Ank your DDs are adorable. I miss lilB being a newborn, he was a pretty good and content baby, well as long as he got to nurse very often. It is fun hearing him learn to talk and do new things though. He said his first understandable sentance yesterday "I wanna cheeeeeese schtick" and then after the diaper change he managed to get his shorts on with one leg in each leg hole and the front in the front. I can't believe it's already been 19 months.

I think it's about time for a poop story no? We have a carpet cleaning scheduled for Monday. DH changed a poopy diaper and then decided he would let the boy air dry for awhile, I had no idea! I though lilB was playing in his sisters room but he had pooped some more and was trying to clean it up himself by rubbing her shirt in it and it all over the carpet. EEK! That was on my birthday and I was getting ready, we were going out to eat. I was upset DH let him run around diaperless with out keeping an eye on him, wth? Of course if he has no diapwer and no one is watching him he is going to poop, that's just the laws of nature... lol. So DH didn't want to clean it all up and I wasn't about to do it, especially on my bday so woot we get clean carpets on Monday.

Renter? You have renters? You mean straaaannngers who live in your house...... You know, all those crazy ass serial killers have to live somewhere....EEK!

I may or may not get it done today -- but if I don't it will be because I am working and that will be up and down the ladder all day long. I think that counts!
I know right? And they are kind of weird ones too. Cold

Going up and down a ladder all day counts for sure. The last time I did that we were painting, oh boy I was so sore!

I got one of those Hamilton Beach food choppers at Target and have only used it about 5 times and I get it out last night to chop some veggies for my chicken chili and it doesn't work at all. I plugged it in and turned it on and nothing. Tried the toaster & night light on the same outlet and those worked. Frown I am going to have to get to Target today to return it and find another food chopper.

Wave I was a fraidy cat & didn't try towels. I did get a box of notebooks! I found kids denim shorts @ 1.25 each - so I got some minor overage w/4 pairs. Found a few dollar spot clearance things too - pepsi/mtn dew lip gloss, marshmallow roasting forks, and fridge magnet clips. No produce @ this T.

I know that a number of you have recently been dealing with taking care of health problems in the family or
staying with loved ones in the hospital. My heart goes out to each of you :heart : and I hope you will receive the
best possible outcome. :comfort :

I find myself in a similar situation at the moment and will be taking a family member to the hospital shortly.
Right now I'm a nervous wreck and I'm trying to figure out what to bring with me but I can't even think clearly.
Considering the way I already feel despite the fact that I'm not even at the hospital yet, I'm sure I will definitely
need a distraction.

If you have any recommendations, I'd appreciate you sharing them with me. : ) Chances are that most of you
probably won't be awake before I leave though. I may try to bring a computer but I have no idea if I will be able
to access the internet at the hospital. It feels like I don't know anything right now; I feel like I'm a giant walking
question mark. :confuse3 : Then again, I know I am fortunate to have the ability to walk.

Teri, I hope you get to bring Joel home very soon. :pray :

Bring a mindless book to read and maybe some puzzle books or something. If you have your computer and a wifi connection, maybe occupy your time with a People of Walmart type site? Those are always good distractions.

cali..I know this is a little to late, but in the event that you are needing to be at the hospital for a while. I brought my lap top and some discs to watch. (that was for the hospital room). For the emergency room, I brought magazines that I kept meaning to read. Hope all is well. Update when you can.

Hospitals and Illnesses - Too many people out there to list individually but I'm praying for each of you to have the strength to get better or to be their for your loved ones as they get better.

Wave Hi everyone! Thanks so much for all of the nice responses!!! Your tips will surely help me during this difficult time. I am still at the hospital and I don't know what the timeline is. I haven't been able to go home at all or get any work done since I arrived here at the beginning of the week. I brought some stuff to read and a computer to try to occupy myself but it's been hard for me to focus most of the time. I didn't bring any games because I am the only one here other than the hospital staff. As far as the essentials go, I remembered some basic necessities like socks and underwear but I am missing some stuff and I wish I brought more extra clothing. I feel like I'm losing my mind because my brain just hasn't been functioning normally. Without even trying to, I brought several different types of hair brushes and combs which I obviously don't need at the hospital, yet somehow I completely forgot to bring one of those Colgate toothbrushes from T. laugh out loud Oh well, I got a toothbrush from the hospital and at least I managed to remember some of the important stuff.

