Obviously the jeweler will tell you that because he wants to make a sale

I bought the wife's engagement and wedding ring there. I can't speak for the other type of jewelry but the wedding and engagement rings are of very good quality. First, a diamond is a diamond is a diamond, well that is it is a diamond no matter who you buy it from. There are clearly different grades but the same certification you get from Costco you'll get from other places. Second, the platinum rings we got are of very good quality. Apparently the style I got is pretty much the most secure setting you can get.

I went through their "custom ordering program" which really means you tell them what you want and they see if they have one like it in stock somewhere in any of their stores.

A friend of mines Dad is a diamond broker so I went to him to see what he could do for me and I told him what I found. He said that even at his cost he couldn't give me a better deal unless I just wanted to get some of the diamonds he had in his safe that he hadn't been ablt to sell for awhile.

Decided to become the Executive member so I could get the 2% back. Had it appraised so I could get it insured and it came in a full two times what I paid for it. I tried to get the guy to knock it down as you have to pay a premium based on how much it's appraised at, not necessarily what you paid for it (stupid!), so in the end it cost me more to insure but whatever.

I asked my gf at the time to see how much the appraiser would buy it off of us for and he offered her a couple more grand than I paid. I tried to get her to sell it to him heh but that didn't go over well...

Here's an example of a ring that states Made in the USA
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Prod...BC&topnav=

My guess is that if the others don't than it's not made in the USA however Costco typically does have high quality expectations so I'm not sure if I'd worry about it.

I say give it a shot and if it ends up being a POS just exercise their excellent return policy Big Grin

thanks for the advice, i love their jewelry but if i were to buy something really expensive i would definitely have a jeweler look at it and appraise it. i've heard a lot of people purchasing engagement rings from costco so thats a good sign. costco has great clarity and color ratings but if you want a big diamond it would cost you an arm and leg. i'm more of a big rock than color and clarity kind of gal Big Grin either way, i just wanted a diamond band for my b-day, there was one i liked but it said made in china so that kind of threw me off. i'll check online for usa made jewelry. i can handle clothing and certain items to be made in china but not my jewelry, hahaha.

how does insuring a ring go about?? is it like paying insurance on your car type??

For jewelry that is outside any renter or homeowners policy limits you'd need to go and get it appraised (likely atleast $100). They will more than likely appraise it for more than you paid and you then give that to your insurance company and they put a rider on your insurance policy and charge you more to cover the ring. They just tacked the extra on to my normal insurance bill so I just pay it every 6 months.

I don't exactly know what you are looking to get but I think I got my wife this LINK [costco.com]

It's really nice and feels solid. It sucks they don't half size but she didn't need it anyways so whatever. I don't think we insured this as the cost to appraise and insure was kind of high when compared to the purchase price of the ring. Saved the receipt so hopefully if something ever does happen we can get it replaced...

Good luck!

thanks for the feedback. you learn something new everyday Cool

that band is really pretty, those diamonds look really big, its amazing its only half a carat. i definitely would save the receipt. if i get a band i have to have it resized, i'm a 8 and i can go to 8 and half. thats one thing i dont like about costco jewelry they dont give you options to choose your ring size. shake head

That jeweler was looking for a sale. Costco's jewelry is well made and their diamond quality is superior to many jewelers out there.
