Oh, wow, you can bake the cupcakes in the little cones and it doesn't burn the cones?

I'm soooo gonna make those this year for a class party.

I need to get my hot glue gun so I can make some bows. My fave time of year is Fall.

I have never, and I mean never, taken the time to buy personalized stuff for the kids. I know, it's a failing. Since we're going to the Day out with Thomas, and it's (the day after) monkey toddler's birthday, I was thinking of ordering him a birthday shirt. What does everyone think? I have a generic "It's My Birthday" shirt I bought at Gymboree last year but I thought this might be cuter.

Sorry it took me so long to catch up y'all - we did our first flea market today Wacko

Quote from myluvjustice :
So jamie and rachael I am right there with you! I generally hate people , I have no friends currently. I got my dh and our 2 kids and that's it.I was never in the "in crowd" I'm not a outgoing bubbly person at all, I like alone most of the time. It would be nice to have someone to shop with me and sis would be, but we are so far apart now, she is an okie I'm unfortunately here in vegas.

As for dh I do everything he is pretty lazy and kids are starting to be too. I could say nmore but I don't feel like writing a novel.
I am lol'ing at your lazy kids and husband, I am on constant patrol against that here and fighting a losing battle.

Also, because it got so taken out of context by screamer duncan squealer, the lament was that it's hard to find like-minded people IRL and that leads us to the conclusion that our real friends are here b/c shopping is a large part of most of our lives. That is not to say that people don't like us it is to say however, that b/c of stupidity and general tackiness, we do not, in turn, care much for them. Big Grin

MLJ - you are in good company.

LOL - you're the only one that can see that. It's not like the Scarlet Letter or anything laugh out loud Comfort

Well... I am enjoying this baby. Smilie My toddler is overjoyed and having a ball - almost too much. *laugh* And the dog apparently has decided the baby is important - if she starts to make funny noises and I don't get up right away, the dog will come over to me and bark at me!
LOL - how cute!!

Quote from .teri. :
How dare anyone make a joke. These lurkers have families to feed and they rely on the regulars to do it for them. How dare anyone come in and upset their neat little system of leeching off others. The nerve!
Oh my word you just hit the nail on the head.

Quote from bblueskye :

So so true.

Quote from mamaoftwins2 :
Where do you find those tablets..I swear I keep going round and round in the stationary aisle and BTS section and never find anything...
I found the ones I used at Staples. They also had a cute little dry erase w/flip book attached kind of thing that let them practice upper and lower case letters one at a time. Both older kids used it - heck, I think I still have it for the next 2, too.

Quote from Bargainscout :
Now there seems to be more of this attitude:

"Can someone tell me what all the deals are? I am so busy and important that I don't have time to, nor should I have to, read the thread. And, give me the information within 15 minutes because I am on my way to T. "

And then when they don't get an immediate answer they whine that no one has answered.

As for the cupcakes, I attached a pic of them yummy We are having the pot luck for the guy on our team who is always the comedian. Even when he's in a bad mood, he's funny. Walks around singing (very badly and loudly) Taylor Swift or Alabama, or almost anything. The cupcakes are one of his favorite things I have brought in the past, so I thought I would make them for him again.

The cones are a little chewy, but not too bad. Maybe because of the way I make them. I take a "foil sheet" (sheets of aluminum foil, I get a box of 500 at the warehouse club, and it lasts me about 6 years), put the cone in the middle of it, then smush it down into the cupcake pan, so the cone stands upright, and doesn't fall over easily. I cleaned out spilled, burnt cake batter out of my oven too many times before learning that little trick.

Even with making home-made buttercream icing and piping it on, the biggest PIA is making the holder and transporting. The holders are just boxes, with little holes cut out with a razor knife, then $1 store foil tissue paper (in the gift wrap section), so it looks nice. I try to keep one (or two) around, but sometimes the kid's teachers throw them away.

In case anyone is going to ask, the "cherry" on top is a cherry sour ball. I found them at Kroger in the cheap candy. Target doesn't have them.
Mandy, can you make an MPP of those and ship 'em to my house please? :-)

Thanks for the anniversary wishes!
His shirt will say, yippee I'm 3. Not as cute as choo choo I'm 2 but we can't go back a year can we. Frown

I found a neat dry erase set at Target for about $6. Made by Board Dudes, like the one linked below except no Disney characters. It's in the aisle with other dry erase and Color Wonder stuff.

