Landers may need a new car

I really didn't want to purchase a new vehicle, but the fact that my car may cost me about 1/2 or more than the value of it to repair and I own it outright, I may end up j ust buying a new one.
I'm looking used, but not opposed to new if the price is only a little bit more than what it would cost for used.
I'm looking to try to stay in 7-10k range, but could go a little more if the car was newer and the cost was only a couple thousand more and I could keep my monthly payments reasonable.
I'm looking at maybe Mazda 3 or similar. I'd like a Sedan, but am open to a small SUV. I don't want a coupe since i carry my hockey gear with me a lot and transporting that in a smaller coupe is inconvenient.
Any suggestions on vehicles to look at?

Not going to be in my price range for a later model, unfortunately.

Also the thread got deleted before I found out: can Landers chew gum & eat a sammich at the same time?
likewise, no one was racing to buy jack in da crack after the e. coli outbreak; no one (i'm guessing) was going out and buying ford pintos in the late 70's~ when the "memo" came out/they were notorious for catching on fire, etc. people eat jack now w/o even thinking about that outbreak (i ate there last week) and people still buy fords...
i'll add that they make affordable, efficient cars like the camry/corolla. i think the prius is a joke, don't buy one. celicas are nice cars. mr2 went thru an ugly phase for a while, but are starting to look decent again. don't buy an avalon, money can be spent buying a better "luxury" car. and some of their trucks are aight.

4 door sedan, 10 year/100K warranty
$12k MSRP brand new and you can probably get it for sub $10k out the door before trade in/ money down.
Also has a $1k rebate currently.
here they are (or at least were) giving them away free with purchase of the Kia Sorrento SUV.

I just wanted an appropriate title for the thread.
