Dinner tonight was a sort of "tapas" like event. Applewood smoked salmon on crispbread. I made a topping out of creme fraiche, pepper and sweet gherkins. Side of pear and fontal quarters cheese. I forgot the type of pear it is, but it is a kind I had never had, I liked it.

wet back to my roots and i had two seasonal, fall dishes:
kuri-gohan (chestnuts rice) and matsutake-gohan (pine mushroom rice). you can actually pick your own pine mushrooms around here which is epic.

cooked up miso soup and saba-shioyaki (mackerel salt grilled). one of my heart fishes for it's oiliness and goes great with ground daikon radish/soy/lemon dipping sauce. Big Grin

oh yeah, and the season for crabbing (at least where i go: marine area 7 in the san juan islands) closed as of yesterday evening. no more free/sd on crab until next year. Sadwalk

it's exactly what you'd expect from any other type of taco, and the protein in the dish is fried/grilled white fish instead of chicken or steak.

actually, i've run into difficulty in the past trying to make tortillas by hand. you almost have to have a press to make GOOD ones. Smilie

i've found a level of difference from what people claim to be mexican food vs. what is actually authentic mexican food. even something as simple as a salsa can make a world of difference. Smilie
