Yeah, I know what you mean. The way the system works really kind of sucks for a kid just out of high school. You're at the mercy of your parents' income until you're 23.

To be honest, I'm glad I stopped going after my freshman year for a while. I didn't appreciate the experience, I had NO CLUE how to manage finances, and I had no clue what kind of monumental debt I was taking on in getting student loans.

Now that I'm going back several years later, I'm able to actually get the financial aid I need. (You know, since my parents had basically zero money for me to go to college with anyway.) Plus, I appreciate the privilege of a post-secondary education. It is a privilege to get to go to college. And when I'd just graduated high school, I didn't see it that way. I just saw it as another few years where I was stuck in school where I didn't want to be.

To make a long story short, don't force it. If you need to take more time to make up your mind, take it. Smilie

I agree. But I think that's a difficult concept to instill in a teenager. They're pretty hard-headed, and even if my parents had tried to teach me, I'm not sure I would have gotten the message as clearly as I did when I had to scrape by on my own, and there were times I didn't have two nickels to rub together. laugh out loud

I've still been busy! I just finished up with drill yesterday. The next few weeks are really hectic; I'm going on vacation next week (31 Jul), and then go straight back to drill, and the next three weeks after drill, I'm on active duty orders.

I'm sorry. Sadwalk

I wonder if I see less of this because I'm an engineering major? the vast majority of my friends have jobs in their fields and are working up their career paths. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do in college, but I generally knew it'd be something engineering, and it turned out that I really like civil engineering. I busted my tail in college, got good grades, and wound with a great job, I can't imagine having put it off, or doing anything else shake head

Yeah, during our land nav courses, it was over 100 degrees out and we were out for extended periods of time. During the rest breaks, we were allowed to take our "blouses" off. The tan T-shirt underneath does not cover the same surface area as my normal shirts, so I have these big red rings around my biceps. laugh out loud
