Well....since it got brought over here I'm gonna "weigh" in .

I do have children. I have not a problem with screaming children, however the ball incident that got relayed ,reminds me of the cashier at Target a little while back that Ran ino my shopping cart with one of those electric carts, pushing the shopping cart into my ribs. Left me black and blue. Not an iota or anything resembling an apology , it is not acceptable for a child to ,or an adult ,to hit another person with any object with no apology. The lack of apology on that mothers part, is part of why ,as that one woman said this is "part of life" .
It shouldn't be. We model behavior for our children and as we all know they are watching even when we don't think they are ., I have to wonder, if the girl that ran into me with that electric thing wasn't this woman's, young adult daughter. There really is no excuse for lack of simple civility. I will be quiet., now.

Hey guys, anyone know where I can find any Slimfast coupons?
I had been finding a printable on redplum.com but I just checked and didn't see it there Sadwalk I don't *think* theirs disappear after you've printed like some but I could be wrong so you might double check. $1/1 was a good deal when you could find the single bars for between $1-$1.50.

The ball to the head story is completely different from the scowling about kids making noise in stores. I've heard the grousing enough and it tires me. I'm tired of people assuming that because a child doesn't look handicapped that there isn't an issue somewhere. That the parent isn't just ignoring the child, or doesn't care, or the thinly veiled aspersions about bad parenting. People should not assume.

I know I should back away but I can't because the topic hits too close to home. Not because I think my kids are precious darlings that can do no wrong, I am the first to discipline them at home or in public and profusely apologize to everyone around. No one can tell by looking at him that my 58 inch tall 8 yr old son isn't a 10- 12 yr old acting inappropriately- his maturity level is about 4 yrs old. I can't put a sign on him that says, hey I have autism don't stare (though there are some awesome smart ass shirts that I have thought about getting!). I don't let him get away with things but there is no way a casual observer can tell that from a brief interaction in a store.

Ok, off my Soap Box Rant not directed at you Cathi, it's what I would love to say to some of the perfect people that posted. Being a child psychologist is not the same as being a parent.

Amen. Before I had kids I knew all about how to deal with them (I had a little experience w/ neurotypical kids). Then I had boys. 2 of them. Both on the autism spectrum. Everything I ever knew about behavior was out the window. 1 reached 100 lbs in Kindergarten & was quite tall (no, he wasn't obese). So everyone thought he was much older, while in fact he was behind peers. We had some interesting times. Smilie
Now, I don't dare open my mouth, except to offer help, bc I've been there/done that. Say something rude about my kids - momma bear's gonna get ya.Evil
(FF to present - if you care to know. Both are doing quite well, almost recovered from autism. Big 'un, (6'8", 280 lbs, sophomore) wants to play college football.
The runt (6'1", 145 lbs, 7th grade) is in all advanced placement classes.)

I felt like screaming this at a guy at a Target this afternoon. He was on his cell and talking so loudly. I could easily hear every word of his conversation two aisles over. Idiot.

I do understand! My son is improved so much over the time when he was 3-5 years old. Those years were a nightmare to me. Yet to someone in a store, he looked like he was 2 or more years older so I got the comments, the stares, the rude remarks. Like you, I offer help or try to offer a soothing remark to defuse the tension I know that parent must be feeling. Things like, oh I remember those days/ wow my son does that kind of thing too. Something to let them know someone else has been there and can empathize with them.

One of my favorite phrases is, people aren't looking at me because I'm a bad parent. They are looking at me because I am the parent of a toddler. Fits many situations.

My son is projected to be 6'6. His younger brother (nt, like night and day) will be a little shorter. He's currently 3 inches shorter than the older son was at this same age.

Jamie,

You now have to give up your Mean Spirited description. Very nice of you to do that for Bunnies.

How about giving out Super Sticky Post Its for Halloween?
Believe it or not, I didn't get in on the Post-it note things.

Went to Kohl's and got tons of crap. Just need to get the 5/5 to combine.

I wish I had never tried the k cups. I was completely happy using the filter and my own coffee in the Keurig, until I tasted the coffee from the cups. I now have an indulgent addiction to feed and I drink way to much coffee laugh out loud

LOL, my 2 are also like night & day. Kids on the spectrum are SO different from each other. Mine are physically different, behaviorally different, & medically different. (Very difficult when trying to learn how to deal w/ & recover autistic kids Big Grin).
I guess the whole ordeal has made me a much more compassionate person (not to mention MUCH older, grayer, fatter, etc. than I should be). Wink
Looks like both of us will have those issues w/ expectations from others that are not age appropriate for our kids.Embarrassment
Good luck!

My DH sold a pack of my Charmin stash today. EEK! I need to find a better hiding place.

Was the candy GC deal only this week? Didn't quite use all my coupons.
