Is my kid crazy?

2,786 1,084 August 3, 2010 at 05:04 PM in Chat
I am at the end of my rope with my 4.5 year old's screaming, kicking, hitting temper tantrums. She's an only child and is so sweet most of the time but when she gets really mad, she's awful. Like head spinning, pea soup awful. I know that it is mostly (if not all) our fault and we need to change out behaviors, too. We aren't consistent and have been too "go with the flow." I try to reason with her but it clearly isn't working. Time out use to work somewhat when she was little but she's old enough to realize that I can't keep her there unless I were to physically force her. It has become a power struggle and I can tell she is doing things to push my buttons.

Is this normal for her age? Any suggestions for books? Does she need therapy? I think I do....

I personally don't care if you say crap to bad parents. I just think if its worth saying something for someone to hear then its worth saying to their face.

I agree with both of the things you said...that he was kinda dumb in general and probably coulda done a lot better too.

uggg dont even go there.... at 6 years old and with bad parenting this shouldnt even be considered.... in these types of situations drugs mask the problem. Parent first and foremost and if the problems persist then go on national tv ( super nanny, maury povich, etc) then if that doesnt work, then go to the doctor.....

Sorry, no relocation of it. I remember you saying something about aliases, and me misinterpreting it. Was that it?

I mentioned it because something traumatic could have happened to her and that is way she doesn't respect her parents? Counseling could also help but so could some quality time with mommy and daddy. There are so many things we do not know so we can not help her at all. At almost 5 years of age a child that goes to school should be able to voice there opinions and not throw tantrums. Get her to open up to what is bothering her if you are going to the store give her something to do a list with the groceries that she needs to get, let her pay, engage her in what you are doing. Play grocery store at the house. Set the rules before you leave the house this is what I except of you if you choose not to listen to me this are the consequences.

Yeah, it was the initial jab at what I said tho. Other people were a lot worse about it... basically saying that I would cause the girl to commit suicide or something. I don't remember all of it.

I did mention looking for behavioral issues if their efforts to change as parents don't bring about corresponding changes for their child.

6 years old is not too young for behavioral issues, and just because someone suggests such doesn't mean they are suggesting meds. It doesn't hurt to keep the possibility in their mind.

Well it was all true except the part of her being in the parking lot. She had checked out 2 people in front of us so she was long gone.
