That's why I always look for the illiterate cashier, or the teen too busy trying to hide the phone while texting on the job (they read in text so that works too) forgot to add or the extra chatty cashier who's too busy talking to care to read.

got one today too! now i know what you guys mean by a thick layer of dust on stuff at kmart. this bike has been in the store a really long time and not in the best of shape. i think the derailleur needs a big adjustment. just hope it doesn't need replacing.

i would go see if i could get another one in better shape but the 3 stores are all about an hour away. i don't think dh would be willing to go. i told him about it sunday and he saw the reviews and wasn't motivated. but the latest review persuaded me. 19.00 for an aluminum frame is very cheap. even if you had to replace a few components, you would still end up w/ a very cheap bike. i got the womens schwinn from target and steel is heavier.

thinking may be worth it to just take this bike to the bike shop for a tune-up.

they tried to sell me a warranty for i think 3.99 but online it's 17.99. at the store dh was thinking it might be worth it. she said i could come back w/in 7 days to buy the warranty. hmmm, maybe i should take it to the bike shop and see what they say....

Yeah I try ,but it seems sometimes to me I'm the only one in the world who q's around here and they are on high alert cause they aren't used to them , might have something to do with the fact none of them are super t's so maybe don't sell the volume of groceries (which alot of q's are for) therfore don't get so may qpons. Then they don't know how to handle them

cherry, one humble suggestion: going forward, i'd put things on email ONLY, not only with the confrontational one, but also with the owner. for one thing because you simply don't know why the HR lady did what she did - was there a directive from someone else to change your status and then give you that company line of "what's the big deal" or was there some directive that anyone on salaried status that doesn't regularly work 40 should be changed when opportunity arises, or was there some cost-cutting directive? you don't know what the backstory/backroom discussions are. an email trail protects you.

and as for the reason as to why you want it one way or not the other - you shouldn't have to explain yourself. the law is clear - no change. even if your title changes, your payroll status cannot change, and there certainly cannot be an effective change in pay/benefits. stick to that.

finally, i wouldn't bother arguing with said HR lady anymore. i have found that people who are accusatory/self-righteous/argumentative are generally miserable in their lives. they just look for reasons to attack people/prove their superiority and they almost always drag you down into their pit. arguing with them is a waste of your time, and a pointless descent into negativity.

ank, my insurance paid for the allergy testing, because i was getting very sick/having a lot of difficulty breathing etc and had ended up in the hospital twice with breathing issues (i hate hospitals/going to doctors) so this was a big deal on my end.

if your insurance requires a referral, you just would have to mention the reactions to your PCP (primary care physician) and should be able to get an allergist referral very easily.

the only thing to remember about that antibody test (they did it on my arm) is that a) it itches like insanity as your allergy develops but you're not allowed to scratch it, so take an ipod or a magazine or something with you for distraction; and b) you will likely feel rather tired afterwards that day because you're setting off your bodies immune response and if you're found to be allergic to multiple things in the panel, you're setting off multiple antibodies in your system, so it's almost like if you have a mild infection.

in the future, i personally will always insist on a blood test, so as not to have the exhaustion after. but the benefit of the skin test is that you get results right away and the doctor can prescribe antihistamines and an allergy reduction regimen right away.

and the notebook idea, cherry, is not only a great one but a very important one. if you end up having to see a lawyer/union rep or any such thing, right at the outset you will be asked for a timeline of events, with details - who did you talk to, what was said, how did that conversation occur (phone, email, in person), who else was in the room, who did notify of the conversation afterwards etc.
this is central to your side of the situation.



when we were little, we regressed also and fussed. somehow, going to the bottle seemed cool and comforting after we saw a baby drink from it. so mum and dad hatched a plan... one morning (i still remember this clear as day even though i was very little), they sat in the family room, with a big bin in front of the trash can. and they told us that we were no longer little babies, that we had grown up and so grownups don't drink from bottles cos they get to do something very special, they get to have their very own cups that they get to pick out on their own. and as proof they showed us each of their mugs, that had tea in them. :facepalm : we were wide-eyed.
then they said, and if grownups keep drinking from baby bottles it makes their teeth all wonky and their smiles ugly (the dentist had told them that). did we want that? noooooo we said sadly.
but they said in order to have the grownup mugs we had to first throw our bottles ourselves and say "i'm a big girl now, i don't drink from baby bottles" (we only got to toss one bottle each :lmao sneaky those parents)

sure enough, after a few moments of hesitation, the bottles went into the can and smashed. we liked the sound of it. it was empowering.
then that very day they took us to a store and got us to pick out our own mugs as promised. i still remember one of the mugs had shades of pink stripes, from light to dark, with the love is pair on it... it said love is... on top, and i can't remember what it was that the two did. :lmao :

Cherry, Sorry for everything you are going through at work. Employers never seem to learn that their Employees are their most valued asset and should be treated as such.

