what about making a dressing at home with some pureed herbs and a little dash of evoo in it for flavor? or even some orange juice with a little bit of vinegar and oil. point is something to add some taste and take away the oil/vinegar taste you don't like?
or some fat free buttermilk with seasonings to make a buttermilk ranch?
I usually use either Caesar or Green Goddess. Those two have fewer carbs than any other dressing that isn't V&O. Sometimes I thin it a little, but I use just a tad, on the side, and barely dip.

I also make one with mayo and mustard then add a little garlic or onion powder. We used to make a chip dip like that only with Miracle Whip instead of mayo, but mayo has no carbs. So, mayo + mustard = 0 carbs. It's better than it sounds.

My cole slaw dressing recipe can be made low carb too, would have to calculate exactly how many. Just can't remember off the top of my head.

ahhh yes, that line. so they knew they were heading into a gray zone.
if you are interested in fighting this fight, several states have employee rights divisions within the Dept of Labor... not sure where you are. plus there are attorneys that will be willing to do a free consult with you.
Given the shenanigans they are playing, and their telling you that you took FMLA leave "on a whim" would suggest a defensive and antagonistic position. as in, if you fight that fight with them, you would win, but would lose the larger battle in that they would look for reasons/ways to terminate. not a position you are clearly able to put yourself in.

Rule of thumb to remember - when one side tells you they've checked with legal counsel it usually means a) they are not on ultra firm territory and b) they're trying to scare you away. Two can play that game and one can always call their bluff on it, but of course, it comes with retaliatory consequences. And there are laws to get remuneration in terms of severance for such retaliation, or to ask for one's job back, but these things never end prettily, though on principle in the long run it's like one person taking a bullet to keep a bunch of other from being hurt the same way in the future.

sorry about a crummy situation. hug

p.s. i would still follow the earlier advice from someone here about documenting everything in a notebook. i hope you don't, but you might need it going forward. and human memory is notoriously unreliable. so write, write, write. to protect yourself, your family and your income.
Quote from dpags :
Wow, I'm guessing this leave you took was maternity, right? How does that fall into the "on a whim" category? Last I heard it took almost 10 months to brew a baby!

You are in an unfortunate situation - you probably could fight and win, but you would be the ultimate loser in that battle... probably not worth it in the long run, but only you can decide that. I'm sorry you're in this sucky situation Frown. Hang in there.

High Five Way to go!! Good luck to all of the dieters!
The "on a whim" remark from them was in reference to the 2 days of FMLA time that I took last week because the baby was sick and the few hours that I am taking next week to go see my Doc. Plus I still have time that I can take anytime between now and whenever the 12 month cycle runs out. They dont like that because they know I will use it if I need to. My kids come first, sorry.

As much as I would like to fight this, I need my pay check. I just feel bad for the girl at work that just announced her pregnancy, she is going to have to deal with the same crap from them. This bank has been in existence for abt 13 yrs and I am the first employee to have a baby so I guess I get to be the guinea pig!

Thanks for all the great advice!
Quote from TheGh0st :
This is why I don't post often. I was going to respond to your comments Cherry but then GetGreen takes the words out of my mouth and says it better than I ever could. I so want to tell you to fight. Personally it sounds more like the manager is bluffing with the whole legal department comment in the hopes to scare you into not pursuing it but as GetGreen says it most likely wouldn't end well even though you were right.

And you have no idea how hard it was. I'm not the most lovey mushy mother who can't bear to be away from my child but having to have my mom and MIL take turns living with us to help for that first month then sending him immediately into daycare was not easy. Plus he refused to BF so I was pumping and in order to get the flow in properly I was pumping every 3 hours night and day. At night it felt like I never slept between setting the pump up/tearing it down and feeding my son. During the day both me and the boss were weirded out by my having to sit in the lone unisex bathroom every few hours to pump.

But you do what you have to, to get the bills paid.
Truer have never been spoken. This is where I'm at now.

So sorry that you had to leave your baby that soon. It had to be very very difficult. hug

Don't not post because someone said what you were thinking! Two people can say the same thing but indifferent ways and it can make someone see things from a different perspective. Thanks again!

And...talking about food. My dd has terrible environmental allergies. Sneezing, watery eyes, miserable little girl. We had her skin tested for allergies a few years ago. The other day at school I was talking to a mom that was telling me her daughter's "environmental" allergy symptoms were actually tied to food allergies. So, last night I took out her allergy test report and she tested off the scale for corn, pea, peanut, soybean and milk. Frown

So, all this time I thought since she didn't get hives, or her breathing close off that the food allergies weren't the problem. Guess not - they just manifest themselves in traditional environmental allergy ways.

