew this would be Desmond-focused and it was. It looks like he's the only person who can see both timelines/universes. That's pretty weird how in the LA timeline that Eloise and Widmore are married, so that makes Penny Widmore and Daniel Faraday half-siblings. Charlie opened Desmond's eyes by trying to kill him. laugh out loud

Widmore made a believer out of Desmond. I wonder what the end game is for Widmore on Desmond - to somehow make iLocke (MIB) stay on the island? I had to LOL when Charlie said (in the LA timeline) he fell in love at first sight with Kate. I can't blame him. Embarrassment
Kate, or Claire? I assumed Claire when he was talking about the blonde hair.

I am kind of disappointed they are taking the scientific approach to the island (albeit farfetched) instead of the religious/mythological approach. I also am annoyed at the "love transcends all obstacles" theory. Bleh.

It's been a plotline all series, I'd have been disappointed if they abandoned it.

I think it's a perfectly plausible theory. Someone (Desmond) travels back in time again, nukes the Orchid, the island sinks, and everybody's lives are reset to that point in history where the island sunk, with no memories of what happened. Fate brings them back together on Oceanic 815, and when they fly over the sunken island, it triggers those lost memories to appear for people once they find themselves in a certain deja-vu situation.

Why would they have no memories of what happened? That's where you lose me, there's no plausible explanation for that. Further, Charlie is dead, how is he magically alive again? So is the Fed that arrested Kate. Claire had her baby, is she pregnant a second time? It just doesn't add up.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to Claire in that scene. He saw a vision of his alternate existence, and he knew her and loved her.

Remember the episode "The Constant"? Desmond flashed back through time to when he was in the military, and had no memories of what happened to him on the island...when he flashed back to the present on the helicopter, he had no idea where he was or who the people that he was with were. Only when he established his Constant (Penny) did his memories begin to return. Maybe the passengers on 815 served as Constants for each other?

And Charlie is dead in 2004, but if there's a timeline reset prior to 2004, then Charlie would have been alive then. You need that same reasoning to explain why all of those people would be alive in a parallel timeline.

I realize my theory isn't perfect, but I haven't heard any better ones yet.

Yeah, that scene was a little confusing, but he described a blonde woman in his dream...that couldn't have been Kate.

What you're describing is an alternate timeline, not a time in the future. That's the only theory to me that makes sense. They've changed the course of events in the past and started an alternate timeline, but Widmore and his scientists have found a way to travel back and forth.

I don't know... it's always possible. Whatever Widmore is preparing to do may jolt people back and the flash sideways could become the future, or replace the present, or however you want to word it.

I wouldn't rule anything out at this point.

? I liked it.

Penny and Faraday were always half-siblings, nothing changed. Although I do find it strange that Penny exists if Charles and Eloise are married. Who did he have Penny with? Did he have an affair? Before he never married Eloise although they had a child together, and he fathered Penny on a trip off the island, which partially led to the mutiny against him. If he married Eloise though, I don't understand how Penny still exists unless he had an affair.
Well, Daniel and Penny are step-siblings, right? So I assume that means Penny is Widmore's daughter and Daniel is Eloise's son. I wonder if we'll find out who Penny's biological mother and Daniel's biological father are in either timeline. Confused

Wait, are Daniel and Penny step-siblings or half-siblings? Now I'm confusing myself. Embarrassment

Yep, I meant Claire and not Kate. The brain and hands weren't in sync so late at night (more like early in the morning). laugh out loud Sorry for the confusion. Embarrassment

Are the producers of "Lost" making up the plot as they go along? laugh out loud

Why do you think they've found a way to travel back and forth? I think Widmore just has more knowledge of what must be done in order to stop smokey Locke from leaving the island, which makes sense if he has an army of scientists working for him.
