Man, I've seen a lot of things on the web and there have been few times that it's so shocking, it haunts me. This is one of those WTF....For some reason, Amazon selling : "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure" just leaves me speechless. I buy everything from Amazon except for food....I don't know if I'll be shopping at Amazon anytime soon...just my opinion.

Police have arrested the author of a twisted book entitled 'The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-lover's Code of Conduct'.

Philip Ray Greaves II was arrested after he sold and mailed a signed copy of his book to undercover police officers.

'He very proudly sold us his personal copy,' Polk Sheriff Grady Judd told the Associated Press.

'I was outraged by the content. It was clearly a manifesto on how to sexually batter children ... You just can't believe how absolutely disgusting it was.'

Greaves was arrested at his home in Pueblo, Colorado for violating Florida's obscenity laws.

His paedophilia guide was pulled from Amazon.com last month after it sparked an online uproar.

It is not clear how the book made it on to Amazon.com in the first place.

The book included first-person descriptions of sexual encounters, purportedly written from a child's point of view.

Sick man. But I'm confused how he can legally sell the book (on amazon) but get arrested for giving it away for free (via mail to police)?

Dontknow Florida's obscenity laws? So he mailed it to undercover cops in Florida, but was then arrested in Colorado? Scratchhead

Oh here:

Quote :
Sheriff Judd said he and his detectives got Greaves to sell the book to them for $50. He sent it through the mail and told officers it was his last copy.
Sheriff Judd, known throughout Florida as a crusader against child predators, said he was incensed when he heard about the book and that no one had arrested Greaves for selling it.
'What's wrong with a society that has gotten to the point that we can't arrest child pornographers and child molesters who write a book about how to rape a child?' Sheriff Judd said.
'If we can get jurisdiction ... we're coming after you,' Sheriff Judd said.
'There's nothing in the world more important than our children.'
Greaves is being charged with distribution of obscene material depicting minors engaged in conduct harmful to minors.

Judging by the the comments people have posted on news sites concerning this, most people are just happy they nailed this guy. It appears few stop to consider the implications this raises concerning freedom of speech in this country. While this guy may deserve to be in jail for other reasons, no one in this country should ever be jailed for what they say or write, no matter how repulsive it might be. Allowing this opens the door for the government to punish anyone who says something it doesn't like. I applaud Amazon for supporting freedom of speech as much as it did.

I hope this case gets thrown out. I have no sympathy for him, but the Constitution should never be trampled like this. I can't understand how that Florida law could possibly be considered constitutional. They should have to go back to the drawing board and go after this guy for actually doing something legitimately illegal.

Laurie Shorter, spokeswoman for the Pueblo County Sheriff's Department, said Greaves would be held in the county jail on the Florida charge.

Outrage: The cover of Greaves' book
He was being booked Monday morning and it was unclear if he has an attorney. Sheriff Judd said Greaves could be in Florida as early as Monday night.
'If he will waive extradition, it's my goal for him to eat processed turkey on Christmas Day in the Polk County Jail,' Sheriff Judd said.
Okay, that part made me laugh out loud

He's certainly a sick man, but I'm not particularly "glad they got him". What exactly did he do wrong? Writing despicable things is not illegal. There is no evidence that he did anything illegal. I'm not for censorship.

I'm glad they got him because my cousin was molested when she was younger, and my aunt was molested and raped when she was 16 and got pregnant by her step-grandfather. This man is making a mockery of victims everywhere. I understand freedom of speech, but that's going way over the line.

Uh, did he rape them? What is his crime? Do we live in a society where instead of being punished for crimes, we're punished for what we say or write or think? Mocking someone is poor form but it's not illegal. And you're 100% wrong, there IS no line when it comes to freedom of speech, that's the whole point of freedom of speech. It's not to protect "nice" speech, everybody likes nice speech, it doesn't need to be protected. This is exactly what freedom of speech is meant to protect, the very worst of speech. Saying or writing something is not illegal. The minute you propose a "line" to freedom of speech is the moment it no longer exists.

Because it's just writing, it's not pictures or video. It's not illegal.
