The four-toed statue was of Taweret, the Egyptian goddess of birth, rebirth and the northern sky. A large engraving in the back of The Temple appeared to depict the Egyptian God Anubis and the Smoke Monster. So we could be looking at over 2500 years ago.
But I also figured Ben killed him to stop him from telling MIB everything he wanted to know.
Hopefully he used that as an example to show Locke that he'll kill other people. And maybe he's not really planning on it - he just really had some reasons to kill Widmore. Lying to Locke, maybe...
I felt like the episode wasn't really much by the end of it... felt like something was missing. It really didn't feel like a second-to-the-last kind of episode. :-/ Hmm.
Jack's taking up the mantle was somewhat predictable, but how could it be avoided? With the possible exception of Hurley, Jack is the only one who believes in his own redemption. Sawyer is resentful of Jack's station, and Kate is restraining him. I feel like I've seen that scene before.
I also wonder if Jack will make it through the finale in his new role. The exchange felt a little like the selection of the latest pope. Most of the speculation (indicated by the name he chose) was that he would be an intermediate, someone to hold the place for a short time until the next guy takes over.

Too much to wrap up. Lets see who is currently MIA and needs to be accounted for on Sunday: Miles ran off into the jungle, Desmond not in the well, Rose Bernard and Vincent the dog hiding since 1977, older taller Walt, and that Hanso guy who started Dharma needs to explain the food drops.
Don't even get me started on the alt timeline. I call Juliet for Jacks ex-wife.
I want to see an LA X spinoff where alt-Sawyer and alt-Miles are cops that solve crimes.
The two make an amazing team.
I wonder how Jacob came back to be seen by everyone and not just Hugo.
Island Ben is obviously evil and out for blood. But is sideways Ben a good guy?
Good to see Alex again.

The end approaches on 'Lost' [cnn.com]

Besides, I thought he couldn't die (immortal) or something like that per Jacob..right??

Hopefully he's still immortal. I'm thinking he is since he was trying to blow himself up with the dynamite - and failed.
Maybe he got up, saw what was happening, and ran off.

IRL the perp attempted to break into "Walt's" family's residence. Didn't actually get in the house.
Jack took over island, everyone else either dies or leaves on a boat. Jack kills ilocke, then he turns the wheel and sinks the island and ends up waking up somewhere like everyone else did when they turned the wheel..And the sideways time-line will be the reality now, and they will all live happily ever after..
Sounds boring, but I mean the writers already said people will be disappointed. I just don't see it going too deep or anything. I hope I'm wrong, and it's a lot more crazy then that.

I'm trying to prepare myself for the 4.5 hour finale. I have 8 hours of TV to watch on Sun. evening between ABC, FOX, and NBC!
2 of my fav. shows from the past several years are going to be over forever within ~24 hours of each other ("Lost" and "24").
