I always have trouble deciding what kind of tree to use every year - the years we get a real one, the pine needles are such a damned pain, we're like "yeah, let's use the artificial this year" and the years we use the artificial, I'm like "awww, I miss having a real tree!"
I haven't checked for Christmas items there in a couple years, though, but there's usually some good options for things like that.

Growing up, we always put these really cheap ornaments at the bottom for the cats (like those ones that are covered in that fine thread) and they would just play with those most of the time. Of course every couple of days, we'd have to find them all and put them back on the bottom of the tree.
I've never been a fan of eating desserts that are supposed to look like a main course, or eating main courses that are designed to look like desserts. I'm sure it takes a certain amount of creativity and work but... it's like eating blue mashed potatoes. Sure, the coloring doesn't alter the flavor, but it's just not the same...