I know that Walmart has the tablets of kid lined paper in BTS. MIL gets them for her Kinder class every year from there. Also, on San Jose, down by you there is a store called School Aids - has lots of teacher supplies. A little pricey, but some neat stuff. I found some great little workbooks at the dollar store. They had alphabet, math, phonics, basic skills, etc. All Disney themed.

Quote from LongTimeLurker7 :
They are in the Crayola aisle, in the middle or bottom. There is a little stretch of sketch pads, drawing paper, and construction paper, it's mixed in there. It's like the Kleenex Hand Towels, if you aren't looking for them, you will miss them!

You can get pre-k books and stuff like that at T and other places. They usually have ones that teach writing letters.

As for letters, and learning in general, I would HIGHLY recommend getting the Leap Frog Letter Factory. My two youngest kids watched this over and over, and by 2, knew all their letters and what sounds they made. I never learned to read by phonics, so it was great that my kids were learning to read that way. There are other videos that expand the learning, but the Letter Factory is the best one to start with. Both kids are avid readers now, and my 7-year-old was reading at a 4th grade level in 1st grade. I attribute a lot of that to those videos (well, that and spending summer before last in our sign shop we had with no tv, video games, ect.. only the Public Library close by. She read a 100 books that June-July, just so she could go to the Magic Show they had at the end of summer.)

As for the cupcakes, I attached a pic of them yummy We are having the pot luck for the guy on our team who is always the comedian. Even when he's in a bad mood, he's funny. I'm totally making these for the kids' carnival birthday party. I've done 2 test runs so far and they've turned out really good. I found cherry sour balls at my ST in the bulk candy section. Also, I read a think online when I was doing research for them where someone got empty pizza boxes and cut holes in them for transportation. Yours look awesome. Great job! I'll have to post mine when I get a sec.

And I totally agree about the Leap Frog letter factory DVD. DS loves it and now makes lots of the sounds of the letters and I'm sure it's from watching that DVD. Oh, and T carries the Leap Frog DVDs. Wink

Eekkkk!! Our laundry room is in the basement also but we haven't had a snake... yet. Did have some lizards lurking at the bottom of the stairs one day. Just the thought of a snake in the house makes me shiver.

Oooh let me second this - I didn't really understand your directions so I will have to go back and read - but I remember thinking that you were a lifesaver! THANKS!!!!!!

Quote from mamaoftwins2 :
Important question - What do I need to buy to teach the kids how to write...I mean apart from pencils...

I am craving Chipotle today..Is Taco Bell better than Chipotle..( I have never had Taco Bell)

For the writing - it depends on the level .... but here are some tips.

1) Have your kiddos "write" with their pointer fingers with paint on paper (making capital and/or lowercase letters) as if their fingers are their pencils.

2) Have them make those same letters using their pointer finger in sand (put a layer of sad on a cookie tray with sides to hold the sand in) and when they finish you can gently sake the sand and they can make the next letter.

3) Using playdough - have them roll thin snake-like pieces and help them make their capital letters out of the playdough - if you have pictures of the letters (or have written it) they replicate it.

4) Paint their letters using paint brushes - again they are using many of the same muscles that need to develop/strengthen to have good coordination with pencils & achieve good penmanship.

----- These kind of things reinforce their knowledge of their letters & you can say the letter sounds as they are making them helping to reinforce the phonic sounds for them.

4) Get pencils that are regular sized with those soft smushy holders that you put at the end of the pencil (helps them with their grip.) There are those who now say that the super chubby pencils are not beneficial ... I think it is a matter of taste. I think that a regular pencil with the pencil holder when they put their fingers is best.

5) You can get the lined/dotted learn to write paper at several places. Target has it in the stationary section near the construction paper, crayola wonder stuff etc. That paper actually has embossed paper ... so that your child can feel the lines and can feel the letters with their fingers on the paper. As your child is starting to print these grooves/indentations may actually help guide their writing. There are also directional arrows to help keep them making letters in the correct fashion. A lot of learning to write properly is repetition so have them use this as a tool where the shape is correct might be good. I have not tried these books as I only just located them but they look neat. Stores such as Staples also have writing paper - with lines of various widths. They have very wide lines for beginners and I think that the tablets with 100 sheets were about $2.49. They also carry first grade tablets and then second grade tablets (each with about 100 pages apiece & about $2.49 each) with lines that progressively become more narrow as your child's control over the pencil/mastery of writing improves.

