In 1978, when I was in college for pre-med (because it was the closest thing they offered to genetic biochemistry back then) everyone was all freaking scared outta their gourd after the movie "The Andromeda Strain" came out. Couple that with a few biological disasters, and all the good professors got much better-paying offers from the newly-forming genetic research (and later bio-engineering) firms. I was going to grow up to be an evil mad scientist that bred long-tailed hamsters and such (it's a Bloom County reference to Oliver Wendell Jones, in case you don't get the joke) until the educational system fell out from under me, I discovered how much I loved computers, and I met my soon-to-be ex-wife.

Only reason to have a fridge is mostly to keep the whole 32-pack of bottled water cold at once. Although I learned last year if you keep 2 bottles or less in the fridge, your roommate will buy their own
