Hot Toys for Christmas 2010: Predictions

What do you think will be the hot toy for 2010.

I'm leaning towards mighty beanz right now. My son is a huge Star Wars fan and is crazy about them. They not only do Star Wars, but Marvel Super Heros and they also have a normal line for the younger kids. I like how cheap they are. Only $5 for a package of them.

I know from my experience with Gamestop, it wasn't available online all the time. Nintendo has a nice way of being an asshole and creating their own self-imposed shortages. It's like they enjoy the hype.

After Christmas, it was literally impossible for find a Wii around here for 2-3 months. Come to think of it, same with PS3.

I'm not saying Buffalo is a huge city or anything, but we don't get neglected for things either.

Bringing it back around on topic.

What else is out there? Dance Star Mickey is surprisingly hot online looking at the stock history.

They don't get sold out online, and they especially don't get sold out at huge retailers. For example I always know I can find video games at TRU in Times Square, because they get massive shipments of everything. It's pretty rare for video games to sellout at all nearby retailers, what city did you work in? I'm guessing a small one?
Super Mario Bros. for Wii was sold out for a short period in my area. The prices on ebay were going for $60 plus. There was little to no profit unless it was purchased at a discount. (buy 2 get 1 free, etc.). Zelda was also sold out for a while when the Wii first came out. Mario Kart and Wii Play were sold out everywhere as well. Wii Fit with balance board was highly profitable for a long period of time. I realize that the last three examples came with accessories making them more difficult to produce. The Nintendo store in your area had Wii consoles for sale during peak demand periods everyday. Your area doesn't provide a good comparison for the rest of the country.

Well I went to TRU TS to get the hardware, I understand it's atypical to have an outlet that literally gets thousands of units. But in terms of software, I can get pretty much any game at the numerous outlets throughout Queens or LI. I got Super Mario at Best Buy back when I had a Wii. Gamestop was sold out, but Best Buy wasn't. I suspect if BB was, I'd have found it at Target, or BJs, or any of many outlets.

Ok, Ok, the point is that anything that is easily reproducible like video games do not get hot because there are ample amounts of them. The hot item is always the thing that catches you with your pants down, something not easily reproducible that the manufacturers didn't make enough of. That's why things like video games,Squinkies, silly bandz, pillow pets maybe even mighty beanz will not be hot because they are easily made, and readily available.nod
so...... moving on. Maybe there is something we don't yet know about yet that is yet to rear its ugly (or cute) little head. we will see next month probably.

I mean, I'm just saying that really popular video games, most specifically Wii games, can and do sell out in certain geographical areas.

All the frantic parents coming in looking for the New Super Mario Bros last holiday season will tell you they could not find it in stores anywhere where I live. Which is not in the boonies.

It doesn't happen often but small toys can be profitable. 2 years ago I made a lot of money off of Bakugan starter packs.

I'm interested to see what it's going to be this year. I made a promise to my wife that I'm going to skip reselling toys this year because she really hated driving around to the different stores. I do it because it's fun, she doesn't really think so. lol. I made a killing a few years back with the wii fits. Nothing like that this year, I think. People are pretty much over the wii, it's time for a new console to come out. Early indications say squinkies, zoobles, and sing-a-ma-jigs. The dancing Mickey Mouse and the Gorilla seems interesting but might be a bit too much for a lot of parents in this down economy. I have a sleeper in mind but don't want to give it up yet. I might not resell this year but that doesn't stop me from doing some research! Good luck to all this year!!