HTH - prob more info that you were looking for.

As far as Toxic - their food is really sub-par!!! Try Q'doba Smilie

Oh I am hoping you won't mind a quick PM from me to compare notes.

At my house whining leads to time-outs ... no joke ... but then yup I am that mean.

Quote from squealer1234 :
Cyberbullying ...... There WAS distress for some!

You in particular DEC12Girl. I have read many of your posts that are kind and thoughtful. I can tell you are very loyal.

I assure you I meant what I said. I have small children of my own and would hate to think someone would wish ill on my kids to spite me.

Good luck and God bless!
Thank you for the compliment - I really do care about people and there is nothing better that when people get good news, super life-happenings, and/or fantastic deals Smilie

Look - I am sorry that don't know you by name and I do not personally have issue with you. I take issue with some of what is said and let me explain. If one starts from the premise that one must not say things which cause distress for some then this board shold close down entirely. Regardless of the thread, topic, or poster --- somewhere along the line distress can/will be caused. I do not believe in presenting an unrealistic view of the world to my children & I won't for adults online ... the world is not a perpetual garden of sunshine & roses. There is good & bad and there will be people/jokes/things which we like & those which we do not. Deal with it or remove yourself from the situation -

I have been a single teen parent of two children - I understand food stamps - food banks - shopping at garage sales & goodwill ---- I understand having to look at your children and explain that you will be eating PB&J because that is ALL THAT YOU HAVE! I understand working 2 jobs at once -- I understand having an abusive partner and leaving so that the children do not learn that is ok EVER ... I understand being one person and feeling overwhelmed but you struggle on ... I get it. I do not wish anyone ill - I only wish them well & I can tell you that my thoughts & prayers go out to those who are in trouble .... I hope that things improve and that they get to a point where the struggles in life are different (struggles in life are never gone ... they just change Smilie ) If I had a magic wand I would love to help everyone in need - I hate hate hate seeing others suffering - but life just doesn't work that way. I help those I can wherever I can ---- but that doesn't diminish the importance of being able to laugh (at onself/difficulties/disagreements/life iteself.)

I rely on coupons myself - I have had twinges of worry about what will happen if they disappear - it will be very difficult - but like millions of others I will figure out a way to get by. That is what we as humans do - we adapt or we die.

I don't think that anyone was being mean - they were merely making a joke - and my original post stands ... either the rumor is true and the coupons disappear or it isn't and they don't. Either way people will use coupons until they can not. If you want to post that it was a joke for those who do not wish to figure it out for themselves that is absolutely your right ... but I think your response which could certainly be construed as haughty indignation in the guise of defending the weak, timid, and mentally challenged rubs some the wrong way ... I would think you might expect that (especially in light of the fact that you say that you have been around a long time.)

I totally agree about not wishing ill towards someone's children - I wish only good thoughts to yours!! Smilie I hope that things settle out and we all find some super cool deals Smilie

If you have a Shopko in your area they have the dry erase boards with kindergarten lines packaged together with 5 washable dry erase Expo thin markers for $3.88 ... if you printed up the expo coupon you could get the board with the 5 markers for $2.88.

Quote from coupon*clipper :
Bake the cupcakes the regular way, in the cupcake tin. No worries about cones tipping over. Once cooled, smear a little frosting on the top (round) part of the cupcake, then stick that onto the cone. So now you have the flat (bottom) part of the cupcake on top. Wait, I know, at this point every tells me, "but then your ice cream looks flat!." Trust me, it never does. Once you apply the frosting on the top and sides, it magically looks like a round scoop of ice cream, no idea how, but it does. lol.
Thanks for the alternative plan ... I might have to make both and eat them just to test them laugh out loud You know to ascertain which one is better .... and it might take several batches to get accurate results!

OK, dh came home and did his manly caveman thing, lol. The critter was still under the box lid, thank goodness. It was little, no longer than 7 or 8 inches, but def a snake, based on the triangular head and tapered tail.

Then of course, dh HAS to tell me that based on the size, he thinks it's a baby snake, which can only mean.........LALALALALALALA..........
