Question
I'm looking at career path options and one is military, specifically Navy (Jokes allowed, go ahead Marines...). What do you guys think?
Thoughts on the military?
Thoughts on people you know joining the military?
Experiences you've seen in being with the military?
Nothing serious yet, just something in my mind still right now and trying to see/figure out what I want to do and how I want to do it.

Look at all of the horror stories that been in the news about the women who are raped, soldiers that don't get any psychological help, vets who have been forgotten about and are now homeless and or addicted, etc.
edit: don't forget about Walter Reed and the Bonus Army
Freedom isn't free. Any American should be ready to defend our country if needed, and not expect anything in return other than the knowledge that they have defended our freedom and preserved our way of life.
Most countries don't do ANYTHING for veterans. We do. As for the homeless vets that are forgotten about, I totally disagree with you. I spend 8 hours a day 5 days a week helping them get housing, food, clothing, jobs, medical care, you name it. The programs for vets are outstanding, but I doubt you really know anything about them. Be thankful we live in a country that does at least something for our vets. It could all change in a skinny minute with one war, one economic disaster. Be ready and willing to fight for your freedom without expecting anything in return, and be thankful when you do get something in return. And until you can see yourself doing either of those things, shut the fark up.

It's one of many options I have and I'm not sure what I'm going to do. If I do it, it'll be for me, my country, and my career afterward.
I think it would be good for me, but I'd like to have them pay me for school first and owe them years afterward if I can do something like that, specifically if I can get into a medical field with them.
idk yet and don't know how things work, but I'm thinking about talking to a recruiter about it and we'll see what I decide to do.

But you can do better than that.

For an old wrinkly
sausageidiot my previous guess was pretty close! You also are a guy's guy. I think you will enjoy the physical and mental demands. You will probably feel a great sense of pride and belongingness that will push you to do your best.
You have a sense of honor that I think would fit in well in the military. These are just thoughts from what I've gathered.
So don't count on just being at home while serving in the CG.
