Teri, I like your colors...My house is completely WHITE everywhere.. I do not have any furniture yet. Did you have your furniture first or did you paint your walls first. I was thinking I wanted to get my furniture first. My house looks very sterile right now...

Has anyone painted their kitchen countertops before? My house was bought through a program. It was a forclosure, (someone's lost, my gain) so they redid EVERYTHING, and they put this ugly seafoam green countertops in the kitchen.. It must be what was donated to them or must have been the cheapest at the warehouse. Its also in the bathrooms...I cant complain though. This 4br/2ba is cheaper than my 1bdrm apt.. so I will live with the ugly.. lol
I had my furniture first. It's the house that Target and Craigslist decorated Roll

See that buffet in the nook? Target. TV stand and TV? Target. Sofa and Loveseat, Craigslist. Seagrass rug, Cragislist...

And...see that rug under the table in the nook? Target from the Garden department. It's a patio rug but when I saw it I knew it would go well in the nook and not get dirty very easily.

You can paint your counter tops but I think there is a way you have to do it so that they hold up. If it's new even though it's seafoam I would just decorate around the color instead of painting over it. Find some color scheme to coordinate with the seafoam. Off hand I would think of browns (of course laugh out loud).

I've got to figure out what to do with that white beam thing before I replace any doors. I hate it Annoyed

I looked online at the special paint you can use, but I wanted to ask someone personally who has done it. I read the reviews.. Its seems pretty easy. They have some that make your counters look like granite... Im into fancy without the fancy price...I dont mind faux.. Its an open floor plan, so that seafoam would have to be incorporated throughout the livingroom and dining room.. I would rather spend 70 bucks on a can of paint...

My counter top in the master bedroom has been repainted and it has held up very well, but I don't think it gets the use a kitchen counter would.

I like the idea of using bamboo shades or even rigging something with a seagrass rug converted into a roman shade thing. Course that wouldn't work too well getting in and out of the door if you were too tall, as a roman shade needs some space at the top for the folding material.

I think I'll go Hide

I live by myself and the house is still a wreck. There's no furniture in the dining room, but it is full (of Target bags, of Walgreens bags, of Publix bags, etc), and a humongous box that my SILs Christmas present was delivered in (2008 Christmas!). The box is full of peanuts, but too big to go in the trashcan, so it still sits where I literally drug it in the house from the FED EX delivery. I hate to throw the peanuts in the landfill. . . I've already set up shoe boxes for stockings for the kiddos (nieces and nephews) in the same room.
We had a lady who cleaned for us when I was growing up, who came on Mondays. Maybe that's why I don't do cleaning, I'm used to someone else doing it. I do have plenty of cleaning supplies though, ironically Hide

Now I'm depressed . . . Let's see if the dishwasher still works, since it's been at least 3 weeks since it was run.

Post edit: Dishwasher on prewash. . . Calm down all you neatniks. I use the same coffee cup for 2 weeks and the ice tea glass for longer than that (as long as I don't have a cold) and I have 4 gallon pitchers for tea...It's just me and a cat (a dog would die for sure). I wash 3 loads of clothes a week, one colors, one whites, one towels and sheets. I've got more Tide than anyone who is single should, even with carrying 10+ jugs to the SIL.

yes. which is why I haven't had a yard sale yet. But I do have kids that I can coerce into doing it for me. Actually I think I'll bring one tub a day down and stack them on the porch until yard sale day.

LMAO trust me, my living room isn't that great either. Notice I didn't put a pic of that up Roll

It has a half bleached sofa (don't ask, I'm bleaching it out to get another color), an old vanity which is supposed to be going to dd's house but hasn't found it's way there yet, a pink/white glider rocker for dd which also hasn't made it's way to her house, target bags with toys and two rattan chairs which are going on CL very soon because next I am painting the living room and getting it finished too.

I did the countertop refacing with a friend. We used one of those kits that look like granite in the end where you use a base coat, then sponge on 3 different colors. It was pretty cool looking since it went from magenta pink countertops to "black granite" Smilie

I'll post some pics when I'm done, I haven't put pictures, curtains etc up yet. I just painted one wall so it wasn't a big remodel laugh out loud I'm planning to put in some French doors at some point in time but until then I have to live with the sliding door. I finally broke down and bought vertical blinds vomit but I thought the neighbors were probably getting tired of seeing me walk around the house in my jammies.
1st...I just discovered my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore shop.....FIGGIN Awesome! I got 2" wood blinds at $5 a piece! NEW in the BOX! You can't even buy cheapa$$ vinyl blinds at that $$$, also got a set of french doors for my closet at....wait for it.....$20 each!!!! of course they need to be sanded and painted but come on!!!!

2nd...at least you wear jammies Wink

OMG! D.O.N.O.T do it! You will regret it after you have, I can't say from complete experience but I have painted my appliances with the special appliance paint and it is nothing like the actual surface -- for get it if you leave spill, or drop a lost & forgotten mac n cheese noodle...you can't super scrub it without damaging it. There are other cheap options....you can get end lot cases of expensive tile for dirt cheap plus there are cheap ready made countertops in loews/home depot if you have limited counter tops.

I keep seeing a commmerical for granite transformations and was thinking about getting the free in home consult.

Our local Habitat store is EEK! I've been there once or twice, and it's not a great place to go with small kids. Really bad neighborhood.

I painted my countertops (with heavy duty epoxy spray paint, not the resurface stuff). This was 6 years ago. Our countertops were baby pink (we have black appliances and maroon walls) vomit

I painted the master bath one first, to test. It had no problems and held up. So I painted the kitchen. Bad idea! Now they are black and pink (scratches). Good thing we hate people, so no one ever comes in the house. Big Grin I might try a resurface kit in a few months. I want new countertops, but my DH keeps saying we are going to move to a better school district (he's been saying this for 5 years), so we can't put any money into the house Frown

OMG Today was SO busy at work! Everyone must be shopping on Labor Day. I usually get off about 10:30am on Mondays, and I didn't get off work till almost 3p. I had 5 pallets of Halloween costumes and halloween candy. But, next time you are at T, and if they have the Pet costumes (the ones back in the Seasonal section, not the pet section ones), check them out! Some of them, I think my dog would kill me in my sleep if I put them on him! Although, I do like the Mounted Moose Head one.
