Hot Toys for Christmas 2010: Predictions

383 33 September 11, 2010 at 11:46 AM in Chat (2)
What do you think will be the hot toy for 2010.

I'm leaning towards mighty beanz right now. My son is a huge Star Wars fan and is crazy about them. They not only do Star Wars, but Marvel Super Heros and they also have a normal line for the younger kids. I like how cheap they are. Only $5 for a package of them.

I'm interested to see what it's going to be this year. I made a promise to my wife that I'm going to skip reselling toys this year because she really hated driving around to the different stores. I do it because it's fun, she doesn't really think so. lol. I made a killing a few years back with the wii fits. Nothing like that this year, I think. People are pretty much over the wii, it's time for a new console to come out. Early indications say squinkies, zoobles, and sing-a-ma-jigs. The dancing Mickey Mouse and the Gorilla seems interesting but might be a bit too much for a lot of parents in this down economy. I have a sleeper in mind but don't want to give it up yet. I might not resell this year but that doesn't stop me from doing some research! Good luck to all this year!!

I agree, it's fun. I stay home with my kids so it's nice to be able to make a little money to spend at Christmas time on my kids. I haven't figured out what the hot thing to stock up on is yet. although they have talked about sing a ma jigs on the today show for the last 3 days. I sold 3 big foots last week for a very small profit and they cost a lot to ship. they weigh 8 lbs so even shipping ups from a business account was almost $10 each. Those were a pain to ship...I don't think I'll do that again.

It doesn't happen often but small toys can be profitable. 2 years ago I made a lot of money off of Bakugan starter packs.
Bakugan --- uggghh...My kids still like those things.

I've heard of heavy metal Bakugans, but those have been around for a while.

I'll keep my eye out!

I'll never ship anything big again! I sold the Little Einstein's Rockets a few years back and had to ship those things, and they were not worth it!! Trying to find a box to fit it in and then having to pack it so nothing breaks was a big hassle. In the end, I made very little profit to make it worth my time.

For those interested in Calico Critters...have you seen Hideaway Hollow at Kohls? It is similar and much cheaper. There are 11 different sets. They are made by Fisher-Price and are a Kohls exclusive. Very cute and combined with a 30% off coupon, is a pretty good deal. They are also on sale now.

Just from my trip to the toystore the other day: there is no real demand for anything right now. Nothing good to stock up on. If you do, it is a big gamble

I stocked up on a few things that were discussed in here. If none of them are profitable I'll just return them. All I'd lose is some gas money.

Yeah, its just so darn embarrassing especially if you overbought, and are returning a lot. I still remember having to return like 20 tmx elmos and just seeing everyones reaction. I wanted to crawl under a rock. Plus if u lose the reciept, it is a nightmare. I just think the economy kicked everyones butts this year, so I hear a lot of people telling their kids, no, we can't afford it. And, if there are more resellers than buyers, it really makes selling impossible. Right now that is definitely the case. Even the big retailers are fightiing a fierce battle for customers. That makes reselling tough, especially when toys r us and the like pledge to keep hot toys in stock.

I don't embarrass easily. I had to return a bunch of those Elmos too. I didn't give a damn about other peoples' reactions.

I know that none of the stuff out this year is a sure thing but if something turns out to be profitable and I don't have any that would make me feel pretty stupid.

I have stocked up on a few things too and am wondering if its time to bail...but I guess I will hold out a few more weeks anyways. Seems like demand should be going up for something soon as people start shopping more.

I bought a few of what was mentioned here too. seeing as they are in stock in most stores, I'd say they are a bust. As long as they stay in stock, there will not be any demand. The stores are carrying larger amounts of everything this year. It's not like the past years where they were afraid to carry more items. All the economic forecasts are saying that people will spend slightly more this year, so retailers are betting on that and carrying mre stock. I am not going to take a chance, and I think I'll start returning some stuff now, as to not get stuck with a lot later on. Honestly, I hate to play devil's advocate, bu it doesn't look so good.

Did anyone else get the Toys R Us big toy book?
I took one from my local store yesterday morning, although there was no display for it. The ad starts on Halloween. Big Grin
