Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Okay, I'm bored. Are there any other sites with a fun contest running right now?

Perhaps surprisingly perhaps not, but IBM uses internally the Opera browser for a number of their recovery programs. ( www.opera.com )

I do find that some web pages do not load properly, if they are using some of the flash calls that are out-dated and the web master has not up graded his /her code.

It is much quicker than IE. I also maintain the speed ny using "Advanced System Care" free version, from www.iobit.com

thanks, I will have my hubbie check it out, he is more into the technical end.

Did everyone hear on the news about the Message in a Bottle that was written in code from the Civil War? ....they had never been able to decipher the code. Recently, a "retired CIA codebreaker" was able to decipher it. I guess basically it said: "No help coming from this side of the river." I think it had been written July 4, 1863.

I'm thinking it could only have been our MVario?

Just an FYI - I was the only member on my team to order my prize before the addition of the extra points. I never called Marlboro as the extra points didn't effect my order. I received an email from M on Monday evening asking me to call if I wished to change my order - otherwise it would ship on the 12th.

The other three team members that ordered after the extra points did not receive an email.

It was a Vigenère cipher. The Gronsfeld cipher that Marlboro used is a variation of the Vigenère cipher. They took too long to solve it because they did it by analysis instead of looking for a crib for the key. A little research on Wikipedia reveals that the south typically used just one of three keys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vige...8re_cipher) and it was one of those, in this case "Manchester Bluff", that was used for that message. Knowing it was a southern message from the Civil War we would have found the key just doing research faster than they cracked it.

I received the email from Marlboro about adjusting the points and called today. Someone named Debbie told me she couldn't adjust the points because the coupons had already shipped and she coudn't cancel them, so I am stuck with the 50 late points. Did anyone else get hosed like this?

I called and asked if I could use the 50 points towards a bonus gift and they offered me a choice of a mug, ashtray or lighter. You may want to try that.

It just blows 'cause they send coupons just about every month anyway. I thought it was wierd that they made you spend 75 points on them in the first place.
