I remember how I got on here... 3 words: Free Thomas Trains
My store has been completely out of FiberOne bars that are on TPC for $2 for the last week or two...everytime I go in. They were on sale one week and I think people caught on and now there are 0 on the shelves. None. Every single variety wiped out. Started getting RC's today, wondered if they'd let me since it's a TPC now instead of a 'sale' price but I've just taken the dpci's up to CS and had no problem. I don't see them on sale for much less than $2.50 around here and I have a bunch of $1/2 q's to use up. Good for the diet
And thanks for noticing all the giving I do... sometimes I think it's all in vain. Good to be loved.
I've got to get my shitake mushrooms together and do some shopping this week!

I got three different Victorias Secret coupons in the mail today. Mama is gettin' new undies tomorrow
HTH
BTW - Husband's show on Sat. went great, well, what I can remember of it anyways
The phone fell out of the truck when we were unloading equipment. Now...how it got on the floor of the truck...not quite sure.
system restore - great advice. some viruses do erase all your previous restore points and don't let your machine hold one. if you try to restore and see that happening it's a sure sign you have a nasty trojan virus.
.... That thing was on my computer!!!
So I closed it all, I would know if it was taking over this lap top right? I have been getting page load errors and delay... oh no!
virus - you will not know if it is taking over the laptop. it's called a virus for a reason. it damages files progressively and makes things worse. if you got the message, and you haven't done anything to completely remove it, it is still there.
...
also, someone posted about printing from cell to hp over on deals. who was it? i can't remember, but it was one of you guys. i can already print msoffice/excel/pdfs from phone to hp printer using bluetooth.
but now i have to ask - what antivirus are they using that nearly every computer in the place is getting this? clearly not a good security program.
which brings me to all of you that are getting this. and this is going to sound like a bit of a lecture, and in part it is intended to be
1. there are several viruses that pretend to be windows antivirus programs. they give you a false virus warning when you are online, with error boxes that are designed to look a lot like the real thing. and it says it is starting a scan of your system. this sounds like one of those.
2. the thing you need to do immediately is close Internet Explorer right there and then. Do not hit okay on the warning box or anything like that because that's a trick that actually gets the virus to download.
3. If you have a good antivirus program and a good firewall program, it WILL detect the malicious program and stop it from running. by the very fact that page loaded on IE, you will already have a little bit of the malicious stuff. but the antivirus can detect those traces and quarantine those, too. and then you can delete them.
4. and now here comes the lecture - your computer is only as secure as your antivirus /firewall program. it's like the lock/alarm system on your house. protect yourself. invest in a good one. free antivirus programs -- however good -- will only go so far. reason? since they are free, the virus writers have access to them just as you do. and then can study the vulnerabilities and write to that. on the other hand, not many hackers/virus writers are willing to spend money to buy the virus programs and then spend time trying to exploit them. the free programs that you get with internet service are among the worst at protecting machines. majority of the infected home computers in the US are running one of those free mcafee, norton deals. and i speak from experience here. so, if you are infected, yes clean up the machine. but then, make it a priority to get a good antivirus/firewall program. no matter how tight finances are. make it a priority. because your computer holds all kinds of personal information including identity info, financial info, emotional info. not only can you lose a lot of financial info and lose touch with the world if your computer crashes/dies because of a virus, but you are putting your credit rating, your bank accounts, etc at great risk by letting viruses in.
5. make sure your programs are up to date. no software -- not even that on a mac -- is foolproof and invasion proof (and i have a mac and love it, and so say this without a windows bias. even apple has advised people to invest in antivirus programs). the programming community constantly discovers vulnerabilities in large programs. if they are honest people they report it to the software vendors. this is why apple puts out security updates to different programs all the time. for windows users, you want to make sure your java is always up to date. similarly you want to make sure windows programs are always up to date. windows has more holes than swiss cheese (and i've been a lifelong windows user so don't say this with an apple bias). and you always, always, always want to make sure your adobe programs are updated - both flash player and acrobat reader/acrobat pro. pdf's are major carriers of viruses these days. so stay updated. the simplest way i have found is to set the update checkers for all of those programs to auto check for updates but ask/notify before downloading. this way if there is something i don't want to download (windows sometimes has optional updates etc) i can pick and choose. but i don't need to put the checking/updating on my todo list.
6. and finally, for those of you that surf a lot, or have multiple use the computer and so there are all kinds of random sites being visited, go to sandboxie dot com and install that program. it is free. it allows you to run your browser and any other program within the sandbox. a sandbox is much like a real sandbox - it's a segregated area of your hard drive. everything runs within that box. so any malware that tries entering your computer is prevented from breaching the walls of that box and is contained within the sandbox. the rare few viruses have managed to breach the box., but as a general rule, the sandbox deletes itself if any virus traces are discovered. no program run within the box can make permanent changes to your system files. and best of all, all those junky ad cookies and tracking cookies that spy on your internet behavior and slow your machine down - well they are all in the sandbox. one click and you can empty the sandbox and poof, they are all gone. you can even set it to auto empty when you shut down.
7. recovery disk -- when you first get a new computer, create a recovery disk. what that does is create a disk of your computer in its factory state so if you lose everything you can start from scratch. this is very important, cos these days companies do not provide separate cds for every program installed on your machine. if you lose everything, you have to pay to get those disks. creating a recovery disk preserves the software infor and the license info.
8. backup, backup, backup. external hard drives have gotten significantly cheaper now. invest in 2 backup drives. backup your machine on drive 1. then create a secondary backup on drive 2. most drives come with backup software. schedule a weekly or twice a week backup schedule. after the first complete backup, it will be quick, cos the system will only look for changes. that way, in the event of a catastrophic data loss on your machine, you have two drives to go to and at most lose only a few days of stuff, rather than several years worth. if one external drive fails (happens sometimes, although new drives are much more reliable) you have a second backup.
9. when removing viruses, always start up machine in safe mode. safe mode allows the computer to run only the most basic programs. viruses generally can't run in safe mode. so they can't interfere with the antivirus and you can detect the malware easily during a scan. however, something to remember - with the free programs, many viruses know how to disable certain virus definitions within your antivirus program. so once the antivirus has been changed like that by the virus, it will not detect the virus even in safe mode. doesn't mean you don't have a virus on your machine. just means your security program has been corrupted by the virus.
we got a couple of really nasty viruses on a machine 2.5 years ago. some people advised that we just wipe out the machine. i refused. got free help from some great techs on a site that's sort of like the SD for cleaning up machines/dealing with problems. they're called aumha dot net, if anyone ever needs help.
anyways, thanks to the help there i got it all cleaned up. then i bought antivirus that came highly recommended to me by the head of IT operations at my workplace. we've been good since. one of these windows virus things attempted to enter my machine last month. quarantined and removed.
and the sandbox has made that process that much faster/more secure.
we use webroot internet security essentials, in case anyone is interested. it is excellent. the company that makes it is sophos - until they started offering webroot, they only offered antivirus/security for mega corporations and universities. they're good at it. and their customer service is excellent, excellent, excellent.
ok, lecture over.

And, is it wrong to drool over this?

I have an older stainless steel cookware set I bought 15 years ago. Last year, I bought a Calphalon set at Target (at least it was 75% off). Finish is chipping off the stockpot, the only piece I use. And I always hand wash it and dry it immediately.
I just need about 50k and I'll be happy
If I win the lottery, I'll buy you all iPads
eta: I can't be the only person that thinks about what they would do if they won a jackpot, right? Or is that only what you think about when you have no money? lol
