This week I was building my daughter a window seat / bookshelves for all her new (used) books we got last weekend at Goodwill. Now, with all her books on the shelves, she still has a ton of open space on her bookshelves, so now she thinks she needs more books.

It wasn't my preference for colors, but lilac is her new favorite color (was blue last week, and pink before that), so it had to be lilac. Fabric, also her choice, is monkeys in karate outfits. She loves it though, she's slept on it the last two nights. It's 24"w x 67" l x 21" h, so it's perfect for a spare bed for her room. I wish I would have bought the 2" foam, instead of the 1" though.
Love the idea and love that you built it without an alcove or anything to put it in. I never thought about building one just because I like them! My girls would ADORE this in their room. heart Great job!

I haven't been to T and tried a y GC deals. But I was wondering -- why can't you go through the line, buy the crap, use the coupons, and pay. THEN, go to customer service and say hey I didn't get my GCs give em to me now. Won't they fix it just like they would a price mistake or missed coupon?

So, Kalli, are you moving right now -- as in that is why you are driving?
The register prompts for most GC deals as the items are rang up. That should work with the GC deals that you have to have the physical coupon for the GC though. I still have a few of the SB GC coupons left from the inserts.

Start early -- like a month ago. Learn to say no. What do you get behind and bombarded with? Seriously, start doing a lot of it way ahead. My cookies used to always get done early since I store the in the freezer anyway -- they don't freeze solid so you can take them out on the spur of the moment to serve. MMMM and they are nice and soft. I hate hard cookies. Ok, enough. There will be no cookies this year.

*snip*
I am determine to do just that this year --- and I've started early Teehee I did not know you can do that with cookies. Just sugar cookies or what? Frosted or do you frost them after you take them out of the freezer? Sounds like a plan to me! There's never been cookies here but I'm thinking there could be cookies instead of other goodies if I could make it in advance and it was this easy. Roll

In honor of my bday I am not counting WW points today. I've still eaten pretty normal/decent all day but we are having pizza for dinner and I promised myself I would just have fun, no blotting of grease off the pizza, eat however much I want etc. Though my appetite has definitely changed a lot and I get too full when I try to eat too much. My mom offered to make a cake complete with her homemade yum-o frosting (which has plenty of shortening, sugar, etc. in it yummy) and it didn't even sound good. Requested pumpkin bars with a little cream cheese frosting instead. They can't be quite as bad as cake right?? Stick Out Tongue

I ALWAYS wanted one growing up, but my dad never made me one. Even though he made everything else, he is a contractor/carpenter, and very creative. One summer we had the utility room of our house as a club house, since my dad detached it from the house and moved it across the driveway so he could put a basement with an underground tunnel that went from the house to the garage. I heart that tunnel, it was all cement, and had an incline before it, so it made a great roller skating place. He did move that room back (it was a big room too, like 12' x 20') and reattached it to the house.

If you use 2" padding, it also would make a great spare bed for sleep-overs, or the impromptu house guest (for kids to sleep on, and guests get the regular bed). I haven't decided what I am going to put in the storage part of the bench, probably spare blankets. If I let my DD put her toys in it, they will just stay in there forever, because she will never get around to digging out the ones in the bottom.

I am considering making another one, but the size of a twin mattress, as a bed for my son. This time, I need to make sure I measure, and not use a level. My driveway is not level at all (only place I have to build things), which I realized about half-way thru, which made everything a nightmare, trying to get it relatively straight after that. If you look closely at the pic of the top being held up, there is a 1" gap on the left side where the bookshelves don't quite meet the back. It was the best I could do at that point. Turned out well though.

Thanks Smilie

My mom always froze cookies (she still probably has some in her freezer from god-knows-when). Sugar cookies, freeze w/o frosting. Thumbprints, w/o jelly, most others, just as you normally would. My mom always put them in tupperware (real tupperware) with wax paper in between layers. You can just pull out a few here and there (if you have those cravings), and warm them in the microwave (for immediate satisfaction), or just let them defrost some.

I am pretty sure you could just freeze the dough too. Just extend the cooking time by a few mins.

