Anybody here know much about the differences in the index of lenses? I posted a question here in the lounge.
A lot of that will depend on your RX. If you are significantly farsighted or near sighted, it will make a big difference. If your rx is "mild", then it won't make that huge of a deal as far as noticeable thickness goes. The benefits (if you aren't looking for something ultra thin and light weight) come from how the high index lenses refract light - it gives you a little better and clearer vision. If you have a higher RX, you will likely notice it more than someone on the average side.

You said you wear progressives, right? I would highly recommend the high-index lenses in that case. If I remember correctly, the option isn't that much more expensive on zenni? Typically, the high-index progressives are better quality, clearer vision, allow for shorter channels, and clearer side vision.

Hellooooo errbody wave I am back from our cold and windy Vaca to Myrtle Beach. I am seriouily considering writting a letter to the hotel about how all the little things just made our stay really suck in the end. Like the kiddie pools heat was totally broken and the maitainence guy was like "Hum, yep Its broken or something - guess it's like try again next time!" Then the hotels hot water went out and we couldn't shower for 2 days - maybe if it was still 90 degrees outside but the luke cold shower water was unbearable. Then even the indoor pool was cool. I had to empty my own trash because they olny offer maid servce on your third day of stay and they only give you a 8 galllon trash can!?!

Ugh, anyway I see that I have missed a lot - can anyone send me Wink what I missed Wink Wink
I did stop at the T down there but all the bath stuff was gone except for 2 matching towel bars and the matching tp holder so I picked them up for -$5 all together I was hoping to get some more of the 2 pack chair 75% but they were still at 30% EEK!, then we did a big Kohls run - DS#1 did one tranny, DH did 2 in a row, then we went to the other reg DH did 2 trannys then the girl would only let me do 1 because she felt sorry for DH because he had all these kids - and I was like I have all these kids! But anywho We got our new towel collection started.
Kohls towels ot t towels ??
Yeah for towels.
I really the Kohls ones ,just replaced the ones I had from there from 5 years ago ..free after $5.00 Q and if you can use 2 you can get 3 towels a q .

Oh, darn you jillyq. I love Burt's Bees!

Just found out my only credit card just lowered my available credit and now I have less than $100 available credit.I was diligently paying it off so I had money to move (and basically charge it back up for truck/gas/etc)- NO idea how the fark I am going to move now. I have just enough money in the bank to cover my payments, but not enough to shell out the cash for a moving truck.

I am so royally screwed and I am about thisclose to digging into those free Butterfingers I got at Publix this week...

Ok, here's the Zenni scoop:
1.57 Progressive (no-line multi-focal) @ $21.95
1.59 Poly Carbonate Progressive (no-line multi-focal) @ $39.00
1.61 Progressive (no-line multi-focal) @ $49.00
1.67 Progressive (no-line multi-focal) @ $67.00.

My old Rx is -3.50 with a +2.25 add. If there is any change at all, it won't be much.

I checked my invoice for my current pair and it's pretty nonspecific. Just says no line multifocal. The price is within $1 of what it would be now for the frames and the poly carb. I can call them when I get back from my appointment and see what I have now. I really think they are the 1.59 poly carb.

Hmmm, they are all some kind of plastic, aren't they? There aren't actually glass glasses anymore, are there?

Price isn't really a concern. Even with the most expensive lenses they will still be under $100. I just don't see any reason to spend the extra $30 - $40 if there isn't going to be a noticeable difference.

I do, however, plan to order a couple extra pair of the magnetic sunglasses. Cool And if I order the same ones I have now, I still have 2 pair -- one is still brand new.

I think after this little bit of fun, I am going to order a second pair also.

gt, I ordered the girls each a pair of RX sunglasses using the 80% gray tint. They look great! It was a better option for them than getting the magnetic clips.

Hang in the kalli. You don't need those nasty things. They are just gonna make you feel bloated and icky and then you will feel all bad about yourself.

HEY GET BACK HERE. Get away from that candy. You DO NOT WANT IT.

Now, the move.... can you have a yard sale to raise the money? Do you really have enough stuff to move that you need a moving van? Can you get by without it? Will the bank do a 60 or 90 day loan? Family member, maybe?

I have considered them but I just hate the idea of having to switch back and forth. But if we start boat fishing more, I definitely will. You should see what I do when we are in the boat.... I take a little piece of the wire from a bread tie, strip off the plastic and secure my clip-on to my glasses. laugh out loud

I have also considered getting a pair of progressives but I sit right next to a giant picture window with a double window behind me. I have this vision of them darkening in the house.

Hmm, thanks for bringing this up. hug If I do order a second pair. I think I will get the progessives. Then I will have two pair and I can decide kind I prefer. If nothing else, I can use them for boat fishing and leave the twist ties in the cabin!

Okay okay, made some hot tea instead and eating a kiwi.