My poor baby. Now we have to try and limit her intake of all these things. Even rice milk has soy in it. Frown

Oh my dear! I have a child that is sensative to soy & corn - - and a long list of other things but those are the two major ones (cows milk is on the list too). We're a couple years into it and corn, soy and milk are hard to avoid. Feel free to reach out to me as you navigate through these culinary challenges... I've been there and I'm livin' it!

yeah but i think it's better when you are in control of the situation and don't wait for them to push you out.

just been thru it w/ bff who also went on family leave at a huge multinational and came back essentially to find her job eliminated and didn't lift a finger to find her an equivalent placement. story is a little more complicated than that, her boss recruited her from a different dept, said he was going to promote her, the paperwork came back, no promo, he left for another division after 6 months and didn't warn her, etc, etc, etc. and she'd been struggling and unhappy b4 that too. i counseled her for yrs to look for another job but she was too emotionally attached to the company and in the end they turfed her out. not a good situation right now. dh started his own business, can't handle it and hasn't made money for 5 yrs. she's been working there on and off for a couple yrs now. they recently moved to a smaller location and she's really busting her butt and still no steady income now for either of them.

dh also just went thru pretty much the same thing. made a bad choice in moving depts to make the big boss happy. big boss left for japan, dh was stuck w/ a micromanager who played favorites. got a bad review, got a transfer, ended up w/ a boss who picked on him and also just turfed him out end of july. luckily we are very frugal, but the economy is bad and jobs are not so easy to come by. and if you stay out of the market too long, that could become permanent.

they both admit they wore out their welcome at the company. made for an unhappy ending.

i just don't want the same for you. best to learn from other peoples mistakes, not your own hug.

Ank- how are you a little Mavis doing? Did you get her test results back? Did I miss it?
Just heard from the doctor. There are no signs of reflux from the bladder back to the kidneys, according to the tests. So that is good. Now we just have to wait and go see the urologist to see what he says. Lots of annoying waiting...

Mavis has been very cranky for a while & had lots of gas. Frown I had thought maybe it was coffee that I was drinking or bread products, but i haven't had any for a few days (actually ran out of coffee!!), so I don't know. Could just be baby fussiness. *shrug* She does better if i lay her on her belly for a little bit during the day or across my lap, so that is what I am doing right now. She still has just enough congestion to be annoying - and probably more so because Mamma keeps suctioning out her nose.

I sooo need to get out and get some gripe water (and produce and coffee!!).

Ank I know she is tiny but have you ever given her chamomille tea? Wait she is tiny tiny huh. Well I am hispanic and you know how we roll with the home remedies. I give my ds that for gas and it really helps release it. Well I drink it too when my tummy is bloated and hurts with the pains. So all home remedy for gas is chamomille tea and you can put Agave Nectar drop or two to sweeten. And Agave is good for you to boot.

and may i just rant for a minute - so for the last three days i've had little to no sleep, not been able to breathe, blah, blah, blah. despite all the exhaustion and feeling super sick. i cleaned out the fridge yesterday in anticipation of a grocery store trip. tossed things Yuk washed and wiped shelves and veggie bin etc etc. so time consuming. all good.

then last night super exhausted i passed out on couch for a bit, laptop in lap halfway through a msg. and darling person put away the leftovers. all good. go to fridge in am, try to grab a peach and find the entire shelf above the veggie bin is a pool of chicken soup. apparently, wonderworker stuffed a bowl of oranges and other leftovers on top of the soup bowl rather than the other way around. it tipped the bowl and everything was drenched in chicken soup. i spent 45 mins cleaning - again!

That just SUCKS - I would have tried to get that Darling to clean it them self, Though I'm sure I would have been stuck with it in the end.

Unfortunately, I remember every single thing I dream!! Some night I feel as though I have not slept. Dreaming is like living my second life. I have my awake life and then my sleeping life. Sometimes it really makes me angry because I feel like I just can't get a break!! It does get tiring.
I don't remember all my dreams but the worst are when I'm stressed out about something at work or home then dream about it all night. For example one time we were doing inventory at work and I dreamed I was counting things all night long just to wake up to have to count them again, this time for real. I swear I felt like I had worked double shifts once sleeping and once awake.

Great Idea, I'll need to try that with my DS. DH & I though absolutely love our electric mattress pad cover with dual controls. He sets his to high all night and I turn mine on long enough to take the chill off before I go to bed then turn it off as I hate being hot when I sleep.

After all Hot Flashes will be coming soon enough I don't need to simulate them with a heated mattress pad. If I still am cold in the night I just edge closer to his side for a while.