FYI - Oct. is National Pizza Month, so celebrate it and Happybday

if so, if the bottles are still sealed and unexpired, some organizations that provide medical care overseas (Dominican, Haiti etc) might take it. also some states have laws allowing patients to donate sealed, unexpired meds to designated pharmacies/clinics etc that can redistribute.

here [ncsl.org] is a list of states and what they allow.
Thanks for the link!

We could walk around looking for people with their outer eyebrows missing and start passing it out. What do ya think?
Quote from gt6mk31 :
Seriously, though, missing the outer part of your eyebrows is one of the symptoms that almost all hypothyroid people have. Before everything kind of went to hell and I determined something was seriously wrong -- I kept wondering how I was plucking my eyebrows in way to far since I was being so extra careful not too. Never gave it a thought that it was a sign of something else. Just figured I was tweezer happy.
Okay, so I just had a bulb moment. I had no idea that my eyebrows were related to my hypothyroidism... I was having the same thoughts as you - I even stopped tweezing my outer brows. DOH!!

Free package of any Kahiki product.

Quote from shoppegirl :
I watched this video: http://mmstream.com/kahiki_admin/...rocer.html
and at the end you can type in your address and they will send you a coupon for a free package of any Kahiki product!

Kahiki is in the frozen aisle of your supermarket and I've only found them at my local Harris Teeter where they are $4.xx

The tempura chicken (which is more like sweet and sour chicken) is my favorite and is the only Kahiki product I get. I personally prefer fresh veggies to frozen so I don't like the Kahiki meals and the Kahiki eggrolls are like any other frozen eggrolls or eggrolls from a cheap Chinese place - they don't compare to my homemade ones.

Smilie
The OP posted a pic of the coupon and it is a 01.

I guess that depends on your definition of a sugar cookie. I think of sugar cookies are those round things with actual sugar on them. Mine are cut out cookies. Roll the dough, cut, bake. Yes, I frost them. Yes, they come out of the freezer absolutely perfect and you cannot tell the difference -- not with the cookie, not with the frosting.

Mine have never frozen into a solid block of ice. You can bit into the right from the freezer. The frosting is more frozen than the cookie. (I use real butter is probably why) They come up to room temp in just a few minutes too.

I lay them in a single layer on a cookie sheet and freeze. They don't take long - maybe 20 - 30 minutes. By the time I have filled all my cookie sheets the first couple are ready so I can keep rotating and working. Then I layer them in ice cream buckets, plastic containers, whatever. I do put wax paper between the layers but I have done it without and it isn't necessary.

My son wanted them for his grad party instead of cake. I am ashamed to admit that my son is a freak of nature and doesn't care much for cake. We think he was switched at birth. I did a shiny glaze on his so I didn't want to layer. I got new pizza boxes and used those.

Since I live where it is usually below freezing from Thanksgiving on, I normally put my cookies in the garage rather than hogging up freezer space.

Most cookies will freeze just fine and nearly all dough will. When I would make chocolate chip cookies I would often make a huge batch of dough then freeze part of it. Roll the little round dough balls, freeze on a cookie sheet, then store them in a container. Take out dough balls - go straight from freezer to oven.

Thx for all the tips...my 'sugar cookies' would be more of what you described with being cut out and frosted....that's what my mom's always called sugar cookies at least. I'd make whatever she always made laugh out loud

I got my recipe from my sister 25+ years ago. Then down the line, I lost the recipe card. Called her, got it again. Then a couple years later she called me all freaked out. She had lost the recipe --please tell her I had it. Yep, I did. That year for Christmas I cross stitched it and framed it for her.

I have one of those family sugar cookie recipes too (uses "oleo" and cream of tarter). I didn't know you could freeze them with frosting on them, that's good to know. nod I just wish I had more room in my freezer. Now matter how long I put off grocery shopping, and how much we eat from the freezer, it seems to stay full Dontknow That's not a bad thing, but I never have room to freeze anything.

That is the one upside to our lovely winters. You can freeze crap outside. Of course, the downside is you can't leave pop and stuff in the garage either.

All this cookie talk has got to talk. I am now craving nice, soft, fat cutout cookies with frosting.