Still before going full steam into the meeting you might double check that your company does qualify to be governed by FMLA. You mentioned you work for a small company and few people realize that FMLA only applies to companies that employ 50+ people within a 75 mile radius.

I haven't had a position in over 20 years where the company had more than 10 employees much less 50. When I was pregnant I was at a company with 3 employees including myself. The doctor had diagnosed me with pre-eclampsia over a month before my due date. There was just no way I could be off that long so I had to work (argue) with the doc to come to some compromise that would allow me to work until approx 2 weeks before the due date. Then I went back to work 1/2 days just 3 days after my C-Section. All so I could make sure they didn't hire someone to replace me and so the only time I took off was covered by the vacation time I had built up.

Don't get me wrong. I am no super hero nor do I think what I did was the right thing to do, I just did what I had to. And I by no means do I think that your situation is right. The company should not treat you the way they are. Just make sure that the law is on your side first.

Oh, and if by chance you don't have more than 50 employees you still may be covered by similar state laws. These laws vary by state to state but can apply to company sizes as small as 10 employees.

For my Keurig peeps, those $5 fleabay coupons for Kohls combined with SEPTEMBER30 code for 30% off at register gives you an 18-count box for 3.49 or .19 per K-cup...guess who owns a LOT of K-cups now....along with the carousel :lol : DS was out for a dr appt so I gave him a gift card left over from a merchandise credit and a $5 coupon. He went through one line while I went through the other. I just told them I left my scratch off at home but gave them the code. Sailed through no questions asked. My manager and the manager of the other branch met with me today to inform me that due to "scheduling conflicts" and my need to take FMLA time "on a whim" , I am being transferred to the other branch. I'm sure this was all planned out long before today or yesterday. And it couldn't have happened without the ops manager approving it..so I now have no desire to talk to her either. I am more than happy about moving to the other branch. I am just still ticked that I am losing some of my holiday pay and that I was switched to hourly from salary. HR said that she checked with the banks legal counsel before making any changes. I guess I will just suck it up and be grateful that I even have a job in these tough times.

Wow! You went back to work after 3 days?? That had to be SO hard for you. I could never do it. I hope you had lots of help with the baby, those first 2-3 weeks are so tiring.

Thanks for your concern over my job situation. We are for sure covered by FMLA, we have just over 50 employees. Plus the paper work is completed and approved.

ahhh yes, that line. so they knew they were heading into a gray zone.
if you are interested in fighting this fight, several states have employee rights divisions within the Dept of Labor... not sure where you are. plus there are attorneys that will be willing to do a free consult with you.
Given the shenanigans they are playing, and their telling you that you took FMLA leave "on a whim" would suggest a defensive and antagonistic position. as in, if you fight that fight with them, you would win, but would lose the larger battle in that they would look for reasons/ways to terminate. not a position you are clearly able to put yourself in.

Rule of thumb to remember - when one side tells you they've checked with legal counsel it usually means a) they are not on ultra firm territory and b) they're trying to scare you away. Two can play that game and one can always call their bluff on it, but of course, it comes with retaliatory consequences. And there are laws to get remuneration in terms of severance for such retaliation, or to ask for one's job back, but these things never end prettily, though on principle in the long run it's like one person taking a bullet to keep a bunch of other from being hurt the same way in the future.

sorry about a crummy situation.

p.s. i would still follow the earlier advice from someone here about documenting everything in a notebook. i hope you don't, but you might need it going forward. and human memory is notoriously unreliable. so write, write, write. to protect yourself, your family and your income.

Flugette - You can use the $5 kohls cpns on items less than $5 too...I have bought socks for $4.85, used $5 cpn, system takes off tax too, so I don't pay anything...Infact the cashier will take the cpn and scan it somehwere and it will show a balance of 0.15...

I read over on one of those other pesky sites that they used like 10 of the $5 kohls coupon in one transaction... but don't know how that would go over... makes me wonder... LOL

I know I am determined that I am heading out to Kohls tomorrow morning... and using at least some of these coupons... but bad news is I have to bring all 5 little kids with me while the other 3 are in school....HUGS!!

I love Black Friday. Where we go really just depends on what each store ends up having and what everyone needs. My family has always gone together. Last year we were at Walmart....there were a lot of little things everyone wanted and I'm pretty sure one family member was going for a laptop or TV or something and my mom wanted one of those Cricut expression scrapbooking machine things. A lot of yrs we've camped out in a tent at Best Buy. Hopefully Walgreens will have some good RR deals and we'll hit those up.

Do any of you have Younkers stores?? They usually have a $10 off $10 coupon for Black Friday....lots of exclusions but some good deals. Usually Kohls later in the day after breakfast at Perkins.

The last 2 years I was unemployed and we seriously were finishing our shopping on Xmas eve because that was payday. This year I want to spread it out more and spend as little as possible.
