So did you figure out the Kohls thing? Basically the 5 off coupon from e-junkie can be combined with the percentage offs and the 10 off 20 Kohls coupons.. but even with just the 5 off coupon you can get clearance items for near free or the coffee pods for 5 bucks after coupon... hth!!
HUGS!!
DREEME Where are you!?! Normally you are on with us @ this time... Hope all is OK.. hugs!!
I purchased laptop bags from Amazon that were 5 bucks to use as a teachers gift for Christmas time as the "basket" that I normally make for them... so what should I put inside...? Ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
keep an eye out at T and staples... since most day planners now run on school years, those go on major sale/clearance, too.
i'd mentioned in the deals thread about a week ago that the T stationery endcaps had decorative paper packs on clearance. and the dollar spot had awesome card making kits for a buck. those would be great cos they can use for the bulletin boards around the classroom, or for craft projects with kids. lots of scrapbooking supplies go on clearance and they can use those with the kids.
i always like giving people nice hot chocolate as a gift around christmas. maybe the kind which comes with a big mug which teachers can then use as their water mug or stationery mug in their classrooms.
seeds and bulbs are nice, too, cos teachers can have pretty plants in their classrooms but also use em as a teaching tool on plants with their kids.
Now............if only I could undo the confrontation that went down this afternoon....
as for confrontation - yes you can move past it. just move past it. just that easily. or you know on email say something like, hey -------, i hope you are doing well this morning! things got a little heated yesterday and i felt like it got the discussion off on the wrong foot. ... and then go into the discussion from there. again politely. even reiterate some of their stance from the previous day (leaving out the angry parts, but just the crux of their argument) so you document it on email, and then reiterate your stance.
my point is, confrontations happen all the time in workplaces. people are people. it happens. what matters is what happens next. and that depends on how both sides handle it. it's important to take control of it early, because if you have a vindictive/powertrip sort of person on the other side, you don't want them to fester feeling angry, because that could really hurt you.
you have rights. excercise them. but do so tactfully and with a "talk gently but carry a big stick" attitude so that you don't lose your job in a retaliatory measure in the long run.
that's disappointing!
a friend of my parents had this issue, and so finally for christmas she got a program for her husband's computer. she programmed it with all the dates. and so before the dates were coming up and again on the date it popped up reminders for him to get presents, make plans etc. it was like a gag gift on christmas and they all laughed about it. but the deed was done and he loved it long run, because it meant no stress for him, no feeling guilty, no worrying there was going to be a fight/argument/tears/disappointment. and he got to be the great romantic, thoughtful hero every time!
i know they have similar apps available now for the iphone as well as blackberries and even windows mobile phones if he has a smartphone/ipod touch. and if not, you can do the computer version also!
you could be allergic to gluten, but it could also be an allergy to some of the preservatives in some breads. you will notice a lot of the regular (not organic) breads have bromates in them plus other things. they put anti-mold chemicals, fungicides, other things to increase shelf life. organic breads don't have those, so maybe you can test one vs the other kind to see if that does the trick also.
a dear friend of mine has been eating a gluten free diet. she said she noticed that when she did that there was a big reduction in bloating (she's stick thin by the way), indigestion etc. so much stuff comes in gluten free varieties now. there's even gluten free pasta (made from rice flour), and gluten free ice cream cones!
I am a personal banker for a very small bank, my direct manager is a bimbo, I am going to request a meeting with the ops manager who also happens to be one of the owners of the bank. I trust her and have a good relationship with her, hopefully she will set things straight with HR...

fyi- celestial seasonings honey vanilla chamomile is nasty!
i'm off to bed!
I like that kind... but without sugar/sweetner.

I wonder if I switched to an organic bread if that may make a difference. Couldn't hurt to try, right? I wonder if it's something i have to get out of my system first though. I guess I could even try vegan or something.
Man, I'm getting expensive as I get older.

I would also consider talking to both your superior and hers. What she's doing could land the company in some hot water.
Hmm... I think I will look into this. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that our insurance pays for the testing - or at least a part of it. I've had it done before for things liek pollen, dust, bees, etc... Just never for food.

and as for the reason as to why you want it one way or not the other - you shouldn't have to explain yourself. the law is clear - no change. even if your title changes, your payroll status cannot change, and there certainly cannot be an effective change in pay/benefits. stick to that.
finally, i wouldn't bother arguing with said HR lady anymore. i have found that people who are accusatory/self-righteous/argumentative are generally miserable in their lives. they just look for reasons to attack people/prove their superiority and they almost always drag you down into their pit. arguing with them is a waste of your time, and a pointless descent into negativity.
ank, my insurance paid for the allergy testing, because i was getting very sick/having a lot of difficulty breathing etc and had ended up in the hospital twice with breathing issues (i hate hospitals/going to doctors) so this was a big deal on my end.
if your insurance requires a referral, you just would have to mention the reactions to your PCP (primary care physician) and should be able to get an allergist referral very easily.
the only thing to remember about that antibody test (they did it on my arm) is that a) it itches like insanity as your allergy develops but you're not allowed to scratch it, so take an ipod or a magazine or something with you for distraction; and b) you will likely feel rather tired afterwards that day because you're setting off your bodies immune response and if you're found to be allergic to multiple things in the panel, you're setting off multiple antibodies in your system, so it's almost like if you have a mild infection.
in the future, i personally will always insist on a blood test, so as not to have the exhaustion after. but the benefit of the skin test is that you get results right away and the doctor can prescribe antihistamines and an allergy reduction regimen right away.
sorry so long! off to bed.
I have a lot of random items that local charities won't take, for whatever reason (nail polish and candles, for example) and I would love for them to go to some people that might appreciate it

I do think it's a lovely idea ,,
how would you decide which teachers got them ?
Unless you found out how many teachers where at the school of your choice, and made basket size accordingly so you have enough to go around. btw shirt boxes or bakery boxes make nice "baskets if you line the bottom with colorful paper, just lay items flat no top needed. Kinda like a tray.Or you might use gift bags , there where tons on clearance in the dollar spot not long ago.
Or tins also make gift holders, if you have them laying around, like cookie tins
.
or you could have them do a chinese auction, set out a group of items, with a paper bag in front of each group, teachers are given tickets with #'s they keep 1 half of ticket with the # the other they put in the bag of there choice ,#'s are drawn from each bag and that # called wins those items. They could call it teacher appreciation raffle.. I think they would enjoy this option.
I'd call the school and talk to the prinicpal I'm sure he'd be co-operative
with setting something up.
Another idea may be to donate the baskets to a local church and have them use them at one of their many functions as door prizes .
.
Hmm, I dunno. Too tired to think right now :/
I'll never catch up...no matter if/how I try (hard).
My oldest (turned 18 in March) with special needs got into some serious, serious trouble (legal) and our lives have been turned upside down/sideways. I am stopping by to say hello and to share that I'm not around due to RL - have not bailed.
Timing stinks as I was just 'getting it' here....*sigh*
I ask for prayers and good thoughts and hope to be back to learn/help/contribute soon.
While all that is happening in our life is overwhelming and heart-breaking, I am grateful I have a sense of humor. My b-Day was Sunday and yesterday, 2 officers appeared at my door first thing - taking my son for 2 warrants. I muttered under my breath, 'Happy belated birthday mom', and one of them heard me. He felt so bad that he was visibly embarrassed and upset. I told him it was OK - that when you have special kids, you expect special surprises. He did not know what to think/say/do...
