Honeycrisp apples are the BEST! -yummy!!! Just like they are named, they are super crisp and really sweet. drool If you have never tried one, you are missing out (said w/o arrogance) Wink

I think they are only available for a limited time in the fall - my stores are just starting to carry them. They are more expensive than the "regular" apples so not a slick deal but a yummy one!
Quote from lisapdreamer :
They are like CRACK! Yummmm, I crave them all year, then OD on them! My parents had a honeycrisp tree back in ND, it was finally getting big enough to share!

Those Honeycrisp apples are very yummy. I had one for the first time last year and they were awesome. I can't wait to get more of them.

All of this apple talk makes me hungry for turkey and dressing.

Ours went down from $2.49 to $1.99/lb. at T. here. Kinda sad that that in and of itself is a slick deal Teehee But hey, that means I can pick up one each time I go for almost-free...the ones at our store at least are fairly heavy. And I think I've tried every store's now and I think Target's have the best flavor!

I think it may have been referring to the whole 'not staying silent' thing with how Ellen (DeGeneres) made that video about 'not staying silent' about bullying/cyber-bullying after the Tyler Clementi death in the news??? It was circulating around FB and such the past week or so......but I could be wrong too Big Grin

bunnies, are you feeling any better today? how about you gt?
hug to both of you and healthy thoughts.
gt, when i'm really nauseous this is what works for me: slice some ginger, sprinkle a bit of salt and some lemon juice. mix well. then just chew on those ginger pieces. regardless of the cause the nausea, this always alleviates it. if you don't like the taste of ginger, or find it too hot, nature's bounty has capsules with powdered ginger in them. ginger is known for it's anti-nausea properties so maybe that will help.

Anyone have some "diet" apple recipes?
jilly, have never seen treadmills at T. however, on craigslist people are routinely giving away treadmills to make space in their basements, after buying one and not using. so i'd recommend perusing cl.

apple recipes... two:
on the today show couple of weeks ago they had a recipe for "apple french fries" in a segment on kid-approved recipes. they turn out yummy, but i cut back drastically on the sugar and instead of using 2 tsps of white sugar used just a half teaspoon of brown sugar per recipe portion, so that it caramelizes. recipe is here [msn.com]

second recipe: on the barefoot contessa show, ina garten prepared a butternut squash soup for house beautiful magazine. cube butternut squash, apples and onions, toss with some olive oil salt and pepper and roast in the oven. puree with a little bit of stock. pour pureed mix into pot, add more stock to liquefy. add some curry powder and cook. then serve with garnishings. i bought the ingredients today. it is rainy and cold... going to make this soup and garlic toast tomorrow. have to buy some curry powder. recipe is here [housebeautiful.com]

for those of you that have a whole foods near you: organic butternut squash (and squashes of all kinds) are 99c/lb on sale there. org apples of most varieties are 1.49/lb and a 5 lb bag of organic onions is 3.99, regular onions are less... and you can also get both conventional and organics loose of course. but from anywhere between 5-10 bucks you could have a humungous pot of freshly made butternut squash soup to serve, freeze, keep in fridge for ready leftovers etc. this is my new thing - make big pots of veggie-rich (gt are you listening? laugh out loud ), low-fat soups and have a few of them avail in fridge, so when hunger strikes, one can warm up a bowl of filling soup, instead of snacking on some empty calorie thing. it's fewer calories and much healthier.

totally agree with you on the ignore feature. i finally used it for someone a few months ago. it's fabulous.

no need to go anywhere. it's all now conveniently relocated to this thread. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)
you know what we need on SD? a target drama dump thread. and every time mods need to find a place to dump a bunch of back and forth angry posts, they'll have that convenient location. plus, no one need feel out of place, because just like in real life, there will once again be a place for everyone - wheelers and dealers get their thread, chatterboxes theres, debaters theres. ahhh, zen.

now who posted about the 2.00 socks in deals? mama2cole was it you? want to rep but can't find the post. a search for socks brings up too many. laugh out loud

Darvocet is darvon and acetominafen (Tylenol) so you can alternate it with aspirin of ibuprofen. So you can take something in between and be keeping a more consistent level of pain killer and analgesic in your system. Try every two or 3 hours aspirin, darvocet, aspirin, darvocet, etc. (or acetaminophen if you prefer). I have even thrown a Naproxin into the mix... I think it's every twelve hours. That's miserable, hope you get some relief soon.

gt - i hope you're feeling better. do you like beans? made a mixed bean soup with veggies that's delicious.
Most beans, other than green beans, are still way too high in carbs. But if it's green beans or some other really low carb bean that I am not thinking of, sure.

