Has anyone dealt with Staples rewards Theft??

205 28 July 17, 2010 at 12:02 PM in Question
Ok, so I have been turning in ink cartridges to staples for a while now, and have received rewards since February I believe, and I have never been able to use them except one. I usually waited til the last day before they expired and then they wouldnt work when using them online or in store they wouldnt work, so i just figured i missed my chance, and would try again next month (i know, not the smartest approach, but thats a different issue).

Anyway, since I kept having non-stop problems with my rewards, I just logged onto my account to check my status on rewards.. Well apparently, EVERY single one of my rewards was redeemed in New York by somebody buying external hard drives both times. One was in Staten Island and the other in Selden... The problem here is that I am from Indiana, and have never been to New York in my life.. Now I dont know if 'New York' shows up if you buy online, or if someone guessed my rewards account number, because I keep my computer clean and scan it constantly for everything, and have never posted any information anywhere.. I cant call the rewards people til Monday to figure this out.. Do you think they will credit me with any of these rewards, or am I screwed?

So has anyone else had this happen, or did i win the unlucky lottery again? lol

when did they send out the memo? my last br coupon I used last friday and stacked the 25/75 banner coupon without any issues. haven't tried any from phone since but there is really other coupon worth using right now.

Some time last week AFAIK. It really is YMMV on the breakroom as some Staples are really poor in getting the message out to their employees. Which is good for us that still have one.

Go down to where it says "Pages that include matching images"

So this image was used on other sites as well before.

looking at source code of: http://www.halfcosttix.com/

it matches. so either someone did a copy and paste or they really got owned.

Someone on fw used TinEye to run a reverse image lookup and came up blank. Kudos to you for finding matching images. I had forgotten that you had to be a member and login in to order stolen rewards checks. Never a member so it was never obvious. Which makes that a BS statement about how they never sold stolen rewards checks.

ETA: http://www.dotweekly.com/ice-seizes-hundreds-more-domains-full-list/ lists halfpricemovieticket dot com as having been seized by DHS/ICE and it has the same banner page as does ccccpn. Interesting.

The amount of money they lose per day far outweighs zeroing out members balances. They have 0 overhead.

I'd bet the farm they got shut down. Since they are based in China, I'd also bet that another site w/o .com on the end is already in the works.

It's way to convenient though Staples changes their rewards numbers and they get shut down w/in days of each other. Seems like Staples was forced into some sort of compliance for action to be taken.

I personally hope they are back, minus stolen rewards of course. There I said it. 99 out of 100 of you also do. "But I bought my coupons on eBay, it's different". Where do you think they came from........ It's just like if you bought cocaine in the 1970's, it all came from 1 place. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0221027

Further, the affidavit alleges that between January 13, 2009 and May 15, 2012, over 102,553 transactions pertaining to the sale of fraudulent store and/or rewards coupons occurred on the three PayPal accounts seized.

Avg of $10 a transaction (my best guess as people usually spent $20 for no fee) is a $1million plus. WowzaEEK!

Sorry to hear about your experience, these thieves make me super mad. It all started with fake in store coupons and now fake/stolen rewards too.
If it is a delivery order Staples can definitely track who used it but Im not sure if they will put in the effort.
Bit of a hippocrit since your buying coupons to defraud staples dont you think.Wink

Intangible goods do not qualify for the buyer protection policy, but since the site was taken down by ICE, maybe you have a chance to get your money back.

Has anyone heard of the "new" rewards checks being stolen? I had mine stolen in May (the last of the "old" style rewards checks). I hope I don't have to spend them ASAP from now on.