I had a yard sale last weekend to raise the money for my car payment, not sure I have enough to even justify another sale. I have more stuff than will fit in my car (I have a Civic) and I wanted to at least take my furniture, you know?

Bank won't loan (made lots of bad financial decisions in college that are still haunting me). Family pretty much has all the same problems with finances. :/

I think I'll try and put a few things up on eBay and/or Craigslist and pray pray pray that they sell. I have nice things (from my former stupid college life), but haven't been able to sell them previously. I hope that if I go cheap enough, luck will be on my side.

I can only wear glasses at night, so I always buy cheap ones, even though they're always super super thick (contacts are a -14.50!)

It has taken forever to put the house back together, but we have clean carpets free of poooooop! woot

We went to Disneyland too, it was fun but a really, really, long drive. At least we got one sunny day at the beach in. It is hard to catch a sunny day at the beach when your only there three or four days. I really wanted to test out the Target right neat Disney but didn't get a chance to shop.

Thanks again for the cheese info.. I found the organic string cheese. I would never have seen it if you hadn't told me right where it was.. That stuff wasn't with the other deli cheeses like you would think. Mine was hiding in a little basket almost out of sight. I
I did grab 5 more of the strawberry applesauce packs, but I am seriously running out of room to store them. Today I am planing on cleaning the pantry out. Good thing is, the expiration dates are far out. SOme are April 2011 and some are October 2011..
I know what you mean about focusing to much on the problems and letting all the struggles and problems get in the way of appreciating all the good things we have in life. It certaintly helps to focus on the blessings we take advantage of everyday.

I know where to look for the string cheese now, one of lilBs favorites but I missed the info on the applesauce, strawberry applesauce is DDs favorite. If you don't mind, what coupon and what brand/location of applesauce. Trying to get a shopping trip together and we are out of everything.

I want to play Barbies! I only got to play Matchbox cars!
My DDs have outgrown playing with Barbies now but it was fun, kinda. One year we got DD some Barbies for her BDay with a bunch of clothes and she was to young, I guess, since she could not get the clothes on and off by herself (those barbie type dolls have long stickyish legs!). DH was being patient and helping her change outfits and then he told DD "Ok that is it, let your doll play in those clothes for awhile." Of course she wanted her dolls clothes changed again a few minutes later and I told him, what else are you supposed to do with Barbies? I think the point is to change clothes a lot, well and pretend to be a grown up. lol
I have spent the morning playing cars, DS thinks my legs and arms are roads so I have been getting run over all morning. I am so glad he is in a good mood today. He has been so fun to play with and snuggle.

I do put off cleaning to play with him. It is just more fun and he will be off to school before I know it. Although it is really embarassing when someone stops by and there is a pile of dishes in the sink. Oh well!

Babies Don't Keep
Cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow...
For babies grow up,
we've learned to
our sorrow...
So quiet down cobwebs...
dust go to sleep...
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep!!

Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

I do want a maid though! That would be so nice, to have someone to clean so I can spend more time with my lil ones. I can never get enough done during nap time (IF there is nap time) to get the house done.

Nah, no gold.

I hate selling stuff I went into debt to get, though. Young and stupid, but live and learn.

Yeah, that part should be the same. However, you should have also gotten an eyeglass Rx when you got your contact lens Rx. You can call and ask them for it. They have to give it to you. If it's expired, tell then you don't care, you just want it for comparison.

Zenni has single vision glasses starting at $8 + $5 shipping. Shipping is $5 no matter how many you buy.

Okay - if you have standard plastic, you will notice a difference. If you have poly carb and go with high index, you will notice *some* difference, but not as much as going from plastic to high index. Your biggest issue is edge thickness, so a smaller frame (if you can do one) would be better for you. Also, if you go rimless, they'll be thicker on the edges. If you *do* want a rimless option, you could see if they have an option to polish the edges - it'll make it nice and clear on the edges and then the thickness won't be as noticeable. I would still consider going to the the high index if you are currently in polycarb - it does give you clearer vision.

Glass glass is possible to get, but rare because of the shatter danger, weight, and high cost to make.

As for the transitions/photochromic lenses - they will not likely change while you are sitting indoors unless your windows are super old. I believe it is now standard for housing windows to contain a uv coating that will hinder the change. Also, they will not change behind the windshield of a car for this reason.

Another note - I like the transitions for the fact that I don't have to switch glasses or remember to take another pair with me - and if I'm running inside then outside for a while, they are nice. However, *I* need something when driving, so I do have a pair of sunglasses for the car. If you wear hats outside, the lenses may not change as dark also. Also, if you are very sensitive to light and are choosing a small frame/lens, you may want to go with a regular pair of sunglasses. With sunglasses, you can go big and get the coverage you want, yet still be stylish and fun.

Also, if you are out on a boat and lose your regular pair of glasses over the side (it happens... a lot), then you are SOL.

I'd double check with your doc - a lot of times your RX can be different. Even if it's expired, they should be able to give you a copy of your RX.
