Landers may need a new car

18,933 670 October 3, 2010 at 01:53 PM in Autos
I really didn't want to purchase a new vehicle, but the fact that my car may cost me about 1/2 or more than the value of it to repair and I own it outright, I may end up j ust buying a new one.

I'm looking used, but not opposed to new if the price is only a little bit more than what it would cost for used.

I'm looking to try to stay in 7-10k range, but could go a little more if the car was newer and the cost was only a couple thousand more and I could keep my monthly payments reasonable.

I'm looking at maybe Mazda 3 or similar. I'd like a Sedan, but am open to a small SUV. I don't want a coupe since i carry my hockey gear with me a lot and transporting that in a smaller coupe is inconvenient.

Any suggestions on vehicles to look at?

Sorry, I thought you were looking for a used one.
Yeah, sure. I'm also not going to buy something that's from 2000. I'll be taking the risk if I buy used, but I won't buy anything older than a 2006 if I go used. I'll so be doing my research to find the real cost of ownership especially during the years I'll own it.

Yeah, I don't like the Mazda 2. Not a hatchback fan at all. If I'm gonna be driving the same car for the next 5+ years, I don't want something that I don't like.

Not going to be in my price range for a later model, unfortunately.
I just did a quick craigslist search and found 06-07 models going for less than 10k. For a Honda Accord, thats a later model.

I liked my '66 Plymouth Fury III classic. It didn't have any of those darned expensive computers and crap. The slant 6 engine was so simple to fix it could have the most intensive repair on the side of the road. Comfortable, around 19 MPG in the city as I recall. I recommend that. And it won't depreciate!

I just bought a Mazda CX-7 two months ago and LOVE it. I knew the minute I saw it that it was mine Smilie It was a bit more than you are willing to pay but is so worth it.

Why is Landers talkin' 'bout Landers like Landers is TheKevMaster or sumpin'?

Also the thread got deleted before I found out: can Landers chew gum & eat a sammich at the same time?

Iagree they've gotten a lot of negative press recently and that's probably why no one has told him to buy one--that doesn't mean they manufacture bad cars and should be excluded from cars for him to look at.

likewise, no one was racing to buy jack in da crack after the e. coli outbreak; no one (i'm guessing) was going out and buying ford pintos in the late 70's~ when the "memo" came out/they were notorious for catching on fire, etc. people eat jack now w/o even thinking about that outbreak (i ate there last week) and people still buy fords... Dontknow

i'll add that they make affordable, efficient cars like the camry/corolla. i think the prius is a joke, don't buy one. celicas are nice cars. mr2 went thru an ugly phase for a while, but are starting to look decent again. don't buy an avalon, money can be spent buying a better "luxury" car. and some of their trucks are aight. Big Grin

three years worth of corollas being recalled for dying engine computers isn't trivial, either. mine has been pretty much an utter failure, and I don't think I'd go back and do it again.

Kia Rio

4 door sedan, 10 year/100K warranty
$12k MSRP brand new and you can probably get it for sub $10k out the door before trade in/ money down.
Also has a $1k rebate currently.

here they are (or at least were) giving them away free with purchase of the Kia Sorrento SUV.

laugh out loud I was wondering if anything was gonna come from that thread... I saw it was all deleted in the AM so I assumed nothing.

I just wanted an appropriate title for the thread.
