[QUOTE=Christine1227;32396945]Cool!
snip***

Times are tough. Budgets are being slashed and A LOT of teachers have to buy supplies with their own money, and we all know that their salaries are already low enough.

***

We obviously don't see eye to eye on this , our techers are still getting a 5 1/2 percent increase with no layoffs nad no contributions to health care , they also answer to no ONE for the where are school dollars are spent . Meanwhile just in the civil section here our police and other township workers are taking pay freezes and making for the first time contrutions to the health care plans to avoid layofffs. While THE TEACHERS UNION continues to just make demands. They are holding the taxpayer hostage.
In the private sector here employees , the one's who pay those taxes are either being laid off , or facing no pay increases and loss of most benefits , the
taxpayers pockets sre empty.

In addition to which we have the highest paid teachers here, in the country
I can't feel bad for them

Yes the school system need to realize times are tough for everyone!

I am informed and have two relatives who are teachers , am not buying into "for the kids"

Pens are for the kids, for heaven sakes third world countries provide pens and pencils for the students. the excess is not.

I must be the odd one out on the teacher/parent responsibility of supplies.

I buy stuff or get it free with coupons and give it to the teachers all year long.

I've been skimming too BargainScout -- this thread is moving FAST today!!

Anyone ever try the Downy ball?? I got some liquid Downy on clearance really cheap at Wags last week AC but my machine doesn't have a dispenser so I was looking for a way to be able to use it. Found info. on the Downy ball and decided to try it ($1.3x @ T.) Anyway, LOVE it!! Works perfect, is no-fuss, and with our hard water makes the clothes soooooo soft!!

And on the topic of reviews, I give diapers.com's customer service an A+++. I ordered some shoes for dd from there a couple weeks ago (no special deal...just had the ones I was looking for and I've always gotten her good-quality shoes for her feet) and they didn't fit so had to send them back and order up a size. Have had to call their CS a couple times for things and the service has been superb!!
Love my downy ball! I've had one for about 10 years, course I don't use downy, I use Gain!

MCR has a $5 Chuck E. Cheese GC. Not much, but the selection has been slim pickins lately. (Other than the K GC heart)

I stuff backpacks for the kids that can't get there school supplis.
I don't think it is the teachers responsibilty to suppy the school supplies rather the school system. what the h are our taxes going to , I don't know when first of all people starting having to send their kids to school with the basics , pencils erasers , and such it was insidious and now it's becoming the norm to send in trash bags and kleenex and toilet paper also ? It's ridiculous . Again what in the world are my school budget dollars going for? We've gotten to far away from education and into country clubs and handing out condoms. .

This kind of reminds me of the situation with radio and tv for FREE and somehow this generation got sucked into paying for what used to be FREE
and think nothing of it , cable, sirius radio. It;s insidious group think or non think
IMO .

Wave Hi everyone! I'm behind in this thread at the moment and I'll catch up later on. Even though I don't post in here a lot, I do try to keep up with TCC and read the thread frequently. Sorry I don't partake in the chat very often, but I do feel like I know all of you and I enjoy reading your posts. Lately, I've increasingly noticed myself gaining a greater understanding of why some of you have little desire to venture into the deals thread. Although I've known this and understood the reasons behind it for quite some time, I find that it is beginning to resonate with me more and more.

Everyone in here is familiar with the ups and downs of the deals thread... We all know it can get crazy at times and that is just part of the cycle and the nature of the thread. Ever since you know what happened, the thread has been spiraling out of control. I keep thinking that things will turn around sooner or later and I repeatedly discover that I am wrong.

Occasionally, there are moments of relief where I think we are getting back on track. The thread has been able to resume a more normal tone at times. However, it seems this relief is only temporary. The next thing I know, chaos emerges once again, feeding off of itself and growing to the point that it dominates the thread. The chaotic elements of the Target deals thread continue to obfuscate the positive aspects, making them more difficult to appreciate.

During my time here and even prior to joining SD, I have seen the Target thread go through numerous ups and downs. I'm sure I wasn't here for everything that has gone down in the thread, but I'm really starting to feel that the recent downturn has been particularly awful; it seems there is no end in sight. Where I generally used to consistenly enjoy reading the thread, now it seems more like a gamble insofar as I may end up enjoying it, but I also may end up dreading it just as easily.

Throughout my life, I've been told that I have an extremely high level of patience, and while I like to think that this is true, I must admit that my patience for the deals thread is noticably wearing thin. I am just so incredibly tired of all the drama! I'm sick and tired of all of the bickering and petty arguments where people put one another down, taking their frustrations out on eachother simply because they cannot find another outlet. There seems to be an overwhelming and undying interest to continually perpetuate negativity in the thread.

Personally, I have neither the time nor the desire to deal with drama. While no one is perfect, myself included, I feel it is important to make an effort to be respectful to other individuals in all areas of life. I try to be diplomatic and have empathy for other people. I have very little desire to instigate drama, be it in real life or on the internet. Perhaps it can be mildly entertaining to observe on occasion, but that should really be the extent of it. The Target thread keeps getting stuck in a rut and consumed by all of this drama. Hasn't there been enough already? Surely, I am not alone when I say that I've had enough.

I have also had enough of the begging. I recognize that various circumstances may prevent people from obtaining extra coupons, etc. Everybody needs help at times and I certainly appreciate when people help eachother out. Normally, I tend to be pretty tolerant of the begging that occurs in the thread, but it really has reached a whole new level at present, with nearly complete consumption of the thread. I understand that some people need help but I don't enjoy when I'm reading virtually nothing other than this type of post over and over again.

The begging has really taken over the thread. I feel like it is harder to find a relevant post than a begging/OT post in deals these days. I'm wondering how long you guys think this will continue for. I'm curious as to the longest amount of time that such nonsense has continued in the thread in the past. It seems reeeaallllyy long to me this time.

But I have no idea what to do to put the thread back on track. Dontknow Maybe we can persuade Sky to change the thread title to "Target & Super Target Deals Thread. Keep OT/SHENANIGANS/BEGGING to a minimum. Please read first post and both wikis OVER and OVER AGAIN before posting." Then again, I guess that probably wouldn't do much to help the situation.

I'm sorry for rambling on about my frustrations. I guess I'm hoping one of the long-timers here may be able to provide some insight or tell me that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If not, maybe you can at least lie to me and convince me that the shenanigans will soon come to an end. laugh out loud The Target deals thread has really been amazing and I will continue to hope that we can achieve that again, sooner rather than later!!!

Has anyone ever noticed that if you hover over the reputation box (the colored one) of someone, a cute little post will pop up? For instance cathi4savings says she will become famous soon enough. Calistyle says she has a reputation beyond repute. Very cute, I'm sure everyone already knew this, but after almost 3 years I JUST now noticed it! Yes, I'm easily entertained. Ok

I'm really not trying to start anything over this, but I just know that in my county/city, teachers have been putting teacher supplies on the supply list for quite a while now and that the education budget (and their salaries) is shrinking fast. Seems like at least once a week on the news they talk about teachers protesting layoffs and budget cuts at the county school board building. I really have no clue about how anything is anywhere else.

And I wouldn't go as far as saying third world countries supply their students...

I saw that. But seems like everyone else is implying she is (and playing dumb, apparently). Just curious.

Oooh, maybe not. This is interesting...

Uhm. Anyone with cats care to explain why my kitty keeps taking running leaps into the windows? There's nothing outside and he's hitting them pretty hard :/