I thought I could try to be productive while I'm here but that totally hasn't happened. I brought a computer with me and they have wireless internet but it has been pretty much useless since I can barely access it. Most of the time, I've been unable to connect to the internet at all. Even when I have gotten online, I haven't been able to stay connected for very long. We have relocated to a different hospital tower and I'm having better luck getting online right now. Hopefully I'll be able to stay connected longer now, but I wanted to make sure I at least got a chance to check in with you guys. I've been trying to do this all week but I couldn't stay connected long enough to accomplish much reading or posting. I'm so far behind on SD, I don't even know where to start. I came here to follow up even though I'm not caught up in the thread because I don't want to leave you guys hanging if I happen to lose the connection again.

It seems unlikely right now but I do hope to be able to catch up with all of the reading, posting, PMing, etc. that I meant to do earlier. You guys have been quite chatty lately. I feel like it's gonna take me forever to catch up with TCC and Deals will take forever and a day. (Yeah, that's right I said Deals.) Teehee Then there's all the crap I was supposed to do in the Wiki. I'm gonna try not to worry myself about it. In the grand scheme of things, I know right now that I am precisely where I should be, doing precisely what I should be. I am taking care of my father in the hospital and that takes priority over everything else.

Even though I've been here all week, it seems I don't have much news to report. So far, it's just been the typical hospital experience filled with a lot of "hurry up and wait" and no one ever seeming to have an answer (or even guess) about anything. I just keep hearing, "I really don't know. It's different for each patient." My father is hanging in there and I am staying here with him. I wish I knew what is going to happen next but I don't. I'm looking into transferring him to another facility soon. I'm just trying to stay positive and help him in any way I can. I sincerely appreciate all of the thoughtful responses I received and thank you very much!!! Blowkiss

I hope you are all doing well and good luck to all of the TCC dieters!

I know this is late but I also want to say...

Happybday Happy Birthday love2beeamom and setsail!

Quote from slowtech :
sorry to bring a very somber note a couple days late here, but i wanted to remember my friend David.

i wasn't home on 9/11 so didn't read the posts about the WTC until yesterday. there were some questions about what were people thinking and what they went thru. wanted to respond to the convo but it got retired and too much trouble to go back in there trying to quote. my mom was at work there that day and here's what she said about it in an online CNN interview-

On September 11, 2001, XXXXX had been at her desk on the 54th floor of the south tower for about an hour when the north tower was hit by a hijacked jetliner.

"The building shook, and I heard my coworkers yelling to get out, to run," she said.

Seated far from any window, XXXXX did not immediately grasp the magnitude of what had happened. Instead, she continued working until a coworker returning for her purse yelled at her. Looking up, XXXXX found the work area was nearly empty.

"She says, I better get out. I looked out the window and saw a lot of debris falling. It was in flames. I ran towards the door."

Then, realizing she had left her sneakers and pocketbook containing her asthma medication, she returned and grabbed them, then headed downstairs. This time, the emergency stairwell was lighted -- one of the changes the building had undergone after the 1993 attack.

Around the time she reached the 30th floor, the building shook again -- "a very hard thump."

"We hung on to the banisters and railings, because it really shook the building. It swayed," she said. Soon, the smell of jet fuel permeated the staircase, searing into her consciousness.

After she reached a church across the street she looked up. The north tower, where her company also had offices, was shrouded in smoke.

XXXXX decided it was time to go. When she reached Chinatown, several blocks north, she again looked up "and there was empty space where the World Trade Center was."

She made her way to a relative's apartment on the Lower East Side, where she was given a cup of tea and sat in front of a television to watch the events unfold.

It was not until that night, when a niece gave her a ride over the river, that she got back to Queens.

XXXXX said the catastrophes she has witnessed have changed her life.

"I will not put things off now," she said. She also resolved "to do more good deeds, in the sense that you think about your mortality. I wanted to be more positive, and leave a positive memory on other people."

Would she consider leaving New York?

"No. I just feel that one doesn't run away from one's problems, and I still feel that I can contribute," she said. "I can make the place better."

i had a very good friend, David, who worked on the 90-something floor of one of the buildings (new yorkers called them building 1 and 2. the media always calls them north and south so i don't know which is which, but i think my mom and friend worked in different buildings.). according to coworkers who did make it out, he went back to get his Wizard (early pda) and nothing was ever found of him except his work ID. it's really a small world. while we were putting together his memorial, i discovered we had been in the same saturday language class in first grade. we also had gone to the same high school but he was a grade ahead so we didn't know each other there though i remember seeing him many times.

my now ex-SIL worked in building #7 which was also damaged but she made it out. right afterwards i remember her being upset about her shoes and esp library books she had at work.

my life has definitely changed and is different now b/c my friend David is no longer here. by coincidence, his in-laws live a few miles away and when his wife visited her parents, we would always get together. the last time i saw him just 2-3 wks b4 9/11, they had come over to hang out a little and his wife was looking pregnant but they didn't say anything. i think they confirmed it and we were all excited for them and then he was gone.

