Go hang out at the barber shop in the ghetto part of town. You'll eventually come across something you like.

My mom buys the $300-$400 bags and they have lasted her for years. She has kept them about 7-10 years... so in the end... about $30/yr for a nicer bag, why not? You would probably end up spending more than $30/yr on a purse anyway.

Going with the "you get what you pay for" crowd.

Coach has a lifetime warranty on all their products.

Sure, there are some exceptions, but buying an expensive handbag will last for years and never go out of style.

Denim is a pretty durable fabric, you're not paying for longevity once you get past the really cheap bargain brands. You're paying either for comfort or style. Personally I pay for comfort, Tommy Hilfiger jeans fit me the best and they cost about $30 at the outlets, $50 at department stores without a sale. Anyone spending $200+ for jeans is not buying them because they last longer. A few might be buying them because they love the fit, but most are buying them for style or the name on the tag. There's nothing wrong with that, but the justification is not "you get what you pay for". Those jeans are not lasting you longer.

I pay for comfort and style. For me I can tell the difference between brand like Joes and TR versus Tommy. I have bought Express denim. I don't wear it as often plus it shrinks and doesn't last as long. When buying clothing you determine the price by figuring out the cost per time that you wear it. In the end even if I paid retail for jeans I would still come out cheaper if you think of it like that. If you know how to shop you can get the designer brands for just a little more than you would pay for TH, Calvins, or Express. I think of jeans as an investment, and the nicer denim does hold up longer plus it looks better longer. My most expensive pair of jeans doesn't even have a logo on it laugh out loud.

Handbags in that price range generally have handles and some means of closure to secure bag contents.
Even Coach.
They also usually have that annoyingly high-maintenance accessory attached to the handle.

Well Betsey has her handbags branded two ways. Betseyville, which are usually the less expensive bags. And then the Betsey Johnson handbags. Some of her stuff makes my eyes hurt but some of it is cute.

I think the new "it" bag right now is Tory Burch. All you have to do is have Oprah mention your name and wow!! I got the grey flannel one for Christmas that was one of Oprahs favorite things. It's exactly what I wanted but if I had to ask Santa again I would ask for something like this....

(There's a red one similar to this on Ebay that is amazing. Drool)

Or this for spring....
