My grandma gave me a green sweater with birds ironed onto it. Around the birds was glitter.
I was afraid to wear it for fear I'd get shot.
All names have been changed to protect the innocent.
As I opened MIL's gift, in front of dozens of people, at my bridal shower, I admit, I thought "how lame". It was a skillet-type thing for browning foods in the microwave.
Take everything home, showing the gifts to dh, and point out "here's the gift from your mom." We open the box, and out falls a Christmas-looking "to/from" tag that says "To Mom, From Herbert and Mildred."
Yup, my bridal shower gift from MIL was a re-gift. From her other son, and his previous girlfriend. Ten years previous.

I've always been independent, but my need to be independent has gotten worse from my MIL. She is the MOST dependent person I know. She (literally, not an exaggeration) stays in bed all day watching tv, only getting out to use the bathroom.
Part of my extensive testing I had was a lumbar puncture. It was painful and I even passed out during it (and I was sitting up!) For 3 days I couldn't get out of bed, I was vomiting from the pain (think EXTREME migraine) from the spinal pressure loss, could barely open my eyes. Even though my MIL lives downstairs, my 5 & 6 year old had to stay home from school to take care of me (DH had some meetings he couldn't miss). Not only that, but the 3rd day, the kids finally went to school, but I was still vomiting and in severe pain (I just couldn't make the kids stay home and take care of me any more). The first day the doctor had prescribed me some pain medication, and our wonderful Target pharmacist had one of the techs drive it to my house and deliver it for me (and we live 20 mins from T). When I wasn't better on the 3rd day, the doctor prescribed some Demerol, but since it's a very controlled medication, the prescription had to be physically picked up and filled, it couldn't be called in.
My MIL wouldn't even go get it for me (and I do all of her shopping, and everything else). I had to get the kids and drive there, then to Target, myself. I'm surprised I lived thru that day! Not only that, but she asked me to run thru Church's and get her some chicken, since I was going to town anyways!
And sadly, my step-daughter (who is 19), is not any better. Everything is about her, and she can't be bothered with matters of other people!
This was a year ago and it still makes me really mad!
As I said, never had a tick, never had the bullseyse rash.
Ank I will be praying for your little girl. I have a 3 month old and he lost weight when he was first born. My wife was exclusively breastfeeding. He was 6 pounds 1 ounce and weighs almost 11 pounds now.
My absolute worst gift, more of the occasion, not necessarily the gift, was my ex-husband when we were first dating. We had been dating for a few months, I was 16 and he was 18, and he gave me luggage? Not even good luggage, cheap crap. There was no, "hey, we're going on a trip" surprise, he just got me luggage
Otherwise, my (current) DH is pretty horrible at gift giving. Last Christmas I gave him a specific list of small things I wanted. So what do I get? Knives (he's always complaining we don't have any good ones, we do, he just doesn't use the good ones), a large cutting board (again, something he always complains about not having, though we do, he just doesn't realize it), and some "costume" jewelry (which I don't wear jewelry either). Unless I get my own gifts, I always get crap that he wants.
It's just like The Middle Mother's Day show. I am very thoughtful - the mom goes thru all these hoops to get a piece of the basketball court of his favorite team, and the husband runs the kids (on Mother's Day) to the drug store and gets her an inflatable foot bath.
OMG fun times trying to see if the Christmas Floozy had on underwear

I almost bought myself an inflatable foot bath not too long ago...

They think I'm a meth addict. I don't do drugs. I'm exhausted. I'll come back later to post. Nothing worse than the entire world thinking you're a drug addict nutjob. Something is effin wrong with me but noone knows what.
Jamie and Ank....prayers are coming your way
The WP is my new favorite store. The Stateline store SUCKS now...used to be my favorite.
I have my own headache this evening, my seven year old hates doing homework. She just started second grade last week and she is saying math is too hard, reading is too hard, etc. She was like this last year but I was hoping she would outgrow it. She is very smart, just not motivated. I hate to say it but she has inherited her daddy's lazy gene. Anyone have ideas to motivate her and make homework not such a chore?
I was driving to surprise my mom, had my two oldest with me. I stopped and got a 5 hour energy drink cause, well, I'm addicted. It was my third that day. I had taken all 3 within about 4 hours or so. I had to pull over because I got dizzy. But it didn't get better and I started to shake. Thought maybe it was a sugar issue so I drank some coke, made it worse. Drank some kool-aid (only other thing I had in the car) and it didn't help. I had eaten 2 pieces of toast early that morning but figured I'd eat something else. DS had half a peanut butter cookie left so I ate it. Went to drive again and felt REALLY sick. So I turned around thinking I'd just drive back home. It got really bad so I pulled into a Valero that had a restaurant attached. They had me sit in there and gave the kiddo's something to drink to occupy them and I got really confused. I didn't really understand who I was or where I was. They called 911.
How embarassing.
So the EMT guys get there and I am freezing cold, shaking like a leaf, nauseated, can't catch my breath, dizzy, feel like I'm going to pass out or have a seizure, and my speech is slurred. They check my blood sugar and it was 84. Blood pressure was a little high but I was also in distress. My O2 was fine at 99%. Took me and the kids in the waaambulance to some hospital 10 miles away. This entire time I'm still having these episodes. After 3 tries they get an IV in and get fluids going but I still feel like shit.
My heart beat would go from 105 down to 70 and then jump back up, then fall down. They did an EKG but it was normal. All my labs were normal. My blood sugar at the hospital was in the 120's. They said the only explanation they could come up with is caffeine overdose. They gave me a xanax to counteract the anxiety part of it and sent me home.
That was saturday and I am still so dizzy I can't drive. I still feel short of breath at times. I have a hard time talking because I get confused or studder.
I don't know what the hell is wrong with me. I don't have a doctor and can't really afford to have one. *sigh*
drama..drama
Ank - I hope all goes well w/ Mavis.
I'm meaner...
Snuggling/bfing... yup, that's us!
Okie dokie - now for a real health update on Mavis... she left the hospital weighing 8lbs 7 oz, and still weighed that much today ..... He also added a spinal ultrasound to her kidney ultrasound on 9/13.
LOL - I doubt that you are meaner than am I .... just ask my kiddos! LOL And snuggling is the BESTEST!!!!!!
On Mavis - a couple of things - because you are BFing I think you are doing amazingly well! MOST babies who BF lose weight for the first couple of weeks or so and it can take a good couple of weeks to get back up to their birth weight! The fact that Mavis is already there is FANTASTIC! Don't let your doc scare you ---- it is true that Formula Fed babies gain weight faster ... but if you can BF (note my jealousy) then absolutely do it ... it is better for you & the baby!!! As far as the spine/kidney thing I will be sending P & PT!!! My lil Miss G had kidney problems for the first year --- but they got better --- we had to do the U/S and LOTS of antibiotics and there were even hosp stays ... but looking at my chubby little penguin who just turned 2 you would never know. They have amazing healing abilities I think! You are in my thoughts & give her snuggles & kisses for me!!!! I miss holding a newborn! HUGS HUGS HUGS HUGS HUGS HUGS HUGS HUGS HUGS

And speaking of growing (or lack thereof) my dd shot up at least a 1/2 in. if not a little more just in the past MONTH!
I made batch #2 of blueberry jam from 7 pts. of berries I got at T. last week....went a little gung-ho after finding that dd could tolerate them at least somewhat. 22 jars later.....I need to make room in my freezer - which is ummmm pretty much full already. And I still have about 6 lbs. of peaches to make jam or puree or something out of. We shouldn't need jam for a year! Can't wait for homemade biscuits and jam