i just want everyone to remember that life is so precious and way more valuable than any material goods and possessions.
slowtech, I am unable to find the words I seek to respond to your post and do it justice. It seems there are no such words to be found. To begin, I'll simply say that "wow" is the first word that enters my mind as I read this. Your post was so incredibly moving. It brought tears to my eyes and I could feel the depth of emotion behind your words. I also missed the 9/11 posts here and I just want to say thank you very much for this eye-opening account and glimpse into what you and your mother experienced. I am sorry for your loss and I appreciate your opening up to share this with all of us. hug

Quote from ank220 :
Just coming in to post that we got a call back from the doctor already.

He said her spinal test looked great and there's no further testing or anything needed for that - thank goodness! Her kidney ultrasound still shows dilation, so they are sending her to a pediatric urologist (Oct. 5th - ugh... hate that wait), and they are scheduling her for a test. I think it's called a VCUG. Basically, they will put a catheter in her and fill her bladder with a liquid that has a dye in it. Then they take x-rays while she pees and check to see if the dye all comes out like it should or flows back up toward the kidneys.

From what I'm reading on the net, it then depends on what is causing the flow. It seems that most of the time they expect the kids to grow out of it in time, and occasionally there's an abnormality that needs correction via surgery. Of course, I'm hoping for the "grow out of it" part.

So far, it's been a fairly uneventful day. The car has a flat tire, so I don't know if I'll get out to shop at all. : ( DH had to run and do some errands for church this morning and discovered it on his way out. Hopefully he'll be back home before he has to go to work so he can check out the car and change the tire if we have a spare. I think we do...

Not much else going on, I guess!
ank, I'm happy to hear that the testing has gone well for Mavis and I hope the further tests bring equally great news!

Recap for Calistyle:

You haven't missed much. Deals are pretty much the same: produce, bakery, bathroom stuff. Back to School crap is clearancing out. Some bedding and garden hitting 75% off.

Lots of us are finishing up our first week of the diet and have lost weight. We celebrate and whine. Produce coupon is handy. We would prefer cake.

Hope all goes well for your dad.

CALISTYLE, praying for your dad, sending strength and hugs and presence of mind your way. i have found that when one finds oneself in a place like this, distractions don't help much cos you are already so distracted with all that is preoccupying you, that there is no brain power left to put towards the artificial distractions.
but, prayer helps. just repeating the same prayer over and over - it's calming. or even with a rosary or reading a thin prayer book.
also helpful - keeping a notebook, and jotting down the things you're forgetting or need to follow up on: people to call; things to ask the docs; toiletries to arrange; things to tell your dad. etc. keeping those lists gives you a sense of purpose, and helps free the mind from keep tracking of so many niggling details.

other than that, please, please, please shout out if I can do anything. want me to send you a package at the hospital with any toiletries/supplies you need? easy peasy. just let me know what you need and where and i can get it out ASAP.

Case-it Question:

I was so excited to be able to get the Dual Base Case-it at 75%. I moved all my Qs over and it is loaded and ready to go. But whenever I open it, the 3-ring binders have come undone and my pages are all loose and have to be put back in. I'm wondering if I just got a bad one? Or is it too small for all my pages -- it has a 1.5" binder on each side, both packed pretty full. Or is it the add-ons (the clip board and the pencil pouch) that's maybe catching and opening the binders? Has anyone else had problems? Is there a way to "tighten" the binders so they stay closed? Any help is appreciated!

Thanks to everyone who sent pm's with q help hug

Cali, Prayers for you and your family.
Jamie, congrats on a great YS day woot

Interesting shopping day at Target laugh out loud DS got a headache and had to go sit at the blood pressue machine, not to check his pressure, but it was the closest seat to the headache medicine isle. DD went to the food court to get him a drink to take the meds, I paid for the meds at the pharmacy. Lucky for us we had a 50 cents off 1.00 Food Court cat and I had my last 20.00 RX cat so I filled a prescription while we were there.

Founds lots more clearance and put the bathroom q to good use. Towel bar for 11.48, used 10.00 q, TP holder 5.xx, found RE sheet set and bedskirt in the light gray that matches the comforter set we found perfectly. Lots of artwork at 75%, found some sea shell ones for 5.xx marked down from 20.00. Found the toy box at 75%, cute speedo pool/beach shoes at 75%, more towels at 1.48, stocked up on more Jif Naturals big jar...got some smuckers too. ummm, what else, oh wicker baskets for bathroom to go with the shower curtain and towels. Felt sooo good to go shopping, even if I did have the crew with me LMAO
