Has anyone dealt with Staples rewards Theft??

Ok, so I have been turning in ink cartridges to staples for a while now, and have received rewards since February I believe, and I have never been able to use them except one. I usually waited til the last day before they expired and then they wouldnt work when using them online or in store they wouldnt work, so i just figured i missed my chance, and would try again next month (i know, not the smartest approach, but thats a different issue).

Anyway, since I kept having non-stop problems with my rewards, I just logged onto my account to check my status on rewards.. Well apparently, EVERY single one of my rewards was redeemed in New York by somebody buying external hard drives both times. One was in Staten Island and the other in Selden... The problem here is that I am from Indiana, and have never been to New York in my life.. Now I dont know if 'New York' shows up if you buy online, or if someone guessed my rewards account number, because I keep my computer clean and scan it constantly for everything, and have never posted any information anywhere.. I cant call the rewards people til Monday to figure this out.. Do you think they will credit me with any of these rewards, or am I screwed?

So has anyone else had this happen, or did i win the unlucky lottery again? lol

It sounds like someone else used it. As you said it is strange that they just stopped at 1 check instead of selling/using the subsequent ones.

Possibly stolen. I know you said that there is no order # associated with that Rewards voucher, but if your account also says "See Receipt" for that Rewards voucher, whoever used it did not do so in one transaction.

It may have been stolen five months ago, but try your luck. You just never know!

I'm way not happy.. I'm reading way to many of these posts.. Just finished sending staples a long email. Since a couple of months ago they issued me a $75.00 cash card.. When I went to use it at another staples a couple of moonths later they stated that the card I had was not even activated... WFT.. So after 3 weeks they finally found out that the card that they showed issed to me on my receipt was in fact used by another customer. (wink wink staples employee) who knows.. So now my rewards that I was going to use tomorrow to purchase a tablet are now gone.. They better do something about this.. There are transactions (receipt numbers on my account that show these locations and amounts).

Welcome to the club. Skip the email and call them directly. They will (should) send you replacement checks in the mail, close your old account and open a new account for you.
But it seems the new account numbers are just sequential (i.e. mine is xxx201, next is xxx202, etc.), so it makes subsequent thievery even easier. So from now on, better
use your checks as soon as they come out (or buy something small to get a balance coupon for the rest, which will have a new number).

No. You don't need any of such solutions. The only reason is that staples IT people are too incompetent to generate the secure reward codes.

Fire them all the problem will be easily solved by the new hires.

If you use current ink rewards to buy something small and get a balance coupon, can that be combined with the ink rewards in a future month ?

Thanks to the FAR software last month I made premier status and want to build up recycling rewards for a few months to buy a tablet. But I'm afraid after seeing the complaints on here about stolen rewards.

Yes, you can use the balance coupons online or in store in combination with other rewards/coupons.

I can say this is a epic issue with Staples. I had one check stolen last year when I went to use it by someone in NY. I am in MO. I called the re-issued a check via mail.

Then I went to use a check a few months later and this time someone in FL used my check and bought ink cartridges.... again they admitted someone hacked me and sent me a replacement check in the mail

Now I go tonight to use the check which has about 2 weeks to expiration and the check is "already used". I have not used the check as I live 2 hrs from a local staples and I would have record of it online w/ an order. I then log into my rewards account and my Feb check is "redeemed" with no history yet and I suspect stolen as well.

I have a march reward, I'm guessing that it's probably going to be stolen as well. Staples program is a gigantic failure of brand loyalty. I don't see any issues like this with the others in its class. I'm amazed that here I am trying to do business with them and trying to buy goods then they have these issues which leaves me not buying and pissed off w/ them.

I've sent emails we'll see where this goes. I think they better get a grasp of it because it looks like I've been ripped off for a 3rd time and it's getting real old.

Sorry to hear that. Did they change your account # each time though? If they did not, it is ever so easy to keep stealing your Rewards once it's been compromised. You are better off calling and complaining. Maybe even try the Staples Office of the President: 1-800-338-0252.

You know, I may have some insight into why this is happening. Has anyone ever thought about the possibility of somebody going to a staples store, taking a bunch of rewards brochures that are brand new, recording the rewards numbers off them, and then re-distributing them in stores for the next unsuspecting customer to pick up and start using? I know its a long shot, but I heard about criminals on the news doing this with gift cards at wal-mart etc. Things that make you go hmmmmm. wave

My 3rd account in last 7 months got compromised!!! This month's rewards just came out,tried to use today,didn't work so store manager called online cs and told me that it was used yesterday,they don't even have a record where it was used. Gotta call rewards customer service on Monday.

Add me to the list of people getting bamboozled..

My $20 ink rewards from the month of Feb has been spent by someone in Springfield, NJ.

It was on Item #917847 Canon MX882 Wireless AIO $199.99 minus $92.50 in Coupons for a total of $107.49...

They must have stole from some others to get that coupone amont..

I guess all you can do is spend them when you get them. Mad