I am feeling better. I'm taking the Mucinex knock off brand from Dollar General every 4 hours and that has really made a difference. I didn't take it in the night and I could sure tell this morning. One more reason to buy the name brand and not the knock off. I'm finishing up this bottle and will buy the expensive stuff from now on. The nausea is much better.

It just irritates me that I have let this derail my diet. A little disappointed in myself, I guess. I will get back on track.

Anyway... those of you doing low/no carb diets, how soon do you start to notice the weight coming off?.
Quote from love2beeamom :
Nope, you aren't the only one.. When I stick to my low carb eating, I rarely ever feel hungry. I need to remind myself to eatSmilie

If you have been on it a week, you should have lost something.. When I did low carb the first time and lost 150 pounds, I dropped 16 pounds the first 2 weeks.. This time, much older, slower metabolism and thyroid disorder.. I dropped 9 pounds the first 2 weeks.. so, like everything, it just depends on the individual.
I sear love2bee and I are living in parallel weight loss universes. She is right, the low carb really doesn't leave you feeling hungry and deprived if you plan accordingly.

I lost about 30 the last time I did it and at that time 30 was all I needed to lose. I think the biggest benefit was that I also kept the weight off for several years. I did think differently about food. No, I didn't continue on severe low carb never eating bread or cake but I ate a lot less and just did things differently out of habit -- little things like mayo not Miracle Whip, less dressing on a salad, etc. So, when I did have ice cream or cookies, it was ok. I gained the weight back and then some -- a whole lotta some -- when my thyroid decided to take a hike.

This time, I started losing right away. But, the last time, I didn't start losing immediately. My husband did. I knew he would lose more and faster than I did, he's bigger, male, more physically active. I'm not stupid, but geez, he was losing weight and a month -- an entire freaking month -- went by and I had lost a pound or two. I was the one planning the meals, measuring, counting, doing all the planning and prep and HE was losing weight. I have no idea why I didn't lose immediately, most people do. But, after the first month of not losing I lost a lot the second month.
Quote from myluvjustice :
I feel good that I'm loosing a little but its only been 6 pounds in two weeks so its very slowwwly.

I've been doing low carbs because no carbs is extremely hard,
6 lbs. in two weeks is actually really good. It's also impossible to do NO carbs -- unless you literally don't eat anything but meat. Even lettuce has some carbs -- very few but still some. I stick with 20 net carbs per days -- which is what Atkins limits to for induction. I can't say that I exactly follow Atkins, but pretty dang close. (Total Carbs - Fiber = Net Carbs)
Quote from stacymg :
We need to get a water softner too. I know less than nothing about them, any tips on what to look for in one?
Yeah, go to a home store like Menards, Home Depot or Lowes and buy one. The size is determined by how hard your water is and how many people live there -- water usage. We just bought the cheaper 28,000 grain size from Menards for $360 on sale. We have city water with a lot of lime and calcium. 3 people in the house but we use a LOT of water.

In our other house, that is now a rental, we have very hard well water. The first one we put in we a more expensive one from Sears, I think. It died. The last one was from Menards, it was $400 and has been there for probably 10 years. Our renter does use it so it has been working just fine all these years.

The last place we lived, we actually rented one. We never rent, we always buy, it's almost always cheaper in the long run. HA! That town had such horribly hard water that the average water softener had a 4 year life span. A local business installed and rented them for $11 a month. That was cheaper than replacing every 4 years. And yep, 4 or 5 years down the line -- it died and they had to put in a new one.
So, my advice, I suppose, is get one and put it in. Or if you can't do the plumbing yourself, hire a plumber to install it. But don't buy a $1,200 one from one of those water softener places.

Does Target carry treadmills? Are they real expensive?
Try used stores and yard sales. Maybe radio call in shows, local Craigslist or for sale boards.

No diet ones, but I have a fresh apple cake recipe that is good. I used to have apple trees. I made apple pies and froze them. It was so nice to be able to get in the freezer, grab one, shove it in the oven and have fresh, hot, homemade pie in a few hours. (Make the pie, double bag in freezer bags, freeze it unbaked. When you want to bake it, take it out of the freezer and put directly into the oven. Bake at about 250 degrees for 3 - 4 hours.)
