SO I was in a car accident a few years back, and yada yada, I have a permanent injury to my hip flexor area. It inhibits my ability to exercise the way I used to, it hurts after sex
!!!! and sometimes it pops/clicks when I walk. It is not debilitating. I did not lose an arm or become deformed from this. I am not in a wheelchair and I didn't lose my job over this injury. However, its a pain in the ass and I'm upset that it can never go away.
So after 1/3 of it goes to legal fees, lets make bets on how much I get out of it.
Before it was deemed permanent I was offered 18k (Or about that) before the 1/3 was taken out. I'll update this if I ever get money.
And no, I am not loaning any of you money!
(If anyone remembers my thread about what you would do with a large amount of money if you won it, that is what this was about)

A trial could take a long time, but settling with an insurance comp. is pretty fast.
Been there done that twice..it sucks and the money will never fix what happened.
Good Luck
I was in an accident in the parking lot of my old apartment due to poor maintenance on their part, totaled my vespa and have a permament knee injury. Went to doctors and PT. All said and done the settlement was around, I want to say maybe $12K and I think I got less than $3K after everything was paid. I was pretty pissed about it and kinda blocked it
Did your health insurance pay for any of your treatment? If so, they get first dibs at any of your settlement.
It's no joke. It's called subrogation and your insurance company expects you to return any money that they paid if you get a settlement from anyone in connection to the accident. It cost a woman that worked for Wal-Mart over $400,000, even though that cash was earmarked by the court for her future care.
i am in ca - if that counts
already got a default judgement
Yep, been there done it - and from everyone I know that has been in the same situations - the dollar amount is normally around $10k - minus all the costs and I have seen people get as little as $3k for their actual take in the check!
Yep, lots of people are
We got hit by a 2nd car during the accident, and couldn't sue them for some reason. ( i remember it was because we were "illegal parked on the wrong side of the highway" ..umm we crashed that way..
20K per person was the max limit. You can only sue up to the limit.
My fiance now has 100k per person and 300k per accident because we own a home now, so no one can sue against the house or civil. But most people only have the minimal 20k.

I'm sorry you went thru such hell with all of the above - and came out with so little
Might I ask on a lighter note - is this why Cheeto's are so important in your life.
That all you can remember after the six months is being bathed in Cheeto's

AND your lawyer has no right to claim any part of that.... Just a word to the wise.....I had a claim ...well it was a while back now ...BUT a friend of mine ( who is a lawyer) told me about some of the inner stuff... Good Luck...I would never want to go thru that again !!
Oh but mine was NOT a car accident either...I was in a store and a kid on a fork lift dropped cabinets on my head...(SERIOUSLY)...Really Hurt ..stupid kid !!
