Landers is considering a move towards the military, what do you think?

18,933 670 August 3, 2010 at 09:40 PM in Question
I'm looking at career path options and one is military, specifically Navy (Jokes allowed, go ahead Marines...). What do you guys think?

Thoughts on the military?

Thoughts on people you know joining the military?

Experiences you've seen in being with the military?

Nothing serious yet, just something in my mind still right now and trying to see/figure out what I want to do and how I want to do it.

If we're being technical then I think the intelligence quotient of an actual idiot is around 30 or 40.

My supposition would be a significant majority of military service people don't fall in that range.

When should I expect my check? Smilie

What's the IQ for an actual moron?
What about a fake idiot?

Don't avoid my question. You know I'm right. Thus his original sarcastic/trolling comment holds merit with the figurative idiot.

All of my relatives on the west coast went into the Navy or Air Force. They couldn't afford college so this was a great option.

Wechsler IQ Test Ratings of Idiocy

Wechsler IQ test ratings identify those as idiots who score less than 70 points in a WAIS session. However, different thresholds are applied to classify mental retardation in the following five levels.
1- Profound Idiocy

Wechsler IQ test results identify those as profound idiots who score 1-10 points in WAIS IQ test scale. They can't answer even a single question correctly out of 100000 items. They are viewed as suffering from profound mental retardation.

2- Severe Idiocy

Wechsler IQ tests classify those as suffering from severe mental retardation who score 11-25 points. They are considered severe idiots because they can't answer more than one question out of 100000 items.

3- Imbecility

Wechsler IQ test ratings identify those as imbeciles who suffer moderate mental retardation. They score 26-40 points on Wechsler scale. Their mental age is considered no more than a child of five years old. They can't answer more than three questions correctly, for an IQ test questionnaire of 100000 items.

4- Moron

Wechsler IQ test ratings identify those as morons who score 41-55 points on a Wechsler IQ test scale. Their mental development has stopped at the mental age of a child of 8-12 years old. They can answer less than 13 questions correctly for an IQ test questionnaire comprising of 10000 items.

5- Border Line

Wechsler IQ test ratings identify those on borderline who score 56-70 points on a Wechsler IQ test scale. They can't answer more than two questions correctly for an IQ test questionnaire of 100 items. They are better than morons but still don't qualify to be average.

I know you're just trolling, but technically wouldn't that be true?

If we compared the IQ of all the people who joined the military vs. all the people who did not, who are the same age and then compare the IQ of the same subset of people in 10 years, 20 years, 40 years... what would the outcome be?

I'd expect the people who did not join to have a higher IQ from the start, and possibly later in life as well Dontknow
I actually did a report on this for college research project last year. I think that is the stereotype, but it turned out to be untrue. I'll see if I can find it and my sources.

My ex was a doc for the Marines (which means he was technically in the Navy, but he trained with the Marines). He seemed to enjoy it and he got a lot of good training out of it. It kept him fit and he got good money for college.

My brother was on a nuclear submarine and he re-enlisted. He also enjoyed his time in the Navy and was able to use his GI bill for college, which was a boon. My brother served during wartime.

I think there's a lot of pride and learned discipline, plus life-skill that comes out of being in the military. If you're physically up for it, I say - Go for it!

I agree.

Look at all of the horror stories that been in the news about the women who are raped, soldiers that don't get any psychological help, vets who have been forgotten about and are now homeless and or addicted, etc.

edit: don't forget about Walter Reed and the Bonus Army
