As near as I can tell the first 11 posts (along with the rest of the thread) pretty much summarize the origin of Br00ce.
edit: 2005
That is the question!

Does anyone else remember a rule against using "Br00ce"(or any variation of) in regards to n00bs?
It reminds me of how my parents never allowed my brother and me to call each other "jerk".
For the record, I think I called Schoobs a br00ce just the other day.
Yep...I did.
Oh you are falling into this wording trap too
Bruce - Br00ce - see the difference and Bunny's question - they are not the same
No winner, until Bunny goes and finds the first Br00ce posting

It still didn't stop me from using the term though

It is Slickdeals policy to welcome anyone and everyone in the Lounge, especially new people who have never been here before. Every one of us was a n00b at one point.
Lately, there has been a lot of hostility towards n00bs or all the cute little names that you have been calling them. Today, it stops.
There will be no more discussion of Br00ces, or how PW's are better than n00bs, or whatever ridiculous things you have been posting lately. Such posts will garner trolling warnings, and enough of them will get you a ban.
I encourage you all to use the Mod Alert feature to bring such nonsense posts to our attention.
Everyone is welcome to post here. We are not and never will be some kind of exclusive club. If you find that you are not able to welcome new people and you find that you can't be friendly toward them, then I suggest you find another place to post.
n00bsBr00ces with open arms ever since.https://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?
